Read the story below and answer the questions that follow.

It was a hot afternoon. Ranjit and his best buddy, Raymond were at the bus stop in front
of their school. They were heading home after their grueling hockey practice at school.
They carried home their hockey sticks with them.

There was a young woman who was carrying a canvas bag on her shoulder. She
was waiting for the bus too. She seemed to be impatient. Perhaps she has waited for a
long time.

Out of the blue, Ranjit saw a motorbike coming towards the bus stop. The
motorbike came close to the woman and the pillion rider snatched her canvas bag. The
poor woman lost her balance and fell. At the drop of the hat, Ranjit hit the pillion rider
with his hockey stick while Raymond ran to the woman’s aid.

The snatch thief fell onto the road with the bag. Too bad the motorcyclist sped
off. The snatch thief scrambled up and managed to run away, leaving behind the canvas
bag. Raymond then picked up the bag and returned it to the woman. The woman was
extremely grateful as the bag contained a lot of money. She offered some money to the
boys as an appreciation of their good deed. However, they refused to accept the money.

There once was a king named Midas who did a good deed for a Satyr. And he was then
granted a wish by Dionysus, the God of Wine. For his wish, Midas asked that whatever
he touched would turn to gold. Despite Dionysus’ efforts to prevent it, Midas pleaded that
this was a fantastic wish and so it was bestowed. Midas wife was unhappy with the wish
too.

Excited about his newly earned powers, Midas started touching all kinds of
things, turning each item into pure gold. But soon, Midas became hungry. As he picked
up a piece of food, he found he couldn’t eat it. It had turned into gold in his hand.

Hungry, Midas groaned, “I’ll starve! Perhaps this was not such an excellent wish
after all!” Seeing his dismay, Midas’ beloved daughter threw her arms around him to
comfort him and she too turned into gold. His wife was too shocked that she touched
Midas and turned into gold too. “The golden touch is no blessing,” Midas cried.

THE BEAUTIFUL ROSE

Once upon a time in a desert far away, there was a rose who was so proud of her beautiful
looks. Her only complaint was growing next to an ugly cactus. Every day, the beautiful
rose insulted and mocked the cactus on his looks, but the cactus remained quiet. All the
other plants nearby tried to tell the rose about her wrongdoings, but she was too swayed
by her own looks.

One scorching summer, the desert became dry and there was no water left for the plants.
The rose quickly began to wilt. Her beautiful petals dried up and losing their lush colour.

Suddenly, she saw a sparrow dipped his beak into the cactus to drink some water. Though
ashamed, the rose asked the cactus if she could have some water too. The kind cactus
agreed, helping them both through the tough summer as friends.
