Santi : So, what about you, Bayu? Do you have any plans?
Bayu : Definitely! My dad and I are going to go fishing. We plan to go fishing
in a lake near my uncle’s house. Would you like to come with us?
Santi : I don’t really like fishing. I would rather stay at home than go fishing.
What about you, Riri? What would you like to do on the long weekend?
Riri : I have made a plan with my mother about what to do on this long
weekend. We are going to practice baking cookies.
Bayu : Are you going to bake choco chips cookies like the other day?
Riri : Well, yes. That is my favorite. But we are going to try to make ginger
cookies too.
Riri : Oh, would you like to join me to learn baking cookies? You can come
to my house.
Bayu : It’s a good idea! Or will you go fishing with me and my dad?
Santi : Uhm, not fishing I guess. But I think I would like to bake cookies with
Riri. Thanks for asking me to join you Riri.

1. Be Going To vs Will
Nah di bahasa Inggris, ada dua cara untuk ngomongin “akan”, yaitu: “will” dan “be going
to”. Penggunaan keduanya ada yang sama dan berbeda.

A. You can use both “will” and “be going to”:

Untuk membicarakan prediksi di masa depan. Contoh: “He will succeed” dan “He is
going to succeed”.

B. You only use “be going to”

Kita hanya boleh menggunakan “be going to” untuk aksi yang sudah direncanakan
sebelumnya.

Contoh: “I bought some wood because I am going to build a bookcase.” [Gue tadi beli

hanya boleh pakai “be going to”, tidak boleh“will”.

C. You only use “will”

Contoh: A: “This bag is too heavy.” B: “I will help you.”
[A: Tas ini terlalu berat.
spontan, tanpa direncanakan terlebih dahulu.

2. Would Like
A. Arti Kata Would Like
Secara harfiah arti dari kata would like adalah, “akan telah suka” namun arti sebenarnya
dari kata would like adalah “want” (ingin) akan tetapi feel dari would like ini lebih terasa
sopan.

Contoh:
Would you like a cup of tea? Apakah kamu ingin secangkir teh?
She would like a peace of cake. Dia ingin sepotong kue

B. Penggunaan Would Like

Kita telah tau kalau arti kata would like sama dengan want, namun perbedaannya terletak
pada kesopanan, jika kita menggunakan would like maka nuansanya akan terasa sangat
sopan. Kata would like ini biasanya digunakan untuk menawarkan sesuatu dengan sopan.

Contoh:
Would you like playing game with me? Mau kah kamu bermain game denganku
Would you like a glass of cola? Apa kah kamu ingin segelas cola

C. Cara Menggunakan Would Like

Setelah would like kita harus menggunakan object atau gerund, atau infinitive, jadi
rumusnya subject + would like + object/gerund/infinitive. Untuk membuatnya menjadi
negatif tinggal tambahkan not setelah would.

Contoh:

He would like a new job (object/noun). Dia ingin pekerjaan baru

She would not like living there (gerund). Dia tidak ingin tinggal di sana
Would you like to go out tonight? (infinitive).

menjadi subject pronoun + ‘d like, untuk negativenya would not disingkat menjadi
wouldn’t.

Contoh:
I’d like a cup of coffee. Saya ingin secangkir kopi
He wouldn’t like playing game with me. Dia ingin bermain game denganku
They’d like to eat Japanese food. Mereka ingin makan masakan Jepang
