KATA PENGANTAR

Puji syukur kami panjatkan kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa yang telah melimpahkan
petunjuk, kesehatan, ketabahan, dan kesabaran kepada kami sehingga penulisan Buku
English is Fun (Grade VIII) ini terselesaikan.
memberikan dukungannya selama proses penyusunannya.

PENDAHULUAN

Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu aspek dalam pengembangan

pengetahuan siswa. Melalui pembelajaran ini siswa dapat menghadapi era globalisasi.
Namun pada hakikatnya siswa kurang berminat untuk mempelajari Bahasa Inggris karena
Bahasa Inggris bukan Bahasa ibu dan tidak digunakan dalam kegiatan sehari-hari siswa.
Sehingga selama pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris mereka hanya sekedar menghafal bukan

OBSERVING AND ASKING QUESTION

We will state the characters we have

in this book. We will start with “There
is/are ....” meaning ‘ada’ in Bahasa
Indonesia

Here are what we will do. First, we will listen

carefully to our teacher reading the
presentation. Second, we will repeat the
description after him/her, sentence by
sentence. Then, in groups we will learn to
tell, not read, each other about the
characters. Finally, we will describe what
there are in the situation on the cover of
this chapter.

We will say the sentences loudly,

clearly, and correctly.

ENGLISH IS FUN | CHAPTER 5 BY RIDWAN FIRMANSAH 43

There are six characters in this book. There are
three girls; Siti, Dayu, and Lina. There are three
boys; Udin, Beni, and Edo. There is one girl with a
head scarf, Siti. There is one girl with plaits, Dayu.
There is one girl with loose hair, Lina. There is one
boy with curly hair, Edo. There is one boy with
straight hair, Udin. There’s one boy with wavy hair,
Beni.

We will learn to describe things by

stating what there are.

Here are what we will do. First, we will listen

carefully to our teacher reading the descriptions
by Siti, Edo, Lina, Beni, Udin, and Dayu. Second,
we will repeat each description after him/her,
sentence by sentence. Then, in groups we will
say, not read, to each other all the descriptions
about the conditions of the roads

We will say the sentences loudly,

clearly, and correctly

ENGLISH IS FUN | CHAPTER 5 BY RIDWAN FIRMANSAH 44

The roads are very busy now,
because there are many vehicles.
There are also many pedestrians.
There is little discipline on the
road, but there are very few
policemen around. In big cities, there are many traffic
jams everywhere. There are many
kinds of vehicles: cars, big buses,
minibuses, trucks, bicycles,
motorcycles, and becaks. Luckily,
there are not many carts now.

There are different kinds of public

transportation: buses, trains,
ojeks, and angkots. There are some
traditional transportations: becaks, Our roads are not safe now. There
bentors, andongs, or delmans are many people who cross the
roads, but there are many people
who drive very fast. There is little
care, so there is very much worry
on our roads

In big cities, there is much smoke

from the vehicles. You can say,
there is much air pollution. So,
there are very few stars in the sky
there. There are a lot more stars in In many places, there are not many
small villages trees anymore, so there is too much
water during the rainy season, and
too little water during the dry
season.

We will write the things that
make many roads busy and not
safe, stated by the girls and
the boys above, like the
example

Here are what we will do. We will

work in groups. First, we will study
the example. Second, we will read
each description again very
carefully, sentence by sentence.
Then, we will discuss to identify the
things they say. Then, each one of
us will handwrite the work in our
notebooks. Finally, we will present
our work to the class.

We will spell the words and use the

punctuation marks correctly. We will
say the sentences loudly, clearly,
and correctly. If we have any
problems, we will ask our teacher
for help.

Here are what we will do with the song. First, we will copy the song in our notebooks.
Second, we will listen carefully to our teacher reading the lyrics, meaningfully. Third, we

OBSERVING AND QUESTIONING

In this English lesson we’ll take a look at how we use the present simple
tense when talking about daily routines.

The simple present is a verb tense with two main uses. We use the
simple present tense when an action is happening right now, or when it happens
regularly (or unceasingly, which is why it's sometimes called present indefinite)

Formula of Simple Present Tense:

Structure/Formula:

Positive Sentence

The structure/formula of a Simple Present Positive Sentence is – subject +

main verb + object.

ENGLISH IS FUN | CHAPTER 6 BY M. PAHMI ANSORI 52

Rules for making Positive Sentences in Simple Present Tense:

If the subject is a singular noun i.e., it, he or she, then the verb is suffixed
by –s or –es. In case of plural nouns there is no change in the actual form of
the verb. For example, consider the below given sentences-

She listens to the lectures carefully.

I listen to the lectures carefully.

He goes to the market every day.

Negative Sentence

The structure of a Simple Present Negative Sentence is – subject + do

not/does not + main verb.

Rules for making Negative Sentences in Simple Present Tense:

If the subject is a singular noun or pronoun like – it, he, she then ‘does not’ is
used and if the subjects are - they, we, I, you or a plural noun then ‘do not’ is
used for the negative sentences.

Read the below given sentences for example-

It does not change colour.

He does not drink milk.

Interrogative Sentence

The basic structure of Simple Present Interrogative Sentences is- Do/Does +

subject + verb + object OR question words + Do/Does + subject + verb +
object.

Rules for making Interrogative Sentences in Simple Present Tense:

If the subject is –it, he, she, or a singular noun then ‘does’ is used and if the
subject is we, they, I, you or a plural noun then ‘do’ is used. Interrogative
sentences start with Do/Does or question words. For example, consider the
below given sentences-

Does it belong to him?

ENGLISH IS FUN | CHAPTER 6 BY M. PAHMI ANSORI 53

Simple Present Tense often used in daily routine, your routine is your normal
everyday activities. The things that you usually do on a normal school or work
day.

How to write about your simple daily routine:

1. Use the present simple tense.

Forming the present simple tense is simple – use the base form of the verb.

· I play…

· You work…

· They swim…

Remember – if you are using the third person singular (he/she/it) you need to
add s to the verb.

· He plays…

· She jumps…

· It kicks…

Example sentences with the simple present tense:

· I clean my teeth at 7:00.

· I go to sleep at 11:00.

2. Use adverbs of frequency.

100 % →→→→→→→→→→→→ 0 %

always, usually, often, sometimes, occasionally, hardly ever, rarely, never

I always clean my teeth before I go to school.

I sometimes have hot chocolate in the evening.

Note:

Get up and wake up have different meanings.

Wake up – means to open your eyes, to be awake.

Get up – means to stand up, get out of bed.
