Greeeting is a basic expression in communication and used to open a conversation. It will not
only show our respect to others but also show our sincerity with others. So, the correct way off
greeting people is very important. In this chapter, we will learn more about greeting and other
basic expressions in communication. Pay attention to the material below!
A. Introducing and Greeting
1. Introducing
Introduction is an important part in everyday conversation. So, when you meet someone new, you have
to introduce yourself properly.
Here are some expressions you can use to introduce yourself.
Introducing Yourself
Hello, my name is ….
Hello, I’m ….
Let me introduce myself, my name is ….
Good morning. May I introduce myself? My name is ….

If you want to introduce other people to someone, you may do so by using the following expressions.

2. Greeting
Greeting is something that is said or done to show that you are happy to meet or welcome others. The
common greeting phrase is “hello, how are you?”
Here are some expressions you can use to greet people.

*Important note: when someone says, “How do you do?”, it is not really a question, its meaning is
similar to “Hello”.

happening around you. There are various ways of saying “thanks”.
Here are some expressions you can use to thank people:

D. Apologizing
The expressions of apology are used to tell someone that you are sorry for having done something that
has caused problems for others.
Here are some expressions you can use to apologize:
