 Definisi: Suggestion atau saran adalah sesuatu yang digunakan untuk memberikan jalan
keluar/solusi/saran kepada orang lain.

Suggestions dapat digunakan dalam bentuk saran, solusi, rencana dan ide.
Untuk memberikan saran (suggestions) dalam Bahasa Inggris kita dapat menggunakan
“should” dan “should not”.
a. Should
Should digunakan untuk memberikan saran (suggestions).
Pattern:
S + should + V1
S + Should be + Adjective/noun/adverb
Contoh:
1. Susi should drink medicine to get well soon.
2. You should be calm in the classroom.
3. Irman should not eat sweet and hot food.
4. You should bring your dictionary. English is the third lesson.
5. I should not leave her alone.
6. Should Gibran do the homework? Yes, he should. No, he should not.
7. Should we go to the beach? Yes, we should. No, we should not.
Note: Untuk membentuk kalimat negatif kita menambahkan –not setelah should.
Untuk membentuk kalimat tanya kita letakkan should di depan kalimat.
Contoh Dialog Suggestion:
Yanuar : San, Why don’t you join us to do Math homework?
Santi : Sorry Yan, I have a toothache.
Yanuar : Really? You should go to dentist, San.
Santi : I am afraid
Yanuar : It will be better that you feel it for days and weeks.
Santi : I’ll try. I hope it won’t hurt a lot. Thanks Yan.
Yanuar : Your welcome. I hope you will get better soon.

b. Let's go the library. (Ayo ke perpustakaan)
c. We could eat at home today. (Lita dapat makan di rumah hari ini)
d. What about eating at new place? (Bagaimana tentang makan di tempat yang baru)
e. I think you should go and meet her. (Saya pikir kamu harus pergi dan bertemu dengan
dia)
Selain beberapa ungkapan dalam memberikan saran atau suggestions, akan di pelajari
tanggapan atau respond dalam memberikan sebuah saran karena kemungkinan orang
tersebut menolak atau menerima saran.
Agreeing Respond Suggestions:
Yes, it’s a great idea. (Ya, ini ide bagus)
I agree with you. (Saya setuju dengan mu)
That sounds great. (Kedengarannya ide bagus)
Yes, let’s do that/it. (Ya, ayo kita lakukan)
I think so. (Saya sependapat)
OK! (Ok!)
That’s right. (Ya itu benar)
 Declining Respond Suggestions:
No, I don’t think so. (Tidak, saya tidak sependapat tentang itu)
I disagree with you. (Saya tidak setuju dengan mu)
That’s not a good idea. (Itu bukan ide yang baik)
I understand your point, but I think…. (Saya mengerti pendapatmu, tapi menurutku……)

 Nomina singular dan plural dengan atau tanpa a, the, this, those, my, their, dsb.
 Ucapan, tekanan kata, intonasi, ejaan, tanda baca, dan tulisan tangan.

Anton : I have a serious problem today. I have just lost my wallet.
Beny : Really? Where did you lose it?
Anton : Hmm… Maybe in the park.
Beny : I think you should be more careful with your belongings.
Anton : Yeah, I think so. This is my fault.
Beny : Don’t be sad Anton. I hope you can find it really soon.
Anton : Thank you, Beny. Do you have any suggestion for me?
Beny : If I may suggest, you should go to the park and look for it more detail.
Anton : I have looked for it for hours but I did not find it. Do you have another suggestion?
Beny : Hmm… You would better tell the securities to help you to find it and also
announce it to the visitors.
Anton : Yeah you are right. I will try it. Thank you for your suggestions.
Beny : You are welcome Anton. Next time, it is better for you to keep your important
stuffs in a safe place.
