ABSTRACT
Farizabad, Boby Al. 2021. The relationship between repetitive motion and the
occurrence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in online motorcycle taxi drivers in
Malang City. Final assignment of the Faculty of Medicine. University of

Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment
neuropathic syndrome of the upper extremities, with an incidence rate of 3.3–3.5 per
1000 person-years. CTS can cause pain, numbness and loss of hand function in the
affected hand. Online motorcycle taxi drivers have work activities that often include
repetitive motion activities on the wrist so that it affects the incidence of CTS such as
grasping, riding a motorcycle for a long time, some drivers feel numb hands and a
feeling of radiance when working for a long time. The higher the frequency of
repetitive motion, the higher the risk. Several examinations can be performed to
diagnose CTS symptoms, filling out a questionnaire about CTS complaints, Phalen's
test.
Objective: To determine the relationship between repetitive motion and the
occurrence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in online motorcycle taxi drivers in Malang
City
Methods: This study used a cross sectional design involving 90 respondents using
non-probability sampling with purposive sampling technique. The data obtained were
analyzed using the chi-square test.
Results: It can be seen from the results of statistical tests using the chi-square test
which is not met because there is an expected count value of more than 20% in the
2x2 table and continued with Fisher Exact Test, sig value is more than 0.05, namely
0.751, there is no relationship repetitive motion with CTS.
Key Words: CTS, repetitive motion, driver ojek online
