 Logam
Logam adalah material yang mempunyai daya hantar listrik yang tinggi dengan mempunyai sifat
konduktor yang baik dan tahan terhadap temperatur tinggi, mempunyai titik didih tinggi, keras,
mengkilap, tidak tembus cahaya, dan dapat dideformasi sehingga banyak digunakan pada banyak
konstruksi. Jenis Logam juga menjadi 2 jenis yaitu logam ferro dan non ferro.

1. Logam Ferro (Besi)

Logam ferro adalah suatu logam paduan yang terdiri dari paduan unsur karbon dan besi. Untuk
menghasilkan suatu logam paduan yang mempunyai sifat yang berbeda dengan besi dan karbon
maka dicampur dengan bermacam logam lainnya. Jenis-Jenis logam ferro adalah sebagai berikut.

A) Besi Tuang, dengan Komposisi yaitu campuran besi dan karbon. Digunakan untuk membuat alat
mesin meja perata, badan ragum, bagian-bagian mesin bubut dan blok silinder.

B) Besi Tempa, Komposisi besi tempa terdiri dari 99% besi murni. Digunakan untuk membuat
rantai jangkar, kait keran, dan landasan kerja pelat.

C) Baja Lunak, Komposisi campuran besi dan karbon dengan kadar 0,1% - 3%. Digunakan untuk
membuat mur, sekrup, pipa dan keperluan Pembangunan.

D) Baja Karbon Tinggi, Komposisi campuran besi dan karbon dengan kadar 0,7 – 1,5%.
2. Logam NonFerro
Logam Nonferro yaitu logam yang tidak mengandung unsur besi (Fe). Logam nonferro, antara
lain sebagai berikut.

A) Tembaga (Cu), Warna coklat kemerah-merahan, sifatnya dapat ditempa, liat, baik untuk
penghantar panas, listrik, dan kukuh. Tembaga digunakan untuk membuat suku cadang bagian
listrik, radio penerangan, dan alat-alat dekorasi.

B) Alumunium (Al), Warna biru putih. Sifatnya dapat ditempa, liat, bobot ringan, penghantar
panas dan listrik yang baik mampu dituang. Alumunium digunakan untuk membuat
peralatan masak, elektronik, industri mobil, dan industri pesawat terbang.

C) Timbel (Pb), Warna biru kelabu, sifatny dapat ditempa, sangat liat, tahan korosi, air asam,
dan bobot sangat berat. Timbel digunakan sebagai bahan pembuat kabel, baterai,bubungan
atap, dan bahan pengisi.

D) Timah (Sn), Warna bening keperak-perakan, sifatnya dapat ditempa, liat, dan tahan korosi.
Timh digunakan sebagai pelapis bahan lembaran baja lunak (pelat timah) dan industri
pengawetan
 Keramik
Keramik merupakan campuran antara unsur logam dan nonlogam, kebanyakan dalam
bentuk oksida, nitrida dan karbida. Material yang termasuk dalam kelompok ini tersusun
atas clay, semen dan gelas. Material ini bersifat insulator terhadap listrik dan panas dan
lebih tahan pada temperatur tinggi dan lingkungan yang berat daripada logam dan polymer.
Sifat mekanik material ini keras namun getas.

Pada Prinsipnya keramik terbagi atas 3 jenis, yaitu:

1. Keramik Tradisional
2. Keramik Halus (Modern)
3. Keramik Konstruksi

1.) Keramik Tradisional

Keramik tradisional yaitu keramik yang dibuat dengan menggunakan bahan
alam, seperti kuarsa, kaolin, tanah liat dan lain sebagainya. Yang termasuk
keramik adalah barang pecah belah (dinnerware), keperluan rumah tangga
(tile, bricks), dan untuk industri (refractory).
2.) Keramik Halus (Modern)
Keramik halus adalah keramik yang dibuat dengan menggunakan oksida-oksida atau
logam seperti oksida logam Al2O3, ZrO2, MgO, dan lain-lain. Keramik halus disebut juga
dengan Fine Ceramics yakni keramik modern atau biasa disebut dengan keramik teknik,
keramik ini juga sering dibuat dengan menggunakan teknologi mesin.

3.) Keramik Konstruksi

Klasifikasi produk keramik konstruksi merupakan keramik tradisional yang digunakan
dalam konstruksi yang didasarkan pada lingkup seperti elemen untuk lantai, dinding, atap
(bata), alat angkut cairan dan pembuangan (pipa periuk), peralatan sanitasi (kesehatan),
lantai dan dinding (ubin).
