Tense
 Introduction
Present Continuous Tense merupakan tense yang menunjuk
pada aktivitas yang sedang berlangsung saat ini atau
ketika pembicaraan itu sedang berlangsung.
 Adverb of Time

Keterangan waktu (adverb of time) yang sering digunakan

dalam Present Continuous Tense :
• now
• right now
• nowadays
• at the moment
• today
• This …. (morning, afternoon, evening)
 Formula
S + be + V-ing
Positive Example:
Sentences a. I am cooking in the kitchen now
b. She is doing her homework now

S + be + not + V-ing
Negative Example:
Sentence a. I am not cooking in the kitchen now
b. She is not doing her homework now

be + S + V-ing + ? *Note for “be”:

Interrogative Example: I  “am”
Sentences a. Am I cooking in the kitchen now? You, We, They  “are”
b. Is she doing her homework now? He, She, It  “is”
1. Present Continuous untuk aktivitas
yang terjadi saat ini
a. Untuk aktivitas yang terjadi tepat saat ini.
Contoh: The candle is burning.
b. Untuk aktivitas yang terjadi sekitar saat ini.
Contoh:
• Aurel is learning to drive.
• I am living with my sister until I find an apartment.
II. Present Continuous untuk masa depan
Kita hanya menggunakan Present Continuous Tense untuk
berbicara tentang masa depan ketika kita sudah merencanakan
melakukan sesuatu sebelum kita berbicara.
Contoh:
 I am having my exam next month.
 We are eating at Joe’s Café tomorrow.
 Penggunaan V-ing
1. Hanya menambahkan –ing setelah verb dasar
• Work – working Play - playing

2. Verb yang di akhiri huruf “e”

• Invite – inviting
• Move – moving

3. Verb diakhiri CVC (Consonant, Vowel, Cosonant)  ada penekanan di

akhir suku kata
• Cut – cutting *Note
• Begin - beginning Vowel  huruf vocal “a, i, u, e, o”
Consonant  selain huruf vokal
4. Verb diakhiri huruf “w”, “x”, “y”
• Destroy – destroying
• Relax – relaxing

5. Verb diakhiri “ie” Vowel  huruf vocal “a, i, u, e, o”
• Tie – tying Consonant  selain huruf vokal
• Die – dying

6. Verb diakhiri CV+L (Consonant, Vowel + huruf “L”)

• Equal – equalling
• Control - controlling
