Upgrade IOS Cisco Router

Heran, kenapa router tiap router baru itu IOS nya kok standar banget yah. Sebenarnya sih itu router mau buat jalanin protokol BGP. Tapi karena keterbatasan IOS yg cuma c2800nm-ipbase-mz.123-14.T7.bin. Pas di tes ternyata nggak bisa jalanin BGP. c2800#sh ver edited System image is flash:c2800nm-ipbase-mz.123-14.T7.bin edited Akhirnya diambil solusi untuk upgrade IOS. Untung kemaren hari, sempet bookmark situs un-official yg menyediakan download IOS gratis. Langsung aja dibuka tuh situs, trus download deh IOS yg dirasa cocok, tentunya level yg paling atas donk (advanced enterprise services).

Abis itu siapin Kabel UTP (Cross), Laptop dan router yg mo diupgrade. Maksudnya sih mau upgrade pake metode TFTP . Cek dulu deh kapasitas flashnya masih cukup gak yaa ?. Caranya pake command ini : c2800#sh file systems Size(b) Free(b) Type Flags Prefixes 63145256 39695855 flash rw flash: edited Wah cukup deh buat IOS gw yg baru c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-4.T1.bin yg besarnya totally 35 MB. Setelah setting laptop pake IP (192.168.5.2) yg satu network dengan router tsb (192.168.5.1). Colokin kabel Cross UTP ke Laptop dan Router. Tes ping dari laptop ke router (192.168.5.1) pun dilakukan, hasilnya reply. Siiip. Langsung aja deh jalanin command telnet ke Router. Sambil jalanin juga software TFTP Server di Laptop , gw pakenya Solarwind TFTP Server (Transmit and Receive mode). Untuk menghindari terjadinya hil-hil yg mustahal, gw backup dulu IOS aslinya. Dicopy ke TFTP (Laptop), besarnya kurang lebih 15 MB. Caranya dgn command ini : c2800#copy flash://c2800nm-ipbase-mz.123-14.T7.bin tftp://192.168.5.2/c2800nm-ipbase-mz.123-14.T7.bin Setelah proses copy selesai, baru copy-in IOS yg baru (c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-4.T1.bin) ke dari tftp ke flash. Caranya dgn command ini : c2800#copy tftp://192.168.5.2/c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-4.T1.bin flash://c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-4.T1.bin Entah kenapa proses ini failed, copy dari tftp ke flash gagal. Padahal space memory flash di router cukup lho (masih 40an mega) sedangkan IOS yg mau di copy cuma 35an mega. Kecurigaan gw mendarat pada si software TFTP (Solarwinds), maklum freeware (gratis aja, kok maunya kualitas bagus) hehehe. Sempet putus asa juga sih. Gimana cara copy IOS baru ke Router ?. Pas lihat front side Router 2811 ada port USB, wah kebetulan nih sekalian nyoba port USBnya. Tanpa buang waktu lagi, file IOS yg baru dicopy ke USB Flashdisk. Terus langsung colokin aja USB Flashdisk ke port USB nya router paling atas. Ke-detect sih, cuma nggak bisa di dir. c2800#dir usbflash1: invalid DOS format

Wah kenapa nih, padahal klo di cek pake Laptop sih normal aja tuh. Bisa kebaca seperti biasa. Akhirnya tanya mbah Google, ketemu jawabannya. si Flashdisk harus diformat dulu pakai router. Caranya : c2800#format usbflash1: Abis itu flashdisk dicabut dari router, terus ditancap kemali ke Laptop untuk copy IOS yg baru. Kemudian setelah tercopy, tancapkan lagi ke router. Untuk mengcopy jalankan command : c2800#copy usbflash1://c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-4.T1.bin flash://c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-4.T1.bin Proses copy dari USB memakan waktu lebih lama daripada metode TFTP. Setelah selesai copy nya, konfigur si router agar booting dengan memakai IOS baru. Caranya dgn command ini : c2800#conf t c2800(config)#boot system flash c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-4.T1.bin c2800(config)#end Copy perubahan konfigurasi yg baru ke startup-config dengan command : c2800#wr atau c2800#copy run start Kemudian reset router, maksudnya agar si router booting memakai file IOS yang baru. Caranya dengan menggunakan command : c2800#reload Tunggu 5-10 menitan, trus telnet lagi deh. Langsung aja di cek IOS nya sudah terpakai atau belum. Caranya dengan command : c2800#sh ver edited System image is flash:c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-4.T1.bin edited (mode Dora On) Berhasil Berhasil Horeee !!! (mode Dora Off)

Procedure 2-Upgrade Cisco IOS Software

In order to upgrade the Cisco IOS Software image, complete the following steps: 1. Go to http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/sw-ios.shtml to download the Cisco IOS Software to your designated Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server. 2. Verify that the router can communicate with the assigned TFTP server. 3. Log onto the router and enter the EXEC mode by entering the enable password and secret. 4. Use the following command to view the current Cisco IOS Software image name from router flash memory:

5. Use the delete command to remove the current Cisco IOS Software image stored in flash memory. Please make sure step 2 is successful before attempting the image deletion.

Router#delete c1841-broadband-mz.124-9.T Delete filename [c1841-broadband-mz.124-9.T]? Delete flash:c1841-broadband-mz.124-9.T? [confirm]

Press Return to confirm the deletion. 6. Use the copy tftp flash command to download the new Cisco IOS Software image.

Router#copy tftp flash Address or name of remote host []? 10.10.10.10 Source filename []?c1841-broadband-mz.124-11.T.bin

Destination filename [c1841-broadband-mz.124-11.T ]? Accessing tftp://10.10.10.10/c1841-broadband-mz.124-11.T.bin...

7. Reload the router after a successful TFTP download for the new Cisco IOS Software image to take effect.
