This is the instruction shown to the subjects before they retell the story.

Instruction
1. In a few minutes you will hear a story told in Indonesian twice while
looking at the pictures. In the pictures there are some things that are given
information in the red marker.
2. As long as you hearing the story, you are not allowed writing any note.
3. After hearing the story, you have to retell the story in English. Do not
forget to mention the things that are given information in the red marker
based on the story.
4. All of the things in the red marker have certain vocabulary in English.
5. Please imagine that I am (interviewer) a native speaker of English who
doesn’t know Indonesian at all.
6. Try to concentrate as well as possible and do the best.
7. After you retell the story, please do not tell anyone about this or keep it as
a secret, especially the story and the procedure.
8. Thank you very much for your willingness to help me doing my thesis.

APPENDIX II

This is the story that was used to collect the data. This story waps first told in
Indonesian. And then the writer translated it into English.

II.1. Sangkuriang
(Indonesian Version)

Ada seekor babi hutan atau yang biasa disebut celeng yang melahirkan
bayi perempuan karena minum air kencing raja dari batok kelapa. Bayi
perempuan itu bernama Dayang Sumbi. Setelah Dayang Sumbi dewasa, dia hamil
dan melahirkan bayi laki-laki yang bernama Sangkuriang.
Suatu hari Dayang Sumbi menyuruh anaknya mengambil busur dan panah
untuk berburu hati rusa dengan anjingnya Si Tumang. Dan Dayang Sumbi
mengambil alu dan lumpang untuk menumbuk padi. Setelah Sangkuriang pulang,
Dayang Sumbi menyiapkan makan malam dengan meletakkan hati itu diatas
selembar daun pisang dan nasi putih yang sudah dimassak di sebuah bakul nasi.
Setelah mereka selesai makan, Sangkuriang mengatakan bahwa hati itu bukan hati
rusa tapi hati anjingnya Si Tumang. Tentu saja Dayang Sumbi marah. Dia
memukul kepala anaknya dengan kendi hingga hilang ingatan sambil mengusir
Sangkuriang dari rumah.
Suatu hari mereka bertemu lagi. Tapi karena sangkuriang hilang ingatan,
begitu melihat Dayang Sumbi dia langsung jatuh cinta. Tentu saja Dayang Sumbi
tidak mau. Dia mengajukan 2 syarat yaitu membendung sungai Citarum dan
membuat sampan kecil yang harus selesai sebelum fajar tiba. Sangkuriang
berusaha sekuat tenaga dan hampir menyelesaikan syarat-syarat itu. Dayang
Sumbi tidak ingin Sangkuriang berhasil menyelesaikan. Dia kemudian berlari ke
tepi sungai dan mengibarkan lima selendang putih agar disangka bahwa fajar telah
tiba. Hal ini membuat Sangkuriang marah. Dia menendang sampan kecil sekuat
tenaga sehingga jatuh tertelungkup dan menjadi Gunung Tangkuban Perahu.
Akhirnya Sangkuriang sadar, dan mereka berdua hidup bahagia sebagai ibu dan
anak.

II.2. Sangkuriang
(English version)

There was a wild boar that gave birth to a female baby because of drinking
the king’s urine from the coconut shell. The baby girl’s name is Dayang Sumbi.
After dayang Sumbi was adult, she gave birth to a son, named Sangkuriang.
One day, Dayang Sumbi asked her son to take a bow and an arrow to hunt
the deer liver accompanied by his dog, si Tumang. And Dayang Sumbi took the
rice pestle and mortar to pound the rice. After Sangkuriang went home, Dayang
Sumbi prepared the dinner by putting the deer liver on the banana leaf and the rice
that had been cooked in the rice basket. After they finished eating, Sangkuriang
told that it was not the deer liver but the dog liver, si Tumang. Of course Dayang
Sumbi was angry. She hit her son’s head with the jar until he got amnesia while
expelling her son from home.
One day they met again. However, because of he got amnesia, when he
saw Dayang Sumbi he directly fell in love with her. Dayang Sumbi certainly did
not want it. She submitted two conditions; those were damming up the Citarum
river and making the small boat which had to be finished before the dawn came.
Sangkuriang tried to the utmost of his strength and almost finished those
conditions. Dayang Sumbi did not want Sangkuriang succeeded in finishing those
conditions. Then she ran to the edge of the river and displayed the five white
shawls in order to be thought that the dawn has come. This thing made
Sangkuriang got mad. He kicked the small boat as strong as possible so that it
faced down and became Mount Tangkuban Perahu. Finally Sangkuriang regained
consciousness, and both of them lived happily as a mother and a son.

