Puji syukur kami panjatkan kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa yang telah melimpahkan
petunjuk, kesehatan, ketabahan, dan kesabaran kepada kami sehingga penulisan Buku
English is Fun (Grade VIII) ini terselesaikan.
memberikan dukungannya selama proses penyusunannya.
Secara khusus kami mengucapkan terima kasih dan penghargaan yang setinggi-tingginya
kepada Dosen pengampu mata kuliah Language Material Evaluation and Design (LMED)
Yth. Ibu Asri Siti Fatimah, M.Pd. dan seluruh rekan-rekan yang telah membantu dalam
penyusunan Buku English is Fun ini. Mohon maaf bila masih banyak ditemukan kesalahan
dalam penulisan buku ini dan terima kasih atas pengertiannya. Kami menyadari bahwa buku
ini masih memiliki kekurangan-kekurangan. Masukan dari berbagai pihak, terutama guru
dan siswa pemakai bahan ajar ini, untuk perbaikan sangat kami harapan. Semoga bahan ajar
ini memberikan manfaat bagi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas VIII SMP/MTS.

Dialogue 2
Dialogue 3
1. Mrs. Harum: “I’m very proud of Siti. Now she can help me with the
housework before she goes to school. She can get up early herself."
2. Rani: “Yuli and Tono can make fried rice, and they can fry the egg nicely.
They can also serve fried rice beautifully with tomatoes and celery.”
3. Mr. Adnan: “It is usually not easy to speak English loudly and clearly. But,
I’m happy that many of you can do it well. Adi still makes mistakes, but
he can read his story loudly.”
4. Denata: “Fatima always speaks softly, but when she sings, she can sing
very loudly.”
5. Mrs. Fauzia: “Birds can fly because they have wings. We don’t have wings,
so we cannot fly. But we can make planes. With a plane we can fly very
high and go to far places.”
6. Mr. Rendy: “We cannot swim across the sea, but with a boat or a ship, we
can go to other islands.”
7. Mrs. Gracia: “The text is long and there are many new words in it. It is
not easy to read. But you can work together. If you do it together, I’m
sure you can understand it easily.”
8. Widi: “My nephew, Anton, is only two years old. But he is smart. He can
go up the stairs himself. He can also go down easily, too.”

We can learn well if the classroom is clean and tidy. So, we must
keep our classroom clean and tidy. We must not litter. We must
put the garbage in the garbage bin. We must not write or draw
anything on the desks and on the walls. We must sweep the floor
and dust the teacher’s desk and the shelf every day.

…… my mother
…, in this special day I would like to say …… for being a good mother for
me.
I will not be able to repay all the energy you sacrifice to make me….and
make me a good person.
I …. You. That is the only thing that I can say for you.
……………….
We will read the lyrics of the song below. If we want to, we can download the song from
the internet. This is a very good song. The message is that we can make the world better
because we care.
Here are what we will do with the song. First, we will copy the song in our notebooks.
Second, we will listen carefully to our teacher reading the lyrics, meaningfully. Third, we
will repeat the lyrics after him/her, line by line. Finally, in groups we will learn to read the
lyrics to each other, meaningfully too.
In this English lesson we’ll take a look at how we use the present simple
tense when talking about daily routines.
The simple present is a verb tense with two main uses. We use the
simple present tense when an action is happening right now, or when it happens
regularly (or unceasingly, which is why it's sometimes called present indefinite)
Structure/Formula:
Positive Sentence
If the subject is a singular noun i.e., it, he or she, then the verb is suffixed
by –s or –es. In case of plural nouns there is no change in the actual form of
the verb. For example, consider the below given sentences-
Negative Sentence
If the subject is a singular noun or pronoun like – it, he, she then ‘does not’ is
used and if the subjects are - they, we, I, you or a plural noun then ‘do not’ is
used for the negative sentences.
Interrogative Sentence
If the subject is –it, he, she, or a singular noun then ‘does’ is used and if the
subject is we, they, I, you or a plural noun then ‘do’ is used. Interrogative
sentences start with Do/Does or question words. For example, consider the
below given sentences-
Forming the present simple tense is simple – use the base form of the verb.
· I play…
· You work…
· They swim…
Remember – if you are using the third person singular (he/she/it) you need to
add s to the verb.
· He plays…
· She jumps…
· It kicks…
· I go to sleep at 11:00.
