Definition of Recount Text and Its Examples Recount text is one of a variety
of text genres. Recount text is studied at the junior high and high school levels. In this
paper we will discuss the meaning, purpose, and other things related to recount text.

A. Definition of Recount Text

Recount berarti menceritakan kembali. Jadi pengertian recount text adalah
sebuah teks dalam Bahasa Inggris yang menceritakan kembali tentang
peristiwa atau pengalaman yang terjadi di masa lampau.

B. Tujuan Recount Text

Tujuan teks recount adalah untuk memberikan informasi tentang peristiwa
yang terjadi. Namun, ini tidak seserius peristiwa dalam berita. Tujuannya
hanya untuk menghibur dan menarik minat pembaca.

C. Macam-Macam Recount Text

Jenis recount text ada 3, yaitu:
1. Personal Recount
Personal recount adalah teks yang menceritakan tentang pengalaman pribadi
penulis.
2. Factual Recount
Factual recount adalah teks yang berisi tentang sebuah peristiwa yang benar-
benar terjadi. Bentuknya hampir seperti laporan. Contoh recount text adalah
laporan ilmu pengetahuan, laporan kepolisian, dan lain-lain.
3. Imaginative Recount
Imaginative recount adalah teks recount yang berupa cerita karangan atau
rekayasa saja, dari imajinasi penulisnya. Walaupun bbegitu recount jenis ini
juga mencampurkan dengan peristiwa atau kejadian yang benar-benar terjadi.

D. Struktur Umum / Generic Structure Recount Text

Berikut ini adalah bentuk generic structure dari recount text:
a. Orientation
Bagian orientation adalah bagian paling awal pada teks. Orientation
merupakan bagian yang memperkenalkan informasi tentang tokoh, tempat dan
waktu kapan peristiwa yang diceritakan terjadi.
 b. Events
Events merupakan rentetan kejadian-kejadian yang terjadi. Rentetan kejadian
ini disampaikan secara kronologis, dari awal hingga akhir. Tidak jarang juga
kalau events tidak hanya disampaikan salam satu paragraf. Bisa juga
disampaikan dalam 2 atau 3 paragraf apabila peristiwanya lebih dari satu
kejadian.
c. Reorientation
Reorientation sebenarnya adalah pengulangan dari orientation. Reorientation
berisi tentang rangkuman ataupun kesimpulan dari peristiwa yang sudah
diceritakan.

E. Ciri Kebahasaan / Language Features Recount

Ciri redaksi dari recount text adalah:
- Menggunakan past tenses. Baik itu simple past tense, past continous tense,
maupun bentuk past tense lain. Banyak menggunakan action verb. Action
verb itu seperti went, planned, saw, heard, climbed, dan lain-lain.
- Menggunakan adverb dan adverbial phrases untuk mengungkapkan waktu,
tempat, cara, dan lain-lain. Contoh adverb yang menunjukkan waktu adalah
yesterday, at school, at mountain, quickly, slowly, dan lain-lain.
- Menggunakan conjunction dan time connectives untuk menjelaskan waktu
terjadinya peristiwa dan mengurutkannya secara kronologis. Contoh
conjuction time yang sering dipakai adalah but, after that, before.

Camping At A Hill

Last holiday, I went to my grandparent’s village. I met my old friends when I

was a kid. We planned to camp at a hill, near the village. We agreed we went on
weekend.

There were four of us. I decided to bring a torch and two recargable
emergency lamps for our lighting on the hill at night. Andre said he would bring his
camping tent because his was large enough for five people. Gilang would bring some
rope and a mat. Udin said he would bring some food from his garden and cooking
pot. Everyone should bring their own sleeping bags.

On that day, we met at the village gate. We went to the hill. After we got
there, we built our tent together. Andre and I looked for some dry twigs for campfire
preparation at night. While Udin and Gilang prepared for roasted chicken for our
dinner.

The night came. Campfire was set. It was the time for dinner. Udin prepared
for the sauce for our roasted chicken. It was delicious. He was a good cook at home,
so that was why we asked him to join.

I did not forget to bring my camera. We took photos to capture the moment. I
also wanted to take some night sky photos for my collection. I also planned to take
sunrise photos from the hill. We spent almost all night long talking and doing things.
After we got tired, we went to sleep.

We woke up late in the morning. I did not get my sunrise photos but still, it
was a fun experience with my friends.
