 Latar Belakang
PT Timah Tbk adalah perusahaan negara hanya aktif di pertambangan timah.
Keunggulan kompetitif Timah merupakan hasil integrasi dari setiap langkah
dalam proses produksi dan pemasaran timah. Perusahaan ini adalah pemimpin
biaya. Kontrol atas cadangan besar, kepemilikan armada mengeruk terbesar di dunia
dan penggunaan sistem komputer dan komunikasi satelit membantu untuk
meminimalkan biaya Timah pertambangan. Penggunaan sistem produksi Timah yang
memastikan operasi peleburan yang sangat efisien. Hasil diklaim oleh manajemen
adalah bahwa PT Timah pelanggan menerima timah diseluruh dunia kualitas tertinggi
yang tersedia. Perusahaan mengadakan eksplorasi timah dan hak penambangan
hingga 2025 lebih dari 10.000 kilometer persegi yang tersebar di beberapa pulau
dandaerah lepas pantai di Laut Jawa. Timah telah dijamin hak untuk eksplorasi emas
di Sumatera Utara, Kalimantan dan Jawa. Hak-hak ini diperpanjang lebih dari27.000
kilometer persegi. Bahkan setelah sejarah panjang usaha pertambangan timah,
sebagian besar hak-hak pertambangan Timah adalah sebagai belum tereksplorasi dan
belum dimanfaatkan. Masa depan tampaknya memiliki potensi besar untuk
pertambangan lebih lanjut.
