Fase Perkembangan
• Tahap perkembangan manusia memiliki fase yang cukup
panjang.
• Any child who deviates significantly from other children, on some dimension (e.g.
intelligence hearing, vision, behavior) resulting in an in-ability to profit maximally from
the general educational program without some special adaptation in what is presented
or how it is presented, is considered an exceptional child.
• Exceptional children’s characteristics include ways of mentally processing information,
ways to sense or perceive information, ways of or problems with communicating orally
or in writing, ways of interacting with society, neuro-motor or physical challenges, long-
term emotional problems, or combination of multiple problems & challenges.
• RESULTS OF CHARACTERISTICS
• Intellectual Functioning:
IQ score is below 70-75 on an individually administered intelligence test
• Adaptive Behavior:
The effectiveness or degree with which the individual meets the standard of
personal independence and social responsibility expected for age and cultural
group
• Developmental period:
Impairment in intelligence and adaptive behavior must be manifested during
developmental period (sometime between conception and adulthood/18 years
old)
Ciri-ciri dari Mental Retardation
• Keterlambatan pada perkembangan bahasa
• Kemampuan fisik yang immature
• Siswa mengalami kesulitan untuk memahami suatu
perintah
• Siswa sulit untuk memahami lingkungannya.
• Kemampuan sosial terhambat
• Siswa tampak lebih lambat dari siswa sebayanya.
• Siswa memiliki ciri-ciri fisik anak mental retarded
yang khas (misalnya: tipe muka mongoloid)
MENTAL RETARDATION

Gifted and talented children are those identified by
professionally qualified persons who by virtue of
outstanding abilities are capable of high performance.
Those are children who require differentiated educational
programs and services beyond those normally provided
by the regular school program in order to realize their
contribution to self and society.
