Ilmu Sosial Dasar adalah pengetahuan yang
menelaah masalah-masalah sosial, khususnya
masalahmasalah yang diwujudkan oleh masyarakat
Indonesia,
dengan menggunakan pengertian-pengertian (fakta, konsep,
teori) yang berasal dari berbagai bidang pengetahuan
keahlian dalam lapangan ilmu-ilmu sosial (seperti geografi
sosial, sosiologi, antropologi sosial, ilmu politik, ekonomi,
psikologi sosial, dan sejarah).

Ilmu Sosial Dasar (IBD) merupakan mata kuliah
umum (MKU) yang mempunyai peranan jelas dalam
pembentukan kompetensi profesional seorang lulusan
perguruan tinggi. Mata Kuliah Umum di perguruan tinggi di
Inodensia, dikelompok-kan menjadi dua bagian. Kelompok
pertama diharapkan memberi dasar pedoman-pedoman untuk
bertindak sebagai warga negara yang terpelajar, yang
meliputi mata kuliah :
1. Pendidikan Agama
2. Pendidikan Pancasila
3. Kewiraan
TUJUAN ILMU SOSIAL DASAR
Pada prinsipnya Ilmu Sosial Dasar adalah membantu
perkembangan wawasan penalaran dan kepribadian
mahasiswa agar memperoleh wawasan penalaran dan
kepribadian mahasiswa agar memperoleh wawasan yang
lebih luas dan ciri-ciri kepribadian yang diharapkan dari
sikap mahasiswa, khususnya berkenaan dengan sikap dan
tingkah laku manusia dalam menghadapi manusia-manusia
lain, serta sikap dan tingkah laku manusia-manusia lain,
terhadap manusia yang bersangkutan secara timbal balik
Tujuan umum diselenggarakannya mata kuliah Ilmu
Sosial Dasar (ISD) ialah pembentukan dan pengembangan
kepribadian serta perluasan wawasan perhatian,
pengetahuan, pemikiran mengenai berbagai gejala-gejala
yang ada dan timbul dalam lingkungan, khususnya gejalagejala
berkenaan dengan masyarakat dan orang lain, agar
daya tanggap, persepsi, dan penalaran yang berkenaan
dengan lingkungan sosial dapat dipertajam.
LATAR BELAKANG
Banyak kritik yang ditujukan kepada sistem
pendidikan diperguruan tinggi oleh sejumlah cendikiawan,
terutama sarjana pendidikan sosial dan kebudayan. Mereka
menganggap sistem pendidikan yang sedang berlangsung ini
merupakan warisan sistem pendidikan pemerintah Belanda
yaitu kelanjutan “politik balas budi” yang bertujuan
menghasilkan tenaga-tenaga terampil untuk menjadi
tukangtukang yang mengisi birokrasi mereka dibidang
administrasi,
pedagang, teknik dan keahlian lain dalam tujuan eksploitasi
kekayaan mereka
RUANG LINGKUP
Pelajaran Ilmu Sosial Dasar (ISD) dapat dibedakan
menjadi tiga golongan yaitu :
1. Adanya berbagai aspek pada kenyataan-kenyataan yang
bersama-sama merupkan suatu masalah sosial, sehingga
biasanya suatu masalah sosial bisa ditanggapi dengan
pendekatan yang berbeda-beda sebagai pendekatan tersendiri maupun
gabungan (antarbidang).
2. Adanya beraneka ragam dan kesatuan sosial dalam
masyarakat yang masing-masing mempunyai
kepentingan serta kebutuhan serta pola-pola pemikiran
dan pola-pola tingkah laku tersendiri, tetapi juga adanya
banyak persamaan kepentingan serta pola-pola pemikiran

masyarakat
dalam berbagai kenyataan sosial yang antara satu
dengan
lainnya saling berkaitan.
