Once upon a time, an Ant was walking along a path made by his friends. That is what

was and said out loud, "I'm thirsty!"
A Dove in a tree nearby had been watching the long line of ants. She had been

of fruit that had fallen from a tree then back to their home again without stopping. Yet, the one
Ant suddenly stopped and was talking to itself. This attracted the dove's attention.
"I'm thirsty!" the Dove heard the Ant say.
"Why not get a drink from the stream?" said the Dove. "It will only take you a few
minutes. Just be careful not to fall in." The Dove went back to looking at the rest of the ants and
relaxing on the branch. The Ant listened and left to go to the small stream for a drink.
A few seconds later, the Dove hear yelling. "Help," said the ant. "I'm drowning. The
Ant had gone for a drink as the Dove suggested and had fallen into the stream.
The Dove knew she had to help the Ant. After all, she was the one who had suggested
that he visit the stream. She used her beak to pluck a leaf from the tree and flew to the stream.
She dropped the leaf beside the ant. The Ant climbed onto the leaf and used it like a raft to float
to safety. "Thank you, friend," said the little Ant.
Not very long after, the Ant saw a hunter. He was using a trap to catch birds. The Ant
watched as the ant was flying right towards the Hunter and his trap. Now it was the Ant's turn to
try and save the Dove.

How Does Hail Form?
Hail is precipitation in the form of large bails or lumps of ice. Hailstones begin as small
ice particles that enlarge primarily by accretion. To enlarge, they require abundant water droplets.
As a hailstone moves up and own through a storm, it collides with water droplets, growing larger
with each collision. Hailstones can be as large as oranges and grapefruits.
When a hailstone is cut in half, you can see rings of ice. Some rings are milky white,
others are clear. This ringed structure suggests that a hailstone can grow by two different
processes, wet growth and dry growth.
In wet growth, the hailstone is in region of the storm where the air temperature is below
freezing, but not super cold. When a hailstone collides with a drop of water, the water water does
not freeze on the ice immediately. Instead, the liquid water spreads over the hailstone and slowly
freezes. Because water freezes slowly, air bubbles can escape, resulting in a layer of clear ice.
Dry growth of hailstone occurs when the air temperature is well below freezing. In these
conditions a water droplets freezes immediately as it collides with a hailstone. This quick
freezing leads to air bubbles frozen in place, leaving cloudy ice. (from: ssec.wisc.edu)

Faster planes and cheaper flight are making it easier than ever before for people to travel. In
most developed societies, visiting exotic places is a sought-after status symbol. The tourism
industries of both developed and developing countries have recognized this fact and are learning
to take advantage of it.
There are, however, some problems associated with this new industry. Firstly, there is the
increasing crime rate. Some locals see tourists as an easy prey because, not only are they in
unfamiliar territory and therefore less able to take care of themselves, but also they carry visible
items of wealth, such as cameras and jewelry which can be disposed of quickly for profit.
Another major problem is health. With greater mobility comes greater danger of spreading
contagious disease around the world. One carrier returning home could easily start an epidemic
before their illness was diagnosed. Moreover, the emergence of many disease which resist
antibiotics is causing scientists to be increasingly concerned about this issue.
Also to be considered is the natural environment, which can be seriously threatened by too
many visitors. Australias Great Barrier Reef, for example, is in danger of being destroyed by
tourists and there are plans to restrict visitors to some of the more delicate coral cays.
These are just three of the reasons why any country should be wary of committing itself to
an extensive tourism development program.
44. Why does the natural environment become one of the serious problem associated with the faster
planes and cheaper flight? Because
A. It easily started an epidemic before their illness was diagnosed
B. It can be destroyed by too many visitors
C. The health problem will increase
D. They carry visible items of wealth
E. It can increase crime rate
45. Why is the crime rate increasing due to the new industry?
A. Some tourist carry visible items of wealth
B. The tourists are spreading contagious disease
C. The government is planning to restrict visitors to some coral cays
D. The new industry makes the number of unemployment increase
E. The tourists come by plane
46. One carrier returning home could easily start an epidemic before their illness was diagnosed.

C. Identified

In a big city has both advantages and disadvantages On the plus side, it is often easier to
find work, and there is usually a choice of public transport, so you dont need to own a car. Also,
there are a lot of interesting to do and places to see. For example, you can eat in good restaurants,
visit the museums, and go to the theater and to concerts. What is more, when you want to relax,
you can usually find a park where you can feed the ducks or just sit on a park bench and read a
book. All in all, city life is full of bustle and variety and you need never feel bored.
However, for every plus there is a minus. For one thing, you might have a job, but unless it
is very well paid, you will not be able to afford many of the things that there are to do, because
living in a big city is often very expensive.
It is particularly difficult to find good, cheap accommodation. What is more, public transport
is sometimes crowded and dirty, particularly in the rush hour, and even the parks can become
very crowded, especially on Sundays when it seems that every city dweller is looking for some
open space and green grass. Last of all, despite all the crowds, it is still possible to feel very
lonely in a city.
In conclusion, I think that city life can be particularly appealing to young people, who like
the excitement of the city and dont mind the noise and pollution. However, many people, when
they get older, and particularly when they have young children, often prefer the peace and fresh
air of the countryside.

A. A choice of public transport
B. Living without having a car
C. A lot of interesting things to do
D. A side effect of living in a big city
E. Advantages of living in a big city
48. What is the advantage of living in a big city?
A. It is often easy to find work
B. It is not expensive to fulfill daily needs
C. There are not any interesting things to do
D. It is not difficult to find good accommodation
E. There are not noise and pollution affecting peoples life
49. In conclusion, I think that city life can be particularly appealing to young people, who like the
excitement of the city and dont mind the noise and pollution. (Paragraph 6)
The underlined word means
