The following text is for questions 12 to 14
Liberty Statue
The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World or mostly known as The Statue of Liberty is
located in Liberty Island in New York Harbor, United States. This national building is symbol of
freedom. It was a gift from The French to United States to celebrate the centennial of the American
Declaration of Independence.
Liberty Statue is made of 3.16 inches thick of copper sheets. The appearance of the statue is
believed to be representing the Roman goddess of freedom. Its right hand is holding a torch, and the
left hand is holding a book with the date of the American Declaration of Independence written on it.
The colour of the statue was rusty brown, but after 30 years of oxidation process, it turns into green
as we can see now.
The height of the statue measured from its base is 46 meters, but when it is measured from
the ground, it is 93 meters. The height of the head is 14 feet. The width of the eye is 28 inches. The
length of the nose is 3 feet 9 inches. The length of the forefinger is 8 feet. The total weight of the

The start of the Reformation movement in Indonesia could not be separated from students‟
action 23 years ago.
The world monetary crisis that affected Indonesia caused people demanded a change in
leadership.
In May 1998, a number of students staged demonstration against President Soeharto‟s
leadership. However, student demonstrations turned into tragedy on May 12, 1998. The reason was
the police acted repressively in handling student demonstration at Trisakti University.
The next day on May 13-15 1998, riot became worse it had racial issues.
May, 18, 1998, the UI students and other couple thousands students decided to take a
demonstration toward The People's Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia/DPR RI
office. It was a massive demonstration to DPR/MPR building.
May 18, 1998 at around 3.30 pm, at DPR office, People's Representative Council, Harmoko
urged President Soeharto to resign in the name of national unity and integrity.
Thursday, May 21, 1998 at 9 am became a history for the Indonesian reformation. President
Soeharto officially resigned as a president after 32 years in power. Soeharto resigned and was

Bandung as Sea of Fire
Bandung as Sea of Fire was a fire that occurred in the city of Bandung on March 24, 1946.
Within seven hours, about 200,000 residents of Bandung burned their homes.
British troops as part of the Brigade MacDonald arrived in Bandung on October 12, 1945.
Bandung was deliberately burned by TRI and local people. There was black smoke billowing high
into the air everywhere. The British Army began to attack so fierce. The greatest battle happened in
the Village name Dayeuh Kolot, in South Bandung, where there were a large ammunition depot
belonging to British. In this battle, Barisan Rakyat Indonesia destroyed the ammunition depot.
The strategy to fire Bandung was considered because the power of TRI and people‟s militia
was not comparable to the British forces and NICA. This incident inspired to create the famous
song “Halo Halo Bandung”. To remember what they did and struggled, they built the Bandung

The Legend of Banyuwangi
Once upon a time, there was a local ruler named King Sulahkromo. The king had a Prime
Minister named Raden Sidopekso. The Prime Minister had a wife named Sri Tanjung. She was so
beautiful that the king wanted her to be his wife.
One day, the King sent his Prime Minister to a long mission. While the Prime Minister was
away, the King tried to get Sri Tanjung. However, he failed. He was very angry. Thus, when
Sidopekso went back, the King told him that his wife was unfaithful to him. The Prime Minister
was very angry with his wife. Sri Tanjung said that it was not true. However, Sidopekso said that he
would kill her.
He brought her to the river. Before he killed her, she said “Throw my body to the river, if it
smells fragrant, then I‟m innocent.” So, he threw her dead body into the dirty river. The river
immediately became clean and began to spread a wonderful fragrance. Sidopekso said,
“Banyu…Wangi… Banyuwangi”. Sidopekso cried loudly. He regretted what he had done to his
wife. But it was too late.
Banyuwangi means “fragrant water”. Banyuwangi was born from the proof of noble and

Dampu Awang, A Legend From Banten

A poor widow lived with her son named Dampu Awang. The child's desire was so great to
leave so that he could change the fate of his family. With a heavy heart, the mother finally allowed
Dampu Awang to wander on the condition that she had to look after Si Ketut, a bird who was very
good at sending messages.
One day a rich merchant, Teuku Abu Matsyah, was leaning against Banten. Dampu intended to
join the ship. Because of his honest, diligent and hardworking attitude, Teuku Abu Matsyah's
daughter was attracted to Dampu and they got married. Dampu slowly became a rich merchant as
well.
After years of wandering, Dampu docked his ship at the port of Banten. This news made his
mother happy. However, the joy vanished. When she met her son, Dampu did not admit it, even
insulted her.
Dampu‟s mother prayed to God, “Oh God, if it is true that this young man is not my son, let
him go anyway. But, if he is a servant's son, my son Dampu Awang, give him a lesson because he
has hurt his own mother's feeling. "
Suddenly the sky was dark, the day suddenly became a dark night, lightning, lightning, thunder
shouted. Even grabbed Dampu‟s ship which was leaning, until it capsized. The ship became Mount
