Definition of Procedure Text

Procedure text is a piece of text that give us instructions for doing something.”

Procedure text adalah sebuah teks yang memberikan kita perintah atau instruksi untuk
melakukan sesuatu.

“Procedure text  is a text that is designed to describe how something is achieved through a
sequence of actions or steps.”

Procedure text adalah teks yang dirancang untuk menggambarkan bagaimana sesuatu dicapai
melalui urutan tindakan atau langkah-langkah.

Jadi dapat disimpulkan disini, procedure text adalah jenis text yang bertujuan untuk
menggambarkan suatu perintah atau instruksi tentang bagaimana sesuatu dicapai sesuai urutan
atau langkah-langkah yang benar.

Dan biasanya judul procedure text diawali dengan “How to ….“. Contohnya misalnya seperti
“How to make a cup of tea” (Cara membuat secangkir tea), “How to Use the Computer” (Cara
menggunakan komputer), dan masih banyak lagi contoh lainnya.

The Types Of Procedure Text (Jenis-jenis Procedure Text)

Here are three types of procedural text that should you know,namely:
(Berikut ini ada 3 jenis procedure text yang harus anda ketahui yaitu:)

a. Procedural text that explain how do something or how to use an

instruction/operate manual , Example how to use cmputer,how to record
video,how to use plaroid camera
(Teks prosedur yang menjelaskan bagaimana sesuatu bekerja atau bagaimana
menggunakan sebush instuksi/mengoperasikan secara manual, example how to
record video,how to use plaroid camera)
 b. Procedural text that instructs how to do certain activities,example, how to make a
noodle, how to dance,how to play basketball
c. ( Teks prosedur yang menginstruksikan bagaimana melakukan aktivitas tertentu,
misalnya, how to make a noodle, how to dance, how to play basketball.)
Procedure text yang berhubungandenganperilakumanusia, misalnya, how to
succeed, how tolive happily, how to be a good person.

The purpose of the procedure text

– To explain/tell (the reader) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence of actions or
steps (Untuk menjelaskan / memberitahu pembaca bagaimana membuat/mengoperasikan/melakukan
sesuatu melalui serangkaian tindakan atau langkah).
– To explain steps/instruction to make/operate/do something (Untuk menjelaskan langkah-langkah/
intruksi-intruksi untuk membuat / mengoperasikan / melakukan sesuatu).

Generic structure of procedure

(Struktur umum)

Procedure text pada umumnya mempunyai beberapa struktur umum sebagai berikut:

 Goals/ aim (tujuan) : The final purpose of doing the instruction

(Pada bagian ini menerangkan tujuan dari aktivitas atau hal yang nantinya akan dilakukan
atau dibuat.Umumnya dalam procedure text, tujuan sudah dicantumkan pada judul atau
headline. Contohnya: How to Make Simple Fried Rice / Cara Membuat Nasi Goreng
Sederhana)

 Materials/ tools(bahan/alat) :in this section,it explains the materials and tools needed to
make an item or when doing one thing.
(Pada bagian ini menerangkan bahan dan juga alat yang diperlukan untuk membuat
sebuah barang atau ketika akan melakukan suatu hal).

 Materials (bahan) kita bisa menggunakan kata-kata seperti materials, tools,

atau ingredients ketikamenyebutkan apa saja yang diperlukan untuk
melakukan sebuah prosedur.
 Jika procedure text menyangkut tentang makanan ata uminuman, bias any
kita menyebutnya“ingredients”
 Sedangkan ketika menyangku tperalatan ataus ejenisnya, kita bisa
menggunakan“tools and materials”.

 Steps / methods (langkah-langkahataumetode) in this section,it explain Steps or ways a
series of steps oriented to achieving the goal

(Bagian in imenerangkan langkah atau cara untuk mencapai hasil atau tujuannya. Kita bisa
menggunakan urutan seperti first, second, third, dan seterusnya.Atau bisa juga menuliskan angka
sesuai urutannya.Kita juga bisa menggunakan kalimat penghubung seperti ,then (kemudian),
after (setelah), atau next (selanjutnya) dan lain-lain).

Di bagian ini, gunakan pula kalimat imperatif (kalimat perintah) di setiap langkahnya. Contoh:
1. Use the ruler to make a triangle on colored paper (Gunakan penggaris untuk membuat segitiga
pada kertas warna)
2. Cut the colored paper along the line ( Potong kertas warna sesuai garis)

 Conclusion/ result: Berisikan hasil akhir dari apa yang sudah kalian kerjakan sesuai
dengan serangkaian langkah yang sudah dilakukan.

Language Feature (Unsur Kebahasaan)

Berikut ini adalah beberapa unsur kebahasaan atau language feature dari Procedure Text, antara
lain:

1. UsingTemporal conjunction/adverb of sequence: kata hubung/kata keteranganwaktu.

(Contoh: Firs (pertama, second (kedua), third (ketiga), then (kemudian), next
(selanjutnya, finally (akhirnya)dll

2. Using command / Imperative sentence (Menggunakan kalimat perintah)

Ex:

- Letakkan mie di dalam (Put the noodles on the. . , )

- Potong bawang menjadi ( Cut the onion. . .,
- Cucilah tomat (wash the tomatoes. . , )

3. Using action verb (Menggunakan kata kerja aksi)

Ex :

- Make (Membuat)
- Take (Mengambil)
- Boil ( Merebus)
- Cook ( Memasak)

4. Using The Simple Present Tense (kata kerjabentuk present)

(Ex : Let’s follow these instructions.)

 Example of Procedure Text ( Contoh Teks Prosedur)

How to fried rice

Ingredients (bahan) :

 1 plate of cooked rice

 2 eggs
 1 teaspoon of salt
 2 medium onions, chopped
 1 cloves of garlic, chopped
 Chili powder (adjust based on your spicy level)
 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce
 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

Utensils (alat) :

 Frying pan
 Stove
 Spoon
 Spatula
 Plate

Steps of how to cook fried rice (Langkah-langkah bagaimana memasak nasi goreng)

1. Heat a medium frying pan and pour the vegetable oil.

2. After it’s heated enough, add the garlic, onion, and chili.
3. Stir-fry the ingredients until it’s tender.
4. Add the eggs and scramble it until half cooked.
5. Pour the cooked rice, then keep stir for a minute.
6. Next, add the seasoning such as the sauce, pepper, and salt, and mix them all with the
rice.
 7. After it’s well cooked, take the fried rice and serve on the plate.

Bahan:

 1 piring nasi
 2 telur
 1 sendok teh garam
 2 bawang merah ukuran sedang, cincang
 1 siung bawang putih, cincang
 Bubuk cabai (sesuaikan dengan tingkat kepedasanmu)
 1 sendok makan saus tomat
 1 sendok makan minyak sayur

Langkah Membuat Nasi Goreng Sederhana:

1. Panaskan penggorengan berukuran sedang dan masukkan minyak goreng.

2. Setelah cukup panas, tambahkan bawang putih, bawang merah, dan juga cabai.
3. Tumis bahan-bahan hingga empuk.
4. Tambahkan telur dan orak-arik hingga setengah matang.
5. Tambahkan nasi, dan terus aduk hingga beberapa saat.
6. Selanjutnya, tambahkan bumbu seperti saus, merica, dan garam, dan campur semua
dengan nasi.
7. Setelah matang, ambil nasi goreng dan sajikan di piring.
