Simple Present Tense

Dalam kalimat Simple present tense dibagi menjadi dua yaitu kalimat verbal dan kalimat nominal. Untuk
membedakannya kita biasanya melihat dari bentuk kata kerja (verb) yang ddigunakan. lebih jelasnya,
berikut ini pembahasannya,

A. Kalimat Verbal
Bentuk kalimat verbal dalam Simple Present Tense adalah sebagai berikut, 

(+)    S + V 1
(-)     S + do/ does not + V 1
(?)     Do/ does + S + V 1

  *s/es khusus ditambahkan untuk penggunaan subyek orang ketiga tunggal (  He, She,atau  It)  

Contoh :

1. She gets up at 5 o'clock in the morning. (Subject She; sehingga kata kerja ditambahkan s/es)

2. I  usually help my mother after school. (subject I; sehingga kata kerja tidak ditambahkan s/es)
3. The students get a lot of homework every weekend. (Subject the students (jamak); sehingga kata
kerja tidak ditambahkan s/es)
4. Water doesn't flow from the lower places into the higher palces. (Subject Water; kata bantu
untuk membuat kalimat negatif menggunakan kata does bukan do)

B. Kalimat Nominal
Apabila predikat dalam kalimat berupa kata selain kata kerja, yaitu kata sifat ( adjective), kata benda
( Noun), dan kata keterangan ( adverb), maka harus menggunakan To BE ( Is, am, are) sebagai kata kerja
bantunya.

(-)     S + (is/ am/ are)  not + Complement
(?)     (Is/ am/ are) + S + Complement
Penggunaan Subjek:
He, She, It     ; is
I                    ; am
They, We      ; are

Contoh:
1. Shinta is sad.
2. Bima is a student.
3. He is never at school.
4. They are a team.

Berikut ini beberapa contoh dari Complement;

 Noun : a teacher, a doctor, a pilot, a mechanic, dsb.

 Adjective : tired, busy, lazy, happy, dsb.
 Adverbial of place : here, there, at home, in class, dsb.

Penggunaan Simple Present Tense

Adapun penggunaan dari Simpe Present Tense adalah sebagai berikut;
1. Menyatakan suatu kebiasaan yang dilakukan
   Contoh:
1.    Indra always goes to the office every day
2.    We usually watch TV at night.
3.    They play football on Saturday.
4.    He often plays chess at noon.

2. Menyatakan kebenaran umum

   Contoh:
1.    The sun rises in the east and sets in the west
2.    The earth revolves around the sun.

3. Menyatakan peristiwa saat ini

   Contoh :
1.    Dinda dances beautifully
2.    The dogs bark loudly.
3.    She works hard at her office.
4.    He looks tired today.

Penggunaan adverbial time ( keterangan waktu), adverbial of place ( keterangan tempat), dan juga
adverbial of frequency ( keterangan frekuensi) sering digunakan  dalam Simple Present Tense.
1. Always  --- selalu
2. Usually  --- biasanya
3. Often  --- sering
4. Sometimes --- kadang- kadang
5. Seldom  --- jarang

6. Never  --- tidak pernah

7. At night  --- pada waktu malam
8. On Sunday --- pada hari minggu
9. Twice a week --- dua kali seminggu
10. Every week --- setiap minggu
11. Every day --- setiap hari
12. Here, there --- disini, disana, dsb.

 ***Adverbial of place selalu diletakkan terlebih dahulu sebelum adverbial of time. 

Untuk penambahan bentuk kata kerja ( verbs) dengan subyek orang ketiga tunggal, maka bisa
digunakan pedoman sebagai berikut ini;
Kata kerja ( verb ) yang berakhir dengan :
 ss, sh, ch, x , dan o , maka kata kerja (verb) hanya ditambah es, dan selainnya itu hanya ditambah
dengan s saja.

Contoh :
I kiss my baby            
She kisses her baby.
We watch television      
Chandra watches television
 We go to school         
Bernard goes to school.

Kata kerja ( verb) yang berakhir dengan y yang sebelumnya konsonan ( huruf mati) diubah menjadi i dan
selanjutnya ditambah dengan es.

         Contoh:
         I carry a bag    
          She carries a bag

Kata kerja ( verb) yang berakhir dengan y tetapi sebelumnya adalah huruf vokal ( huruf hidup),maka hanya
ditambah dengan s

        Contoh:
        They play Futsal    
        Jim plays Futsal.