The Transcription of the Good Students of Speaking VI

Subject no. 1
One day there was a celeng, a wild pig that give birth to a baby girl because it had drunk … the
king’s urine in the coconut skin and … then the girl became uh <tape stopped> and then the girl
grow up and became pregnant and he, and she give birth to a baby boy names Sangkuriang. One
day she ask her son to uh look for the deer’s heart deer’s liver and to take some archers and some
arrows and accompanied by the dog si Simatupang <tape stopped> <laugh> eh salah with the dog
si Tumang!.after and then uh she use the long stick and a big big wood to make the rice. And then
after Sangkuriang arrive uh she … she … prepare the rice on the rice bowl and she put the deer’s
liver on the banana leaf and after they were having dinner, Sangkuriang told her his mother that it
was si Tumang’s liver. Then she became angry and hit her her son’s head with the vessel and so
that he became he get he got amnesia. When he become amnesia <tape stopped> <laugh>. One
day when they meet they met again, he /f/ fell in love with his mother but because he was amnesia,
he could not remember it. Uh and … he insisted on in loving his mother so that her mother ask
him to to full to <tape stopped> to meet by doing two things. The first thing was to stop the river
Citarum and the second to was to make the small boat or called sampan before the sun rise. And
Sangkuriang work very hard for doing that and after he had finished eh before he had finished, /s/
Dayng Sumbi uh went to the river bank the river’s bank and and waved five white long clothes so
that it looked like uhm uh /th/ it it looked like the sun rise. Knowing that, sangkuriang became
angry and kick the small boat and it become until it felt down and become mount Tangkuban
Perahu and … and then he … he … get he got his mind again and he remember that she was her
his mother and then they live happily ever after as a mother and a son.

Subject no. 2
One day uh a daughter was born from the wild pig because of uh because the wild pig uh was
drinking the urine from the king in the coconut <tape stopped>. Ga apa ta aku ngomong coconut
tok? Her name is Dayang Sumbi. After she grown up uh she she she was pregnant and has uh a
son name uh Sangkuriang. One day Dayang Sumbi ask Sangkururiang to to to find for a for a lever
uh deer /lever/ accompanied by si Tumang, his her dog. Uh she ask Sangkuriang to bring arrow
and <tape stopped> <laugh> busur itu apa ya? Aduh aku lali uhm uh she ask Sangkuriang to bring
arrow and uh and all the equipment while she she was uh bringing uh stool to to hit the rice in a
place. Then Sangkuriang went to the forest. At night uh Dayang Sumbi prepared food, prepared
dinner for herself and her son. After they eating the dinner, Sangkuriang told the uh told Dayang
Sumbi that there is not uh that the lever is not was not from the deer but it it it was from si
Tumang’s lever, her dog, her dog. Therefore Dayang Sumbi was very angry and uhm uh hit
Sangkuring’s head with the … water pot. <tape stopped> aku lupa nyebutno bakul nasi ini
ya’apa? Langs ung tak sebut nyiapno nasi di bakul nasi ya? Beside deer’s lever, Dayang Sumbi
also prepare rice in the rice place. Because of the because of Dayang Sumbi uh hit Da eh
Sangkuriang became amnesia, he forgot everything. One day he met Sangku eh he met Dayang eh
Sangkuriang met Dayang Sumbi. Because of his amnesia, he forgot that Dayang Sumbi was her
mother. Therefore he fall he fell in love with Dayang Sumbi. Because Dayang Sumbi know that
Sangkuriang was her /daugh/ eh her son, /s/ eh Dayang Sumbi disagree with the … Sangkuriang
uh request. Therefore she ask Sangkuriang to … two conditions. The first of all uh Sangkuriang
has to stop the the Citarum’s river and then second he had to make uh a small boat for her.
Sangkuriang did all of the conditions very well, and /be/ when Dayang Sumbi saw that
Sangkuriang almost succeed, uh she … she run … she run to the edge of the river and uh throw
five clothes and to uh as a sign to that there is down.. uh Sangkuriang was very angry and uhm…
and kick the small boat into the river and the small boat become Tangkuban Perahu mountain and
… after a while Sangkuriang was realize that he is a son of Dayang Sumbi and both of them live
happily ever after.

