The Crying Stone – Batu Menangis

IN a small village, a girl lives with her mother. The girl is very beautiful. Everyday she puts make-up and wears her best
clothes. She doesn't like to help her mother work in a field. The girl is very lazy.
DI sebuah desa kecil, hidup seorang gadis dengan ibunya. Gadis itu sangat cantik. Dia selalu mengenakan tata rias dan
memakai pakaiannya yang paling bagus. Dia tidak suka membantu ibunya bekerja di sawah. Gadis itu sangat malas.

One day, the mother asks the girl to accompany her to go to the market to buy some food. At first the girl refuses, but
the mother persuades her by saying they are going to buy new clothes. The girl finally agrees. But she asks her mother
to walk behind her. She doesn't want to walk side by side with her mother.
suatu hari, ibunya meminta gadis itu menemaninya untuk pergi ke pasar membeli beberapa makanan. Awalnya gadis
itu menolak, tapi membujuknya dengan berkata kalau mereka akan pergi membeli baju baru. Akhirnya gadis itu setuju
ikut. Tapi dia meminta ibunya berjalan di belakangnya. Dia tidak mau berjalan berdampingan dengan ibunya.

Although her mother is very sad, she agrees to walk behind her daughter.
On the way to the market, everybody admires the girl's beauty. They are also curious. Behind the beautiful girl, there is
an old woman with a simple dress. The girl and her mother look very different!
Meskipun ibunya sangat sedih, dia menurut untuk berjalan di belakang putrinya. Dalam perjalanan ke pasar, semua
orang memuji kecantikan gadis itu. Mereka juga penasaran. Di belakang gadis cantik itu, ada wanita tua dengan
pakaian sederhana. Gadis itu dan ibunya berpenampilan berbeda!

"Hello, pretty lady. Who is the woman behind you?" asks them. “She is my servant,” answers the girl.
“Halo, gadis cantik. Siapa wanita di belakangmu itu?” tanya mereka. “Dia adalah pembantuku,” jawab si gadis.

The mother is very sad, but she doesn't say anything. The girl and the mother meet other people. Again they ask who
the woman behind the beautiful girl. Again the girl answers that her mother is her servant. She always says that her
mother is her servant every time they meet people.
Ibunya sangat sedih, tetapi dia tidak berkata apapun. Gadis itu dan ibunya bertemu dengan orang lain. Dan lagi mereka
bertanya siapakah wanita yang ada di belakang si gadis. Dan lagi-lagi si gadis menjawab kalau ibunya adalah
pembantunya. Dia selalu mengatakan kalau ibunya adalah pembantunya setiap dia bertemu orang.

At last, the mother cannot hold the pain anymore. She prays to God to punish her daughter. God answers her prayer.
Slowly, the girl's leg turns into stone. The process continues to the upper part of the girl's body. The girl is very panicky.
Akhirnya, ibunya sudah tidak tahan lagi. Dia berdoa pada Tuhan untuk menghukum putrinya. Dan Tuhan menjawab
doanya. Dengan perlahan, kaki gadis itu berubah menjadi batu. Lalu berlanjut sampai ke bagian atas tubuh gadis itu.
Gadis itu sangat panik.

"Mother, please forgive me!" she cries and ask her mother to forgive her.
“Ibu, tolong maafkan aku!” dia menangis dan meminta ibunya memaafkannya.

But it's too late. Her whole body finally becomes a big stone. Until now people still can see tears falling down the
stone. People then call it the crying stone or batu menangis.

orang masih bisa melihat air mata yang jatuh dari batu itu. Orang-orang menyebutnya batu

Sleeping BeautyOnce upon a time, there was a King and Queen. And when their baby daughter was born theywere so
happy they decided to have a big party. They invited all their family, all their friends andall the fairies in the land. Now
there were 13 fairies altogether but the king but queen onlyinvited 12. They forgot about the 13th. And that was
something they should not have done.Well, it was a splendid party! There were silver dishes piled high with delicious
food and goldenplates at every place. And when everyone had finished eating, the fairies gathered around the
baby’s cradle and they each made a magic wish. The princess shall be beautiful said the first.
And happy, said the second. And kind, said the third. And so they went on. The princess was tobe brave, and clever and
truthful. She was to have a sweet singing voice and light dancing feetAnd, then, just as the twelfth fairy was about to
make her wish, in came the thirteenth. She wasfurious, because she had not been invited to th
e party. Here is my wish, she said. “When the princess is 16 years old, she will prick her finger on a spindle and she will
die.” And with that,
the thirteenth fairy vanished.
hen the 12th fairy said, “I cannot change all of the wicked fairies powerful magic.” So the
princess will prick her finger but she will not die! She slept for a hundred years. The king andqueen thanked the fairy
for her kindness but they were not happy. They did not want theirdaughter to sleep for a hundred years. So they
ordered that every spinning wheel and spindle inthe land must be chopped up and burnt. Then they thought that the
princess was safe.The years passed and the princess grew up. She was very beautiful and clever at lots of
differentthings. She was, in fact, everything the fairies had wished her to be. On her sixteenth birthday,the princess
was exploring the castle when she came to a little room at the top of a tall tower.
And in that room was an old woman sitting by a spinning wheel. “What are you doing?” asked
the
princess?”

“I am spinning,” said the old woman, who was really the wicked thirteenth fairy, “would youlike to try?”

“Oh yes,” said the princess, and she sat down by the spinning wheel. But as soon as she touched
the spindle, the sharp point pricked her finger and she fell asleep.And the old woman vanished. At that same moment,
the king and the queen, the servants, thecats and the dogs all fell asleep! Even the fire stopped burning and the
roasting meat stoppedsizzling. Everything slept.Then a hedge of wild roses grew up around the castle. It grew and it
grew until the castle washidden.

One hundred years passed and then a prince came riding by and saw the top of the tower risingup above the hedge of
roses. How strange, he said, I never knew there was a castle here!He jumped off his horse and lifted his sword to cut
away the hedge. But as soon as the swordtouched the branch, a path opened up in front of him. So prince walked
freely through the hedge.He entered castle, and walked from room to room. Imagine his surprise, everyone and
everythingwas fast asleep.At last he entered a little room at the end of a tall tower and he saw the sleeping princess.
Shewas so very beautiful that he bent down and kissed her. Then the spell was broken and theprincess opened her
eyes.At the same moment, everyone and everything in the castle awoke! The king yawned, the queenblinked, the cats
had a good stretch and the dogs wagged their tails.The servants began to work, the fire began to flame, and the
roasting meat began to sizzle. Ahundred years had not changed anyone or anything.And what happened next? Why
the beautiful princess married the prince, who had wo g deep sleep.The End
