Armijn Pane was an Indonesian author of the “ new generation” poets. Born in
Tapanuli, he attended school at the Hollandsch-Inlandsche School (HIS) and continued to
Europeesche Lagere School ( ELS) in North Sumatra. Graduating from ELS, Armijn Pane
moved to Jakarta to join medical training in STOVIA in Jakarta and NIAS in Surabaya.
Then he continued to AMS in Surakarta, where he graduated with a degree in Western
Classsical Literature.
Armijn Pane began his career as a journalist in Surabaya. Then he taught at Taman
Siswa in Kediri and Jakarta. In 1933, Armijn Pane and Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana started
Poedjangga Baroe ( New Poet) magazine. In 1936, he also joined Balai Pustaka as an
editor.
Creating a lot of literary works, of which the greatest was Belenggu, Armijn Pane
made important contributions to Indonesian literature. Armijn Pane was honoured for his
work in literature by the Government of Republic of Indonesia in 1969

The National Monument, or “Monas”, as it is popularly called, is one of the monuments

built during the Sukarno era of fierce nationalism. Monas is a famous among Indonesian people
as the highest historic building in Jakarta. It was established to commemorate Indonesia’s
struggle for independence from the Dutch colonialism. Since it was opened to public, this
National Monument has become one of the popular tourist destinations in Indonesia.
Monas is a tower with a height of 132 meters. The building has as its special characteristic
the flame shape, covered with gold foil, that you can see on the top of the tower. If visitors go
down to the base of the tower, they will see a museum measuring 80 X 80 meters. Ruang
Kemerdekaan is in the cup part of Monas. Actually , it is an amphitheater within this building .
Visitors can also use the elevator to access the top platform and the Flame of independence.
Monas is open to public every day. You can visit to reemember the struggle of Indonesian
heroes againts colonialism and learn about Indonesian history. You will see many kinds of
historical buildings and other unique inheritance. By visiting historical buildings, we will keep
this nation secure as one of the great nations of the world.

4 red potatoes
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Steps
1.  Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm,
about 15 minutes.
2.  Drain the potatoes and cut them into 1/2 inch cubes when they are already cool.
3.  In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium high heat. Add onion and green
pepper. Cook about 5 minutes stirring often, until soft. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
4.  Pour remaining 2 tablespoons of oil into the skillet and turn heat to medium-high.
5.  Add potato cubes, salt, paprika and black pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until
potatoes are  browned about 10 minutes.
6.  Stir in the onions, green peppers and parsley and cook for another minute. Serve hot.

The peach is known as a species of Prunus. It is a kind of edible juicy fruit. It is native to China.
The peach tree grows to 4-10 m tall. It is a deciduous tree so it will fall its leaves in certain
seasons. It belongs to the subfamily Prunoideae of the family Rosaceae.

The leaves are 7-16 em long and 2-3 em broad. The flowers are produced in early spring before
the leaves. They are solitary or paired with about 2,5-3 cm in diameter. The color of the flower
is pink.

Peach fruit is very nice. Its aroma smells good. The color of the flesh is yellow or white. The
skin of the peach is smooth or velvety. The flesh is soft and juicy. It is delicious. It is a little bit
harder when it is unripe. Inside the flesh, there is a large single seed. The seed is oval in shape.
Its color is red-brown. Its length is about 1,3-2 cm. A wood–like husk surrounds this seed.

Most people know peaches as 'persicas'. It is related to the belief that peaches were native to
Persia (now Iran). The modern botanical consensus is that they originate in China, and were
introduced to Persia and the Mediterranean region along the Silk Road before Christian times.