Subject no. 3
There was a story uh folk story, it’s the story is about S . it tells that once upon a time, there was a
mmm wild boar which is giving birth uh girl name Dayang Sumbi after he drank an king urine in
the coconut shell. After the baby is become a woman, she gave birth a son. His name is
Sangkuriang.one day he told Sangkuriang to hunt a deer’s liver and told him to pick an arrow and
bow, while she is waiting, she also tells Sangkuriang to go with uh their dog. At that time, Dayang
Sumbi is grinding the rice with lumpang and alu. After a while, Sangkuriang came back at home
and Dayang Sumbi is already prepare for the dish, and he put deer liver and in a coconut leaf eh
banana leaf and put bowl of rice. But before they have the uh before they eat the liver, S told that
the liver is not from a deer but instead from their own dog. Hearing that statement, D S furious and
smash his son head with a pottery. And then S has lost his memory. And one day they eventually
met together and because S is lost his memory, he is falling in love to D S, her own mother. But D
S reject the proposal because he don’t want because S is urging her, he give two conditions by a
request which is S has to fence the Citarum river and made uh one little boat before the sun rise.
And his effort is going to be succeed but D S don’t want him to complete his request and he have
an idea by uh flecking five white uhm white cotton in the air and that … that might be S will think
that is already sun rise. D S is doing like that, Sangkuriang is furious and he kick the boat and it
fell in the ground and it become a mountain Tangkuban Perahu. But afterward, S memory is regain
and he can remember that D S is her his own mother then they live happily ever after as a son as a
mother.

Subject no. 4
Long long time ago, there was a pig who gave birth to a female baby because the pig drank from
uh coconut uh what do you call that? Uh the skin uh coconut skin which contains the p of the king
at that time. The female baby was named Dayang Sumbi. And then uh Dayang Sumbi also gives
birth to a male baby named Sangkuriang. Uh after Sangkuriang was in his adultery, Dayang Sumbi
asked him to go to uh hunt for some deers and she gave him a bow and an arrow while she is
preparing for the food. Uh she … she told Sangkuriang to go with their dog whose name is
Tumang. And then Dayang Sumbi prepare the food by uh doing something with the rice with their
own traditional things, I don’t know the names. So after preparing the food, sangkuriang came
home and he brought the liver of the deer. And the liver was cook by Dayang Sumbi and it was
served on banana leaf. Next toward, there was a rice bowl made of wood. But then after eating
the deer liver, Sangkuriang told Dayang Sumbi that the liver was not actually the deer liver but it
was their dog, Tumang. And so .. somehow the bad news, Dayang Sumbi became very angry and
she hit her son’s head with uh uh water case made of clay until Sangkuriang lost his memory
until he had amnesia. After having his amnesia, uh several years afterwards, Sangkuriang met
Dayang Sumbi again and he instantly felt in love with his mother. But of course he didn’t that it
was his mother. Knowing the fact, Dayang Sumbi didn’t want to accept Sangkuriang’s love
because she knew that it was … he was her son. But Sangkuriang insisted but Dayang Sumbi
could not resist. So, she gave Sangkuriang three uh three conditions that he had to stop the flow of
the Citarum river and then made a small boat and two of which had to be done in one night before
does. Sangkuriang tried as hard as he could to complete this task before the deadline but on the
other hand, Dayang Sumbi didn’t want him to succeed because uh she didn’t want to marry her
own son. So she cheated on him, she made uh she took five white uh linens and made it as if it
was does already to fool Sangkuriang as she told him that the deadline has passed and your task
have not uh your task were not completed yet. So, Sangkuriang was very angry because he felt that
he was cheated, he kick the boat until it was upside down. But then Sangkuriang regain his
memory and realize that it was his own mother. Afterwards, mother and son live happily ever
after.

