 Kegunaan Mangrove

Mangrove mempunyai berbagai fungsi

1. Fungsi fisiknya yaitu untuk menjaga kondisi pantai agar tetap stabil, melindungi tebing pantai
dan tebing 3 sungai, mencegah terjadinya abrasi dan intrusi air laut, serta sebagai perangkap
zat pencemar
2. Fungsi biologis mangrove adalah sebagai habitat benih ikan, udang, dan kepiting untuk hidup
dan mencari makan, sebagai sumber keanekaragaman biota akuatik dan nonakuatik seperti
burung, ular, kera, kelelawar, dan tanaman anggrek, serta sumber plasma nutfah.
3. Fungsi ekonomis mangrove yaitu sebagai sumber bahan bakar (kayu, arang), bahan bangunan
(balok, papan), serta bahan tekstil, makanan, dan obat-obatan. Hutan mangrove sebagai suatu
ekosistem di daerah pasang surut, kehadirannya sangat berpengaruh terhadap ekosistem-
ekosistem lain di daerah tersebut

 KOMPOSISI BIOTA MANGROVE

Berbagai avertebrata menggantungkan hidupnya pada produktivitas mangrove baik secara

langsung maupun tidak langsung. Avertebrata yang paling melimpah dan menyolok adalah
crustasea dan mollusca. Mollusca diwakili oleh sejumlah siput, suatu kelompok yang umumnya
hidup pada akar dan batang pohon bakau dan lainnya pada lumpur di dasar akar mencakup
sejumlah pemakan detritus. Habitat gastropoda di hutan mangrove terbagi menjadi 3 yaitu di
pohon mangrove, di atas permukaan lumpur, dan di dalam sedimen. Gastropoda yang hidup di
pohon mangrove terbagi lagi menjadi gastropoda yang hidup pada akar, batang dan daun
mangrove dan yang hidup pada kayu yang sudah mati.
Penyebaran fauna penghuni hutan mangrove memperlihatkan dua
cara yaitu penyebaran secara vertikal dan secara horizontal.
Penyebaran secara vertikal umumnya dilakukan oleh jenis fauna
yang hidupnya menempel atau melekat pada akar, cabang,
maupun batang pohon mangrove. Sedangkan penyebaran secara
horizontal biasanya ditemukan pada jenis fauna yang hidup pada
substrat, baik itu yang tergolong infauna, yaitu fauna yang hidup
pada lubang ataupun dalam substrat, maupun yang tergolong
epifauna yaitu fauna yang hidup bebas di atas substrat.
