Safety Data Sheet/Material Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS)

Material Safety data Sheet (MSDS) atau dalam Bahasa Indonesia biasa disebut sebagai
Lembar Data Keamanan Bahan merupakan dokumen yang penting untuk menunjang keselamatan
kerja di laboratorium, atau di lingkungan kerja manapun. MSDS berisi tentang informasi mengenai
prosedur dan petunjuk yang tepat dan harus diketahui oleh pekerja, terkait dengan petunjuk
penanganan, penyimpanan, dan prosedur pembuangan bahan kimia setelah digunakan. Pada
umumnya MSDS selalu disertai dalam setiap pembelian bahan kimia terkait, hal ini sesuai dengan
peraturan seperti keputusan Menteri Kesehatan nomor 472 tahun 1996, keputusan Menteri tenaga
kerja nomor 187 tahun 1999, PP 74 tahun 2001 tentang B3 serta keputusan Menteri perindustrian
no. 87 tahun 2009 tentang Global Harmonize System (GHS). Setiap personil yang akan
menggunakan bahan kimia tersebut dainjurkan untuk membaca MSDS tersebut demi keamanan
pekerja. Bagian-bagain yang terdapat pada MSDS bisa berbeda-beda, dan umumnya harus
mengandung informasi tentang :
a. Identitas semua ingredient yang terkandung <1% jika memiliki sifat bahaya terhadap
kesehatan atau jika dapat melepaskan bahan berbahaya melebihi nilai ambang batas
(NAB) yang ditentukan.
b. Bahaya kesehatan termasuk tanda-tanda dan gejala jika terpajan.
c. Kondisi medis yang terjadi jika terpajan.
d. Rute utama masuk kedalam tubuh (route of entry)
e. Bahaya kanker jika ada.
f. Sifat fisik dan kimia
g. Batas pajanan (NAB)
h. Peringatan bahaya
i. Prosedur pembersihan
j. Pertolongan pertama atau darurat

Sedangkan untuk bagian-bagian yang terdapat pada MSDS, menurut format standard dari
ANSI yaitu sebagai berikut :
1. Bagian 1 memberikan informasi rinci mengenai nama, CAS number (no. registrasi
internasional), nama perusahaan yang mengeluarkan, dan nomor kontak darurat. CAS
number adalah nomor unik yang diberikan oleh ACS (Chemical Abstracts Service)
pada setiap bahan kimia yang sudah diketahui, ditemukan, atau disintesis.
2. Bagian 2 menunjukan bahan berbahaya OSHA, dan mungkin meliputi bahan kunci
lainnya serta ambang batas.
3. Bagian 3 menunjukan pengaruh terhadap kesehatan.
4. Bagian 4 menyediakan ukuran pertolongan pertama yang perlu diberikan pada paparan
bahan kimia tersebut.
5. Bagian 5 menampilkan besarnya penanganan pemadam kebakaran yang perlu diambil.
6. Bagian 6 menujukkan prosedur yang perlu diambil jika kecelakaan terhadap bahan
tersebut terjadi.
7. Bagian 7 menunjukkan informasi penanganan dan penyimpanan bahan kimia. Bagian
tersebut merupakan bagian yang penting.
8. Bagian 8 memberikan garis besar batas regulator paparan bahan kimia, biasanya nilai
PEL maksimum.
9. Bagian 9 memberikan informasi sifat fisik dan kimia bahan.
10. Bagian 10 memberikan informasi kreaktifan dan kestabilan.
11. Bagian 11 memberikan informasi toksisitas akun dan kronis.
12. Bagian 12 menunjukkan baik ekotoksisitas dan bahaya bahan terhadap lingkungan.
13. Bagian 13 menyediakan saran pembuangan bahan kimia.
14. Bagian 14 memberikan informasi pendistribusian yang dibutuhkan.
15. Bagian 15 menunjukan garis besar informasi regulatori, seperti kode bahaya.
16. Bagian 16 memberikan informasi mengenai label peringatan, tanggal penyiapan atau
revisi, serta pihak yang mengeluarkan MSDS.

Berikut ini merupakan contoh analisis terhadap laporan/lembar MSDS yang terletak pada
suatu bahan kimia.

B. Identifikasi Informasi terkait Produk

Berdasarkan keterangan tentang bahan kimia niacinamide (nicotinamide)


yang tertera pada Safety Data Sheet di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa :

1. Pada section 2, dikatakan bahwa zat niacinamide ini dapat menyebabkan


keracunan apabila masuk ke dalam mulut dan akan berbahaya apabila
tertelan, selain itu, bahan kimia ini juga dapat menimbulkan iritasi yang cukup
serius pada mata.

Untuk menghindari permasalahan serius tersebut, maka disarankan untuk


menggunakan pelindung mata dan pelindung wajah ketika menggunakan
bahan kimia tersebut. Selain itu disarankan pula untuk mencuci tangan dan
membersihkan tubuh setelah menggunakan bahan kimia tersebut.

Pada section 2 tersebut, dinyatakan juga perilaku yang harus kita lakukan
segera setelah mata kita terkontaminasi bahan kimia tersebut. Selain pada
section 2, pada section 4 pun disebutkan pula pertolongan pertama yang dapat
kita lakukan apabila tubuh kita, bagian dari tubuh kita terkontaminasi oleh
bahan kimia tersebut.

2. Pada section 5,disebutkan petunjuk Tindakan apabila terjadi kebakaran akibat


bahan kimia berbahaya tersebut. Di dalamnya, disebutkan bahwa benda
mudah terbakar apabila berada pada temperature yang tinggi. Kemudian
disebutkan juga bahwa pembakaran yang berbahaya dapat sewaktu-waktu
timbul di bawah paparan api. Dijelaskan pula di dalamnya benda-benda atau
bahan yang dapat digunakan untuk memadamkan api yang timbul dari bahan
kimia tersebut dan alat-alat apa saja yang dibutuhkan untuk membantu
memadakannya. Begitu pula dengan section 6, yang didalamnya disebutkan
pula petunjuk Tindakan yang dapat dilakukan ketika terjadi bahaya-bahaya
lain yang timbul.
3. Pada section 7, disebutkan cara-cara penanganan dan penyimpanan bahan
yang mengandung niacinamide, dan anjuran-anjuran lain terkait penyimpanan
niacinamide tersebut, dimana penyimpanannya haruslah jauh dari kontak
dengan tubuh, dan selalu mencuci tangan setelah menggunakan bahan kimia
terkait. Penyimpanannya pun harus dijauhkan dari bahan-bahan lain yang
tidak kompatibel dengan niacinamide, dan harus terjaga dengan baik.

4. Pada section 9,dijelaskan tentang sifat-sifat kimia dan fisik dari niacinamide,
seperti, bentuk fisiknya yang padat, dan dijelaskan pula sifat kelarutan dari
bahan kimia tersebut. Di dalamnya juga dijelaskan beberapa hal lain seperti
suhu pengapian yang terletak pada 480°C atau 898°F, serta disebutkan pula
titik didih dari cairan tersebut, yaitu pada suhu 157°C atau 314.6°F, sedangkan
untuk titik bekunya berada pada suhu (128-131)°C atau (262.4- (267.4-
267.8)°F. Untuk titik nyala dari bahan tersebut yaitu terletak pada suhu 182°C
atau 359.6°F, dan untuk pH nya cenderung netral, yakni berada pada pH 6.0
hingga 7.5.