Subject no. 5
Uh this is a story about Sangkuriang … and the story was begun by the … uh the Dayang Sumbi.
Dayang Sumbi was born from celeng, celeng is kind of pig but it live in jungle and because of
the pig drank the usrine of a king in the batok kelapa, batok kelapa is a kind of coconut shell and
then the celeng is pregnant and Dayang Sambi uh was born. Uh … and then Dayang sumbi…
growns up and … she is pregnant and she uh she s he bore… a boy name Sangkuriang. One day
Sangkuriang uh was told to hunt and he brought… uh and archery…equipment a arrow and
the…the..the equipment and the uh he like to hunt a deer. While as dayang Sumbi is … uh is

going to make … uh is going to make uh rice.she use alu alu and lumpang. Alu is a kind of uh …
a kind of … uh stick and … it, it is used to crash the the the the rice sheet at at uh at uh at a
tool named lumpang. Lumpang is made from uh kind of stone uh it is the place where the rice
put there and then the rice is crashed by alu. Dayang Sumbi is uh doing this with her dog
named si Tumang. And after they finish uh their job, Sangkuriang … brings the ehart deer to … to
Dayang Sumbi and Dayang Sumbi prepare the rice at uh … at a…at a thing name bak ul nasi.
Bakul nasi is a kind of a bas basket uh … but it is use usually to to to store rice. And tehn they
go eating together. After they finish eating their food, Sangkuriang told that actually it is not a a
deer heart but it is actually si Tumang heart. Knowing that fact, Dayang Sumbi became angry and
then he … he crashed kendi, kendi is kind of pottery which is made from clay and she hit to
Sangkuriang’s head. Sangkuriang lost his memory and he he forgot anything. And one day they
met, uh they met again, and because of his losing memory sangkuriang uh became attracted to
Dayang Sumbi and he wanted to marry Dayang Sumbi. Of course Dayang Sumbi refuse him and
but Sangkuriang try to uh force her. Due toof days, dayang Sumbi made some requirements so
sangkuriang cannot uh could not easily force her. Dayang Sumbi say that she uhm had two require
requirements, th first is that Sangkuriang has to made a boat, a small boat and also he has to to to
make uh the river of Citarum to be… to be stuck. And then Sangkuri ang tries to do it but uh he
must to do it, he must do it before before before the dusk comes. And then worrying that
Sangkuriang will finish the the job, Dayang Sumbi throw some some scarf some white scarf uh
five white scarves uh signaling that it is uh it is dusk uh that the son has has risen. And knowing
this Sangkuriang became furious and the the the boat and … it falls and then it becomes the
the…the the the mount of the mount of Tangkuban Perahu. Uh but finally Sangkuriang uh gets his
emmory back and he…he realize that what he… he has done is wrong , so he really regrets and
they Dayang Sumbi and Sangkuriang uh … finally uh live … together and happy forever.

Subject no. 6
Uh the story tell about the Sangkuriang. Uh it started when uh..forest pig uh in indonesian we call
it celeng uh drink the p of the king in a uh a coconut leaf <laugh> and then uh the forest pig uh
named her uh named his uh the baby girl uh Dayang Sumbi. And after shw grows up, Dayang
Sumbi have a child uh..whose name is Sangkuriang. One day, Dayang Sumbi ask Sangkuriang
to..hunt a deer with with the dog whose uh which name is Tumang. And…and then Sangkuriang
go to hunt a deer by borrow eh by…bringing a bow and…and an arrow uh while waiting for her
son Dayang Sumbi uh do something with uh a stick to…to hit the rice. Uh Dayang Sumbi hit the
rice with stick and a place which is in Indonesia we call as lumpang. And after Sangkuriang
arrive, then Dayang Sumbi cook the heart of the deer and but after they finish eating suddenly
Sangkuriang told her mother that uh actually this uh what they have already eat is uh what they
have already ate is not a heart of the deer, but this is the heart of the Tumang. And Dayang Sumbi
got angry and then he eh she hit Sangkuriang’s head by uh uh … a place that Indonesian uh
usually used to place water and then there also a place for rice for they eat and Dayang Sumbi
hit Sangkuriang so hard so that after that Sangkuriang lost her mind eh his mind uh and then
Dayang Sumbi ask him to go uh to go out from their house. After sometimes, they met again and
uh when Sangkuriang saw Dayang Sumbi, he suddenly falls in love with her but of course Dayang
Sumbi who realize that Sangkuriang is her son refuse it. Uhm yet Sangkuriang still insisted to love
Dayang Sumbi then Dayang Sumbi ask Sangkuriang to do two things, that is to…to…uhm to dam
Citarum river and to make the uh a little ship. Sangkuriang because she eh because he loves
Dayang Sumbi very much, he tried hard to fulfill what Dayang Sumbi wants and then Dayang
Sumbi build a little ship for her. But Dayang Sumbi because she does not want to get involve in
close relationship with Sangkuriang she then uh blow up uh five white clothes in order to make
Sangkuriang realize that it it has already morning and that he failed to fulfill dayang Sumbi wants.
Kknow uh for knowing this, Sangkuriang get angry and then she … blow up the little ship and the
little ship become gunung Tangkuban Perahu. Uh as time goes by uh the Sangkuriang get back his
mind and then she know that Dayang Sumbi is he know that Dyang Sumbi is his mother and then
they live happy together as a happy family.

