Rangkuman - Wishes, Hopes, and Congratulations

Wish

Wish is used to express hope for someone success or good fortune. (Wish
digunakan untuk mengungkapkan harapan atas kesuksesan atau nasib baik
seseorang.)

● Wish berarti keinginan. Wish juga bisa digunakan untuk mengungkapkan


harapan yang bertentangan dengan keadaan saat ini atau untuk
mengekspresikan keinginan yang mustahil untuk terjadi.
Contoh:
1. I wish I were a bird (Aku harap aku seekor burung.)
Kenyataannya: saya bukan burung dan mustahil saya berubah
menjadi burung.
2. I wish I could go to Saturn. (Aku harap bisa pergi ke Saturnus)
Kenyataannya: Saya tidak dapat pergi ke Saturnus, bahkan belum ada
astronot yang pergi sejauh itu.
3. I wish I didn’t do badly on my last exam. (Andai aku mengerjakan
dengan baik tesku yang terakhir)
Kenyataannya: Saya tidak dapat mengerjakan tes terakhir dengan
baik.

● Wish juga dapat digunakan sebagai bentuk “doa”.

2. Wish you a happy birthday. (Selamat ulang tahun)
3. Wish you all the best. (Harapan terbaik untukmu)
4. Wish me luck. (Semoga aku sukses)
5. Wish you a happy marriage (Semoga pernikahanmu bahagia)

Contoh:

Contoh:

pernikahan yang awet.)
● We wish you a good career. (Kami mendoakan karir yang bagus

3. Wish + modals
Contoh:
● I wish I could fly. (Andai aku bisa terbang.)
● I wish my mother would buy me a Ferrari. (Andai Ibuku mau
membelikanku mobil Ferrari.)
● I wish I could talk to the Moon. (Andai aku bisa berbicara
dengan bulan.)

Hope

Hope is used to express our feeling of expectation and desire for a certain
thing to happen. (Hope digunakan untuk mengekspresikan keinginan atau harapan
kita untuk sesuatu yang kita harapkan terjadi.)
Hope (verb) berarti berharap, mengharapkan dan hope (noun) berarti
harapan. Jika kita berharap memiliki mobil sport dan rumah mewah, kita dapat
menggunakan hope maupun wish. Hope dan wish bisa digunakan untuk
mengungkapkan harapan, tidak ada perbedaan yang begitu signifikan antara hope
dan wish. Namun jika ingin mengungkapkan harapan yang mustahil terjadi atau
bertentangan dengan kondisi saat ini, gunakan wish, bukan hope.
Contoh:
● Aku harap punya rumah besar dengan pemandangan laut.
I hope I have a big house with a sea-view. (Aku harap punya rumah
besar dengan pemandangan laut.) ✅

I wish I have a big house with a sea-view.
I wish I had a big house with a sea-view.✅

● EXPRESSIONS OF HOPES

● I hope you get good marks on Maths. (Aku harap kau
mendapatkan nilai matematika yang bagus.)
● I hope we pass the exams. (Semoga kita lulus ujian.)
● I hope you get home safely. (Semoga kau sampai rumah dengan
selamat.)
● I hope she will get better soon. (Semoga kau cepat sembuh.)

2. Hope + that + clause


● I hope that my sister will always be fine. (Semoga adikmu
selalu sehat.)
● I hope that tomorrow will rain. (Semoga besok hujan.)
● I hope that my brother doesn’t bother me anymore. (Aku harap
adikku tidak menggangguku lagi.)

3. Hope + to infinitive
● I hope to meet you today. (Aku harap bisa bertemu kau hari ini.)

● I hope to be the best basketball player. (Aku harap bisa menjadi
pemain basket terbaik.)
● I hope to be the next president. (Aku harap bisa menjadi
presiden berikutnya.)

Congratulations is used to congratulate someone on something nice that has


happened to them or something good that they have done. (Congratulations
digunakan untuk memberi selamat kepada seseorang atas sesuatu yang baik yang
telah terjadi pada mereka atau sesuatu yang baik yang telah mereka lakukan.
