Goal Setting Theory
Goal setting theory dikemukakan oleh Edwin Locke, 1968. Teori ini menjelaskan hubungan antara tujuan yang

ditetapkan dengan prestasi kerja (kinerja). Konsep dasar teori ini adalah seseorang yang memahami tujuan (apa

yang diharapkan kelompok kepadanya) akan mempengaruhi perilaku kerjanya. Teori ini mengasumsikan bahwa

faktor utama yang memengaruhi pilihan yang dibuat individu adalah tujuan yang mereka miliki. Goal setting

theory telah menunjukkan adanya pengaruh signifikan dalam perumusan tujuan. Kekhususan dan kesulitan

merupakan atribut dari penetapan tujuan. Umumnya, semakin sulit dan spesifik tujuan yang ditetapkan, semakin

tinggi tingkat prestasi yang akan dihasilkan. Goal setting theory atau teori penetapan tujuan adalah proses kognitif

membangun tujuan dan merupakan determinan perilaku

 Pengertian
goal setting adalah proses bagaimana kamu menentukan tujuan tersebut dan
bagaimana cara mencapainya Dalam bahasa Indonesia, goal setting disebut juga
sebagai proses penetapan tujuan

Karena, Goal-setting dapat membantu memahami kinerja

dan menilai langkah apa yang perlu Anda ambil untuk
mencapai tingkat kinerja yang Anda inginkan
 Unsur – unsur dalam Goal Setting
1. Specific
Tujuan yang diinginkan harus spesifik. Mengapa mengingikannya, bagaimana mendapatkannya,
kapan waktu untuk menjalankanya.

2. Measurable
Tujuan yang diinginkannya masih dalam batas

3. Achivable
Harus aktif untuk mencapai tujuan yang diharapkan.

4. Realistic
Tujuan harus realistis sesuai dengan situasi dan kemampuan.

5. Time
Rentang waktu yang jelas dalam pencapaian keinginan tersebut.
 Mengacu pada Locke’s Model, goal setting theory atau teori penetapan
tujuan mempunyai empat mekanisme dalam memotivasi individu untuk
mencapai kinerja

Pertama, penetapan tujuan dapat mengarahkan perhatian individu untuk lebih fokus pada
pencapaian tujuan tersebut.

Kedua, tujuan dapat membantu mengatur usaha yang diberikan oleh individu untuk mencapai
tujuan.

Ketiga, adanya tujuan dapat meningkatkan ketekunan individu dalam mencapai tujuan tersebut.

Keempat, tujuan membantu individu untuk menetapkan strategi dan melakukan tindakan sesuai
yang direncanakan.

Dengan demikian, dengan adanya penetapan tujuan dapat meningkatkan kinerja individu
