01. Definisi Sedimentasi
proses pemisahan padatan dan air berdasarkan perbedaan berat jenis dengan cara
pengendapan (SNI 6774:2008)
Sedimentasi adalah suatu proses pengendapan material yang ditransport oleh media air,
angin, es atau gletser di suatu cekungan. Delta yang terdapat di mulut-mulut sungai adalah
hasil dan proses pengendapan material-material yang diangkut oleh air sungai, sedangkan
bukit pasir (sand dunes) yang terdapat di gurun dan di tepi pantai adalah pengendapan dari
material-material yang diangkut oleh angin.

Berdasarkan penyebabnya, sedimentasi dapat diklasifikasikan ke dalam 3
jenis, yaitu sedimentasi akuatis, sedimentasi aeolis, dan sedimentasi
marine.
1. sedimentasi akuatis
sedimentasi akuatis juga sering disebut sedimentasi air sungai. Yang
dimaksud dengan sedimentasi akuatis adalah pengendapan materi yang
terbawa oleh air. Sedimentasi akuatis biasanya terjadi di dataran rendah
dan sungai. Hasil dari sedimentasi akuatis adalah kipas alluvial atau
dataran banjir.
2. sedimentasi aeolis
sedimentasi aeolis sering disebut sebagai sedimentasi karena angin, lho.
Sesuai dengan namanya, sedimentasi ini terjadi karena angin membawa
bahan-bahan yang kemudian mengalami pengendapan. Dataran yang
terbentuk dari proses sedimentasi aeolis adalah gumuk pasir.
3. sedimentasi marine
merupakan proses pengendapan material yang terjadi karena adanya
material yang terbawa oleh gelombang air laut. Oleh karena itu, hasil dari
sedimentasi marine antara lain adalah tumpukan karang dan tombolo.
Berdasarkan tempat pengendapannya, sedimentasi dapat dibedakan
menjadi 5 jenis, yaitu :
1. sedimen teristis
2. sedimen fluvial
3. sedimen limnis
4. sedimen marine
5. sedimen lakustris.
