Descriptive text is
a text that
describes people,
animals or objects
in terms of their
shape,
characteristics, etc.
• Purpose
The purpose of descriptive text is to explain, describe or
express someone or an object.
• Generic Structure
1. Identification (Identifikasi)
adalah pendahuluan berupa gambaran umum
tentang suatu topik. Indentifikasi berfungsi
untuk memperkenalkan kepada pembaca
tentang objek atau sesuatu yang akan kita
gambarkan sebelum kita beritahu tentang
sifat sifatnya
2. Description (Deskripsi)
berisi ciri-ciri khusus yang dimiliki benda,tempat
atau orang yang dideskripsikan.

• Language Features
1. Menggunakan Simple Present Tense
adalah bentuk tense sederhana yang
menggunakan pernyataan sederhana yang
menunjukkan kejadian yang terjadi

General Truth (kebenaran umum)
Example: The sun rises from the east
The sun sets in the west
Fish lives in the water

Habitual Action (kebiasaan)

Example : I always wake up at 5 am in the
morning
We drink milk every morning

Time Signal (keterangan waktu)

Formula (rumus) Verbal
Positive : S+V1 s/es + O
example: she goes to school
I go to school
Negatif : S + do not/does not +V1 + O
example: she doesn’t go to school
Interrogative : Do/does + S + V1 + O+?
example : do you go to school ?
Interrogative + Negative : Do/does (not) + S + V1 + O + ?
example : don’t you remember me ?

2.Menggunakan kata sifat (adjective)

Karena fungsinya adalah untuk menggambarkan sesuatu

dengan menjelaskan sifat-sifatnya, maka dalam
descriptive text akan banyak dijumpai kata sifat
(adjective), seperti: fast, handsome, beautiful, tall, small,
big dan masih banyak lagi atau jika kata sifat tersebut
berasal dari kata kerja, maka kamu akan mendapati
tambahan -ve, -ing, di belakangnya.
example : •Create (membuat/ verb-1) > creative (orang
yang pintar membuat sesuatu).
•Interest (menarik/verb-1) > interesting
(sesuatu yang menarik)
3.Menggunakan kata kerja penghubung
(relating verb)
Adalah kata kerja yang memberikan
penjelasan kepada kata benda yang menjadi
subjek dari suatu kalimat.Misalnya :
have,seem,appear,dan kata kerja lainnya

4.Specific participant
Memiliki objek tertentu,tidak bersifat umum dan
unik (hanya ada satu)Misalnya : parang tritis
beach,my house,borobudur temple

5.Action verb
Terdapat kata kerja yang menunjukkan sebuah
kegiatan(aktifitasnya bisa dilihat) Misalnya :
run,sleep,walk,cut dll.
 My House
I live in a small house. It has five rooms : there are two
bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom, and a kitchen.
Indeed it is a small house, but I like living in here for wasting
my spare time.
When the door is open, i can see the living room. It is so
small with only three chairs and a table, nothing else. I
prefer reading a novel in this room
My bedroom is in the left side of the living room. In this room
there is a night table next to the bed, a TV, a radio, and a
computer.
when being bored of reading. I usually play online games,
chat with my friends via facebook and so on.
Next to my bedroom is my mother’s. I do not know what is
inside because I never come in to see it. In the right side of
the living room there is the kitchen. In the kitchen i have
everything I need when i get hungry. It is very pleasure
when my mother cooks, the smell my whole house
I know it is a very small house, but it is the best place i have
ever seen.
