OBJECT OF PREPOSITION
OBJECT OF A PREPOSITION
An object of a preposition adalah noun
(kata benda) atau pronoun (kata ganti)
yang terletak setelah preposition (kata
depan), seperti in, at, of to, by, behind,
dan on yang befungsi membentuk
sebuah prepositional phrase.

 PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE
Prepositional phrase merupakan gabungan dari dua kata atau
lebih yang memberikan keterangan mengenai tempat, waktu,
atau kondisi. Frase ini biasanya diawali oleh preposisi dan
diikuti oleh object of preposition. Object of prepostion bisa
berbentuk kata benda, kata ganti, atau juga kata benda. Untuk
lebih jelasnya, kamu bisa melihat pola kalimat yang memiliki
frase ini:

 Preposition + Noun, Pronoun, Gerund, or Clause

 Preposition + Modifier(s) + Noun, Pronoun, Gerund, or
Clause
Bagaimana jika diaplikasikan dalam sebuah
kalimat?

 I will sleep all day long at home.

At dalam kalimat di samping merupakan preposisi
atau preposition sedangkan home merupakan noun.

 I got it from my mom.

Dalam contoh ini, from my mom adalah sebuah
prepostion phrase. From merupakan preposisi dan
my mom merupakan noun.
Berfungsi sebagai adverb yang menerangkan verb atau
kata kerja.

Contoh:
She will go in the evening. (dia akan pergi nanti
malam)
Nina and Nino stay in Bali since three years ago. (Nina
dan Nino menetap di Bali sejak tiga tahun yang lalu)
They went to Vancouver. (Mereka pergi ke Vancouver)
Alfio studied in Korean University. (Alfio pernah kuliah
di Universitas Korea)
Without a map, I will lose my way. (Tanpa peta, aku
bisa tersesat)
Contoh:
To Mike ____ was a big surprise.

(A) really Object of Preposition

(C) funny (TO + Noun/Pronoun)
(D) when

Analisa:
Dari kalimat diatas, harus dipahami bahwa Mike (noun) bukalah
Subject tapi object of preposition dari To.
Subject dari kalimat diatas tidak ada, sedangkan Verbnya adalah was.
Karena yang dibutuhkan adalah Subject, maka jawaban terbaik
adalah (B), the party. Sedangkan (A), (C), dan (D) salah karena
mereka bukanlah Subject.

Dalam contoh ini Anda harus mencari subjek dan kata kerja terlebih
dahulu. Anda harus memperhatikan kata kerja yang ditemukan dan juga
harus memperhatikan bahwa tidak ada subjek. Jangan berpikir bahwa
teman adalah subjek; teman adalah objek preposisi dengan, dan satu
kata benda tidak bisa menjadi subjek sekaligus objek sekaligus. Karena
subjek diperlukan dalam kalimat ini, jawaban (B), dia, adalah jawaban
terbaik. Jawaban (A), (C), dan (D) tidak benar karena mereka tidak bisa
menjadi subjek.
Contoh Kalimat:
1.Last week, Nana and I went to the
movie with Nana’s boyfriend
2.At my school, the students who get the
low score in the exam will be trained to
pass the next exam.
3.Anjasmara and Jihan Fahira is husband
and wife in the drama.
The name of the girl in the class is
Jeanna

Analisis: The class bukanlah sebuah subjek

tetapi sebagai object of preposition dari kata
in.
Sedangkan subjeknya adalah Name of the girl
dan Verbnya adalah Is
By the next meeting of the English class need to
turn in the essay

Analisis: Kata the English class bukan merupakan

sebuah subjek tetapi sebagai object of preposition
dari Of. Sementaraitu, kalimat diatas tidak
mempunyai subjek tetapi memiliki verb yaitu need
to turn. Kalimat yang benar darikalimat diatas
adalah by the next meeting of the English class
we need to turn in the essay.
By the next meeting of the English class need to
turn in the essay

Analisis: Kata the English class bukan merupakan

sebuah subjek tetapi sebagai object of preposition
dari Of. Sementaraitu, kalimat diatas tidak
mempunyai subjek tetapi memiliki verb yaitu need
to turn. Kalimat yang benar darikalimat diatas
adalah by the next meeting of the English class
we need to turn in the essay.
