1. a. (1) There are three types of surface water: perennial, ephemeral, and man-made.
b. (2) Perennial, or permanent, surface water persists throughout the year and is replenished with groundwater when
there is little precipitation. (3) Ephemeral, or semi-permanent, surface water exists for only part of the year.
Ephemeral surface water includes small creeks, lagoons, and water holes. (4) Man-made surface water is found
in artificial structures, such as dams and constructed wetlands. (the supporting details are sentences 2-4)
c. The statement is wrong. Because in the first paragraph the second sentence explains that "The ocean, despite
being saltwater, is also considered surface water."
d.On the other hand because the function of this conjunction is to tell the contrast of evaporation and water bodies.
3. a. Mr. Bone is back with some gifts such as chocolate bars, coke, biscuits, and other gifts for Katie and her friends.
Now Katie is the most popular girl in her class. She felt proud to be himself, and began to like Halloween.
b. Katie felt sad and insecure. Can be seen in the sentence “When Katie went home that day, she cried her eyes
out.” and “Everyone hates witches. And they especially hate them at Halloween.”
c. In sentence 2, expressing the fear of Mr. Bones who doesn't like small children. Seen in the sentence "...Mr.
Bones didn't like children." In sentence 3, expresses the children's fear of Mr. Bones who does not believe that
Katie is a real witch and underestimates them. Seen in the sentence "But one of us is a real witch," "and "Yes,
yes, Katie's a real witch," they all cried, But Mr. Bones just chuckled and laughed. In sentence 4, expressing the
fear of Mr. Bones told Katie who is a witch and now believed in him, so he was comforted and began to like
children. Seen in the sentence "He quickly went back inside the house, looking very bad."

d. ii. Katie joined her friends on a trick or treat tour of the street.
i. Katie and her friends arrived at Mr. Bones’ house.
iv. Mr. Bones refused to give treats to the children.
v. Katie recited the special spell taught by her mother.
iii. Mr. Bones turned into a hamster.
4. a. The narrator was disappointed that after two hours of hard work he had achieved little and was happy, and even
though he had proven himself to be right from Louise, it had nothing to do with Louise.
b. I grabbed the side of it and pulled it away. As it came free, I saw that it was a heavy piece of metal, but a dirty
brownishyellow. I picked it up and brushed the dirt off it. It weighed heavy in my hand. The sun caught it and it
glittered like—like gold. I raised it to the light of the sun and gazed at it.
c. Narrative text because it tells a series of events with a chronological system or interconnected.
d. That story made me feel that first, hard work and not giving up easily can bring good results. Because in the story
we can see the hard work of the narrator who doesn't give up even though he complains, he keeps digging and
unexpectedly finds gold. But, I also feel that this story depicts a human being who is never satisfied with
something. Because like Louise who was dissatisfied and told her husband to keep digging his garden to find
more gold.
