IKATAN TERAPIS WICARA INDONESIA
(IKATWI)
Ikatan Terapis Wicara Indonesia (IKATWI)
merupakan satu-satunya organisasi profesi yang
menaungi terapis wicara di Indonesia memiliki sejarah
perkembangan sejalan dengan perjalanan profesi terapi
wicara di Indonesia.

Sejarah singkat IKATWI…

IKATWI
Profesi Terapi Wicara pertama kali diperkenalkan di
Indonesia sekitar tahun 1971 dengan diselenggarakannya
Kursus Speech Corection A dan B (masing-masing 6 bulan).
Pada tahun 1973 kursus ini ditingkatkan menjadi program
pendidikan 3 tahun.

Sebagai sebuah profesi kesehatan, terapi wicara dituntut

untuk memiliki organisasi profesi yang mewadahi tenaga
terapis wicara di Indonesia. Cikal bakal berdirinya
IKATWI dimulai dengan terbentuknya Ikatan Bina Wicara
Indonesia (IKABWI) pada tahun 1975.
IKATWI
IKABWI masih berbentuk organisasi nonformal dan “Pada
tahun 1993 IKABWI berubah nama sekaligus berubah
kepengurusan menjadi IKATWI.

Akhirnya IKATWI baru menjadi organisasi formal setelah pada tahun

2001 memiliki AD/ART yang disyahkan melalui MUNAS I IKATWI di
Jakarta. Dan mulai saat itulah dilakukan pendataan dan registrasi
anggota sesuai dengan aturan yang tertuang di AD/ART IKATWI. Dan
baru saat itu, terapi wicara yang telah menjadi anggota IKATWI resmi
memiliki Nomor Anggota yang tercantum dalam kartu anggotanya.
