Derivatives

Derivatives adalah pola kata jadian atau kata yang berasal dari kata lain atau dari pangkal
atau dasar kata kerja atau sifat dan sebagainya. Mengubah satu kata kedalam kata jadiannya
dengan menambahkan partikel pada kata tersebut. partikel yang ditambahkan disebut afixes
(imbuhan) yang meliputi imbuhan di depan (prefix) dan atau belakang (suffix).dalam bahasa
Inggris tidak mengenal imbuhan di tengah (infix).
Aturan umum dalam derivatives:

A. Untuk kata benda:

1. Setelah determiners: kata atw kelompok kata yg d t4 kan di….(a, the, my, our, his, your,
this, that, those, some, each etc.)
Example:
We must carry out our development. (Kita harus melaksanakan pembangunan kita.)

2. Pola pembentukan kata benda:

a. –ion, -tion
Example:
collection (koleksi), confusion (kebingungan), correction (koreksi).

b. –ment
Example:
agreement (perjanjian), development (pengembangan).
c. –age
Example:
carriage (pengangkutan), package (paket).

B. Untuk kata sifat, ciri-cirinya:

1. Setelah kata: very, so, quite, too, more, most.
Example:
The ball is so expensive. (Bola begitu mahal.)

2. Menggunakan akhiran:
a. –ive
Example:
imaginative (imajinatif), creative (kreatif).
b. –ous
Example:
dangerous (berbahaya), suspicious (curiga).
c. –ful
Example:
beautiful (indah), powerful (kuat).

C. Untuk kata kerja, ciri-cirinya:

1. Menggunakan awalan
a. En-
Example:
enlarge (memperbesar), enrich (memperkaya).
2. Menggunakan akhiran
a. –ze, -ize
Example:
Apologize (Minta Maff)
b. –en
Example:
Lengthen (Memperpanjang), frighten (menakut-nakuti).
c. –fy, -ify
Example:
classify (mengklasifikasikan), solidarity (solidaritas), terrify (menakut-nakuti).
d. –ed, -ing
Example:
cleaned (dibersihkan), cleaning (membersihkan), studied (belajar), studying (belajar).

D. Untuk kata keterangan, gunanya untuk menerangkan kata kerja.

Example:
· He walks carefully. (Dia berjalan dengan hati-hati.)
· He carefully ran away. (Dia hati-hati melarikan diri.)
· Everyday, I woke up early. (Setiap hari, saya bangun pagi.)

in + form = inform (menginformasikan)
form + at = format (format)
form + al = formal (resmi)
in + form + al = informal (tidak resmi)
in + form + an = informan (informan)
in + form + tion = information (informasi)
form + ality = formality (formalitas)
in + form + ality = informality (informalitas)
form + ula = formula (rumus)
re + form = reform (reformasi)
re + form + ation = reformation (reformasi)
re + form + ist = reformist (reformist)
form + tion = Formation (formasi)
form + er = Former (mantan)
form + al + ize = formalize (memformalkan)
de + form = deform (cacad)
form + at + ive = Formative (formatif)
trans + form = transform (mengubah)
trans + form +tion = transformation (transformasi)
