At an early age, his family moved to Bukhara where he studied Hanafi jurisprudence with
Isma‘il Zahid and at about 13 years of age he studied medicine with a number of teachers. At
the age of 16, he established himself as a respected physician. Besides studying medicine, he
also dedicated much of his time to the study of physics, natural sciences and metaphysics.
Avicenna was one of the most celebrated philosophers and physicians in the early Islamic
empire. In the Latin West, his metaphysics and theory of the soul had a profound influence
on scholastic arguments, and as in the Islamic East, it was the basis for considerable debate
and argument. They regarded him as the principal representative of philosophy in Islam.
Like other Islamic scholars, he studied the writings of the lands that were being absorbed
into an expanding Islamic Empire. For example, the Canon of Medicine incorporates the
work of Galen, as well as ancient Ayurvedic, Arabian and Persian texts. It also contains his
own theories of medicine. The resulting synthesis sets out a medical system that was
accepted as the standard for centuries. As such, his influence on the development of
medicine across much of the world is significant.
He wrote prolifically on a wide range of subjects. He is thought to have created over 400
works on various topics but only about half have made it though time. Forty of his medical
texts have survived, including one of the most significant books in the history of medicine
called "Canon of Medicine". It was printed in Europe at least 60 times between 1516 and
1574. The Canon remained a major authority for medical students in both the Islamic world
and Europe until well into the 1700s.

Bullying includes behaviors that focus on making someone else feel inadequate, or focus
on belittling someone else. Bullying includes harassment, physical harm, repeatedly demeaning
speech and efforts to ostracize another person. Bullying is done with the intention of bringing
another person down. It is important to realize that there are different kinds of bullying.
Physical Bullying: This is the most obvious form of bullying. In this type of bullying, the
instigator attempts to physically dominate another teen. This usually includes kicking, punching
and other physically harmful activities. These are designed to instill fear in the one bullied, and
coerce him or her to do something.
Verbal Bullying: When someone verbally bullies another, he or she uses demeaning
language to tear down another's self-image. Bullies who use verbal techniques excessively tease
others, say belittling things, and use a great deal of sarcasm with the intent to hurt the other
person's feelings or humiliate the other teen in front of others.
Emotional Bullying: This is even more subtle than verbal bullying. Teenage bullying that
includes emotional methods aims at getting someone else to feel isolated, and alone. This type of
bullying is designed to get others to ostracize the person being bullied.
Cyber Bullying: Electronic bullying is becoming a very real problem for teens. This type
of bullying uses instant messaging, cell phone text messages, and online social networks to
humiliate and embarrass others. This can be especially devastating to the people being bullied
because they cannot even find a safe place in the virtual world.
Monday’s tsunami along the southern coast of Java has caused devastating losses that
are still being counted. Traumatized survivors, many camped out in the hills far from the
shore line, are living in fear that another earthquake would trigger another wave destruction.
The earthquake which triggered a tsunami wiped out the beach resorts and fishing
villages along the southern coast of Java. The meteorology and geophysics agency (BMG)
said that the Wednesday’s earthquake measured 6.2 on the Richter Scale.
Its epicenter was 48 kilometers below the sea level. BMG official, Weni, said the areas
on the coast of West Java and Banten, as well as those in the south coast of Lampung, were
at risk of being hit by a tsunami. However, the possibility of a tsunami was quickly
discounted by other agencies.

The Shard is an 87-storey skyscraper, which sits in the heart of London. It is known as the
shard of glass. Construction began in 2009 and was completed three years later in 2012,
making it Western European's tallest building.
Designed by architect Renzo Piano, The Shart is the second tallest free standing structure in
the UK. Its exterior boasts 11,000 glass panels — that's equivalent in area to eight football
pitches or two-and-a-half Trafalgar Squares.
The building was developed to have multiple uses, describes on the website as a 'vertical
city where people can live, work and relax'. This motto was clearly taken on board that was
found on the 72nd floor towards the end of construction.

Question 41 refer to the text below!
Monarch butterflies are the most beautiful of all butterflies, some say, and are considered
the “king” of the butterflies, hence the name “monarch”.
Monarch butterflies go through four stages during one life cycle, and trough four
generations in one year. The four stages of the monarch butterfly life cycle are the egg,
the larvae (caterpillar), the pupa(chrysalis), and the adult butterfly. The four generations
are actually four different butterflies going through these four stages during one year until
it is time to start over again with stage one and generation one.
In February and March, the final generation of hibernating monarch butterflies
comes out of hibernation to find a mate. Then they migrate north and east in order to find
a place to lay their eggs. This start stage one and generation one of the new year for the
monarch butterfly.
The Titanic was the biggest ship in the world at that time. It had good facilities such as: a fully
air conditional cabin, restaurant, bar, mini shop, recreation space, ship’s band and singers,
medical facilities, telephone, etc. When the Titanic sailed from Southampton to New York in
April 1912 with 819 crews and 1316 passengers, it sank after it sailed for four days. It
happened in North Atlantic Ocean. It hit a very big iceberg. Since there were not enough
lifeboats and all the passengers or the crews were very afraid, the ship sank rapidly, most of
passengers and crews sank and only few people was safe.
