TTDI benchmarks and measures “the set of factors and policies that enable the sustainable and
resilient development of the Travel and Tourism (T&T) sector, which in turn contributes to the
development of a country”.
The transition from TTCI to TTDI reflects the index’s increased coverage of travel and tourism
(T&T) development concepts, including the expanding role of sustainability and resilience in 35
T&T growth, and is designed to focus more attention on the sector’s role in broader economic
and social development as well as the greater need for T&T stakeholder collaboration and
integrated development strategies (local, regional and international) to mitigate the impact of
the pandemic, bolster the recovery and deal with future challenges and risks.

Merujuk statistik pariwisata, Malaysia berada di puncak daftar destinasi favorit WNI. Tak
hanya di Asia Tenggara sebenarnya, tapi juga di dunia. Pada 2019, 3,6 juta turis Indonesia
melancong ke Negeri Jiran.
Pesaing terdekat Malaysia ialah Singapura. Petugas imigrasinya menstempel 3,1 juta paspor
Garuda pada 2019. Persaingan Singapura dan Malaysia dalam memikat turis Indonesia cukup

ketat. Pada 2017, Singapura bahkan unggul sedikit dari tetangganya itu.
Podium ketiga dalam tabel negara favorit WNI di Asia Tenggara dihuni oleh Thailand. Pada
2019, Negeri Gajah Putih menjaring sekitar 700.000 turis WNI, atau rata-rata 2.000 turis per
hari.
