 KONSEP MODULASI SSB

Modulasi merupakan percampuran antara frekuensi radio dengan frekuensi audio,

percampuran dua frekuensi akan terjadi sebuah proses penjumlahan kedua
frekuensi dan pengurangan dari kedua frekuensi Amplitudo modulasi merupakan
metode modulasi di mana amplitudo gelombang carrier (pembawa) dibuat
bervariasi menurut harga sesaat dari sinyal pemodulasi (informasi). Modulasi
Single Sideband adalah salahstu jenis modulasi ampltudo dimana spectrum
frekuensi yang dipancarkan hanya salah satu dari spectrum frekuensi AM yaitu
frekuensi LSB (Lower Sideband) atau frekuensi USB (Upper Sideband).

(suppressed) dari satu modulasi AM standar
dengan menggunakan satu modulator yang
disebut sebagai balanced modulator seperti
ditunjukkan rangkaiannya pada Gbr-2.
Sedang Gbr-1 menunjukkan osilogram
sinyal SSB terhadap sinyal AM standarnya.
Nampak tersebut bahwa, sinyal SSB mirip
dengan sinyal sistem modulasi FM, tetapi
dengan amplitudo yang juga berubah sesuai
nilai puncak sinyal pemodulasinya.
 KEUNTUNGAN TRANSMISI SSB

1. Cukup mengirimkan salah satu band-nya saja untuk mengirimkan informasi dari
sinyal pemodulasi, sehingga terjadi penghematan jalur frekuensi.

2. Menghemat Daya. terutama jika m=0, maka tidak ada daya disipasi, dan apabila
m=1 disipasi daya adalah 1/6.

3. Sinyal SSB memiliki NOISE yang lebih rendah daripada sinyal AM biasa.

4. Transmisi SSB tidak mengalami fading. tidak sebesar dalam sistem AM. Karena
dalam sistem SSB tidak ada frekuensi carrier dan bandwith lebih sempit.

5. Penghematan bandwidth.
KERUGIAN YANG DIDAPAT DARI PENGGUNAAN SSB ADALAH:

1. Harga penerima SSB lebih mahal daripada penerima DSB.

2. Peralatannya lebih rumit.

3. Penerima SSB memerlukan beberapa pengatur frekuensi yang tepat

untuk memperkecil distorsi.
4. Penerima-penerimakompleks, sistem-sistem single sideband
membutuhkan penerima-penerimalebihkompleksdanmahaldaripada
transmisi AM konvensional.
5. Kesulitan -kesulitan tuning, penerima-penerima single sideband
membutuhkan tuning lebihkompleksdanpresisidaripadapenerima AM
konvensional.
 CARA MENGHILANGKAN SIDEBAND
Terdapat tiga metoda seperti disebutkan di depan, yang akan dibahas berikut ini.
1.Metode filter
Metoda Filter ini adalah cara yang paling sederhana, yaitu dengan
melewatkan si-nyal SSB melalui filter yang memadai dengan redaman
yang cukup besar. Jenis filter dapat berbentuk filter LC, kristal, atau jenis
filter mekanik yang bergantung pada frekuensi carrier dan syarat-syarat
yang lain. Diagram Metoda Filter ini ditun-jukkan pada Gambar

FasaSistem kedua ini menghindari kekurangan yang terjadi pada sistem pertama,
yaitu pada kesulitan merancang filter praktis yang mempunyai karakteristik ideal
atau yang diharapkan. Metoda yang digunakan adalah, dengan menggunakan dua
rang-kaian balanced modulator dan dua rangkaian penggeser fasa
Metoda Ketiga (‘Third’ Method)

pada Gbr-6 tersebut, bahwa bagian
belakang sistem ini identik dengan
metoda perge-seran- fasa, tetapi cara
pengolahan sinyal yang menjadi
inputan ke dua balance mo-dulator
Konsep modulasi Single sideband full carrier
Merupakan suatu bentuk modulasi amplitudo dimana signal
pembawa ditransmisikan pada daya penuh (full), tapi hanya satu
sideband yang ditransmisikan. Karena itu transmisi SSBFC
hanya membutuhkan setengah dari besar bandwidth AM
double- sideband konvensional.

Konsep Modulasi Single Sideband Suppressed Carrier
AM Single Sideband Suppressed Carrier (SSBSC) adalah suatu bentuk
modulasi amplitudo dimana signal pembawa ditekan secara total dan
satu sideband dibuang. Karena itu SSBSC membutuhkan setengah dari
sebesar bandwidth AM double sideband konvensional dan daya
transmisi sangat kecil.
