This brief handbook provides illustrations of the main baitfishes utilized in
the skipjack pole-and-line fishery of eastern Indonesia, with local Bahasa
Indonesia names from various localities, and brief commentary on their
qualities as live bait, and maximium size. The species are organized as
primary and secondary species, based on available information on their
contribution to the fishery and general abundance in catches. The guide
is intended to assist with the accurate recording of baitfish catch data
from the fishery.

umpan utama yang digunakan pada perikanan pole-and-line di Indone-
sia timur, dengan nama lokal Bahasa Indonesia dari berbagai daerah, dan
penjelasan singkat mengenai kualitas ikan-ikan tersebut sebagai umpan
hidup, serta ukuran maksimumnya. Jenis umpan (spesies ikan) dikelom-
pokkan berdasarkan spesies primer dan sekunder, berdasarkan informasi
yang tersedia dari kontribusinya pada perikanan dan tingkat kelimpahan
tangkapan secara umum.Panduan ini dimaksudkan untuk membantu pen-
catatan yang akurat mengenai data tangkapan ikan umpan dari perikanan.
