ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to improve communication skills among students with
learning disabilities who have difficulty speech (Non Verbal) using PECS (Picture
Exchance Communication System) in a single sentence building skills. A special
education students with learning disabilities to Year 4 have been sampled in this study.
The focus of the study was to examine the effectiveness of the use of PECS methods
used to overcome to build a single verse in students who have difficulty speech (Non
Verbal). An initial review found that students who have speech problems often get poor
results in the examinations. The intervention was carried out by applying the use of
PECS use in teaching and learning process conducted over 3 weeks. Data were
collected through structured observations, interviews, pre-test and post-test. The results
of data analysis found that study subjects showed improvement in the skill build a single
paragraph after the intervention carried out. It is expected that through this study
researchers suggest in the next study skills can build a single paragraph examining and
understanding to construct compound sentences in helping students with problems.
