unit 5‐karbon yang memiliki struktur kimia seperti molekul isopren
(hasil pirolisis karet alam).
Terpenoid diklasifikasikan berdasarkan jumlah unit C5 (isopren)
yang berkondensasi secara head to tail (kepala–ekor) atau tail to
tail (ekor‐ekor).

Unit isopren secara kimia diidentifikasi sebagai senyawa turunan

ester diposfat yaitu senyawa dimetil alil diposfat (DMAPP) dan
isopentenil diposfat (IPP).
