I.RANGKUMAN MATERI
Letter adalah text functional yang merupakan materi SKL no.12
Letter adalah text yang berupa surat, lengkap dengan addressee/penerima, addresser/pengirim,
pembukaan surat, isi surat, penutup surat.
Ada bermacam-macam surat, ada surat yang bersifat pribadi ada yang bersifat resmi. Biasanya, surat
resmi dilengkapi dengan kepala surat (kop surat) yang menunjukkan pengirim surat lengkap dengan
alamat kantor/perusahaan. 
Kinds of letters:
-    Private/personal letter   : surat pribadi
-    Formal letter                       : surat resmi
Part of the letter:
-  Address of the writer ( alamat penulis ketika menulis surat)
-  Date of writing the latter ( tanggal penulisan surat)
-  Addressee (yang dikirimi surat)
-  Salutation
-  Opening ( pembukaan surat)
-  Content of the letter ( isi surat)
-  Closing (penutup)
- Addresser/writer ( pengirim/penulis surat )
Isi (content) surat juga berbeda-beda, sesuai dengan maksud penulis menulis surat tersebut.
Function  of the Letter based on its content:
- Permission Letter                               : surat ijin
- Invitation letter                                  : surat undangan
- Asking/giving information                 : surat yang berisi meminta /memberi informasi
- Telling experience                             : menceritakan pengalaman
- Asking/giving advice                         : meminta/memberi nasehat
- Asking/giving/offering help               : meminta/memberi/menawarkan bantuan.
- Asking for apology                            : meminta maaf
- Expressing gratitude                          : Ungkapan terima kasih
- Expressing sympathy                         : Ungkapan rasa simpatik
- Expressing praise                               : mengungkapkan rasa menghargai
- Expressing complaint                                    : mengungkapkan rasa protes
- Expressing satisfied                           : mengungkapkan rasa puas
- Expressing disappointment                : mengungkapkan rasa kekecewaan
- Expressing proud                               : mengungkapkan rasa bangga
- Expressing embarrassing/ashamed     : rasa malu
- Expressing frightened/fear                 : rasa ketakutan
- Expressing surprised                          : rasa heran
- Expressing amazement/admiration/exclamation: rasa kagum.
- Expressing worried                            : rasa khawatir
- Expressing annoyed                          : rasa jengkel

- Expressing glad/pleasure                   : rasa bahagia
- Expressing sadness                            : rasa sedih
- Ordering/offering something             : memesan/menawarkan sesuatu.

  * ingat : Tanggal penulisan surat ada di bagian kiri/kanan atas surat.
  * Kata “tomorrow” didalam surat berarti satu hari setelah tanggal surat. 
  *  Kata “ yesterday” di dalam surat bearati satu hari sebelum tanggal penulisan surat. Demikian
juga
      kata lain yang berhubungan dengan waktu, seperti “two weeks ago’, “two weeks later” dan
sebagainya
     supaya dicermati dan dihitung dari tanggal penulisan surat.
E.Reference: Menanyakan kata ganti.

   Ingat: Kata “here” kembali ke tempat penulis menulis surat, sedang kata “there” kembali ke tempat

I am very sorry for this late reply. I have just returned from my hometown. I was on a holiday, but I
did not really enjoy my stay there. Things were not the same as they used to be.
When I was a child, I used to swim and go fishing with my brother and my friends in the river near
my house. I liked the river because the water was clear and there were a lot of fish in it.
Now, the river is full of garbage and the water is turbid. The fish are gone and the area around the
river is dirty. There are no children swimming and fishing in the river because the water is ominous. The
chemical waste from the factories makes it poisonous.
The condition of the river really makes me sad. What about your hometown? Do you have the same

            Thank you for second letter. It is interesting to read about the farming tools used by farmers in our
village.
            Unlike the farmers in our village, most farmers in our country use machines to help the work. The
machines are very useful since most farms are very big. They use tractors to plow the land. Another
machine is a seed drill, it makes holes in the ground, then it drops seed into them. It may even drop a
small amount of fertilizer with each seed. Farmers with large farms sometimes use planes to plant seed.
 They also use planes to spray chemical onto the rice fields. When harvest time comes they also use a
machine called a combine to cut the rice. It also separates the rice kernels from the stalks. You know that
the combine can harvest more grain than 200 people working by land.
            Well, that’s all for this time. I am looking forward to receiving another letter from you.

How's everything? I'm having a great time. I'm in Malang for a holiday now.  II have been in  tthis
town for a week.
Yesterday my aunty, Latifah, took me to Jawa Timur Park in Batu. It was amazing. The park
provided a lot of things to enjoy, such as; a bird park, a flower park, a children park, and "Gallery
Belajar". The last was so interesting. Some scientific exhibitons could be found here. Visitors could try
them. I think you would be curious to do it if you were there.
The other day we went to "Coban Rondo". It was a fresh and cool waterfall on the slope of
mountain. We should pass a small path along the jungle to come to the place. I enjoyed it very much.
On the  last day we went to "Ngliyep". It was a quiet beach. The most interesting to do on the beach
was playing with the sand. Tito and Mirna, my cousins, built castle with the sand. I joined them. We were
happy when the waves came. They swept the castle we made.
