Fireflies are flying insects from the family Lampyridae and order Coleoptera (the

emit bioluminescence light. Most of them are nocturnal. There are around 2,000 species
of fireflies in the world, and they can be found in tropical regions. They tend to live in

hardened, and they form a wing-case covering their hindwings and their bodies. Most of
them have the ability to fly, but some females of certain species are unable to do so.
They have a large head with two large eyes on it. Two long antennas are located
between their eyes. They have six legs, and all of them are located on their thorax. Their
abdomen is divided into some sections, and the light-emitting organs are located here.

Once upon a time, there was a good old woman who lived in a little house. She
had a bed of beautiful striped tulips in her garden.
One night, she was wakened by the sounds of sweet singing and babies
laughing. She looked out at the window. The sounds seemed to come from the tulip
bed, but she could see nothing. On the next morning, she walked among her flowers,
but there was no sign of any one having been there the night before.
On the following night, she was again wakened by sweet singing and babies
laughing. She rose and stole softly through her garden. The moon was shining brightly
on the tulip bed, and the flowers were swaying to and fro. The old woman looked
closely, and she saw, standing by each tulip, a little fairy mother who was crooning and
rocking the flower like a cradle, while in each tulip-cup laid a little fairy baby laughing
and playing.
The good old woman stole quietly back to her house, and from that time on, she
never picked a tulip, nor did she allow her neighbors to touch the flowers. The tulips
grew daily brighter in color and larger in size, and they gave out a delicious perfume like
that of roses. They began, too, to bloom all the year round, and every night the little fairy
mothers caressed their babies and rocked them to sleep in the flower-cups.
The day came when the good old woman died, and the tulip-bed was torn up by
folks who did not know about the fairies. The parsley was planted there instead of the
flowers, but it withered, and so did all the other plants in the garden. From that time,
nothing would grow there.

‘cause here it comes it's a light, a beautiful light, over the horizon in to your eyes.
Oh, my my how beautiful, oh my beautiful mother,
She told me, "Son, in life you're gonna go far, if you do it right you'll love where you are.
Just know that wherever you go, you can always come home."

240 thousand miles from the moon, you've come a long way to belong here,
to share this view of the night, a glorious night, over the horizon is another bright sky.
Oh, my my how beautiful, oh my irrefutable father,

Just know, you're never alone, you can always come back home."

II. ESSAY

The following text is for question no. 46.

A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection,
refraction, and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light
appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Rainbows caused
by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun.
Rainbows can be full circles. However, the observer normally sees only an arc
formed by illuminated droplets above the ground, and centered on a line from the sun to
the observer's eye.
In a primary rainbow, the arc shows red on the outer part and violet on the inner
side. This rainbow is caused by light being refracted when entering a droplet of water,
then reflected inside on the back of the droplet and refracted again when leaving it.
In a double rainbow, a second arc is seen outside the primary arc, and has the
order of its colours reversed, with red on the inner side of the arc. This is caused by the
light being reflected twice on the inside of the droplet before leaving it.

46. Read the text carefully, and answer the questions.

a. What is the writer’s purpose of writing the text?
b. Why does the arc show red on the inner side of the arc in a double rainbow?

house. The Crow flew down to the jug. She locked inside. There was a little water at the
bottom of the jug.
The Crow flew down to the jug again, but she could not reach the water with her
beak. She climbed onto the jug. She almost fell into it, but she could not put her beak
into the water.
The Crow flew into the air, then she flew down at the jug and tried to break it with

flapping her wings. She tried to knock it over so that the water would run out onto the
ground, but the jug was too heavy. It did not fall over. The Crow was too tired to fly
anymore. She thought she would die of thirst. The Crow sat down to rest. She thought,
and she thought. She did not want to die of thirst.