Subject no. 7
Uh this is a story about uh Tangkuban Perahu uh about Sangkuriang. First, there is a bull, a bull
that drink from the uh coconut skeleton. And uh the water that he drink is the… urine from a
king . and that’s why the bull uh has then born a baby female baby named Dayang Sumbi. And

after Dayang sumbi is grown up, she she was she pregnant and she has a boy , she has a son name
Sangkuriang. Uh one day Sangkuriang wants to go to the forest to hunt a deer so he brings the

and the tools that is used with the arrow to shut the arrow. And then he is going to the jungle
with his dog name Tumang. And while he is trying to find the deer, uh his mother Dayang Sumbi
uh … uhm hold an…an…<laugh> what … she hold an uh a kind of stick that is used
to…to…<laugh>…to process the rice. And the rice that is put in a place made from wood also.
And then after Sangkuriang has gone back to the house uh Dayang Sumbi uh put the deer’s heart
on a piece of banana’s leaf and she also made rice beside the the place of the rice that is made
from that is made from the a kind of wood also ya. But after they have their meals, Sangkuriang
admit that the heart is not a deer’s heart but it is his dog’s heart. and that makes Dayang Sumbi
mad and that and then Dayang Sumbi take the …the…<laugh> take a kind of a bottle made from
soil and she hit it to Sangkuriang. And that makes him get some kind of insomnia eh amnesia
<laugh> sorry amnesia. And after after Sangkuriang get hurt because of the bottle he goes away
from his house. And uh and then one day Sangkuriang meet again with his mother but he has
already forgotten that the woman is his mother. And he…falls in love with dayang Sumbi. Uh
because Dayang Sumbi uh want to refuse his proposal, she ask Sangkuriang two things to do. First
she wants Sangkuriang to…to…to bend the flows of the Citarum river. and the second one, she
asked Sangkuriang to make a small boat for her. And while Sangkuriang does his job, uh and the
eh sorry. First before uh Sangkuriang has to do the task before the sun rises. So when he almost
succeded almost success in doing that task, Dayang Sumbi try to think another plan to make the
his son fail for his job. So he throw away five uh sleeves uh five clothes to to make uh
Sangkuriang think that the sun ahs already risen, and after he knows that he has fail for his job, he
is very angry and he kick the boat the small boat strongly and that makes the boat felt down and it
becomes a Tangkuban Perahu.

Subject no. 8
Once upon a time, there was uh jungle boar who had a daughter because she drank the urine of a
king which is which was put in uh what do you call that? In the skin of a coconut. Ok. When this
child grows up she had a baby too and the baby was a boy named Sangkuriang. One day she told
Sangkuriang to bring a bow and arrow and while she was uhm while she was making some rice
for the food and she use uhm the tool for … wait a minute! Menumbuk itu apa bahasa inggrisnya?
<asking for help> to stump? to stump the rice uh which is a stick like a tool and also uh some
kind of a big bowl in order to stump the rice. Uh when she wanted Sangkuriang to go for
hunting, she told his dog to accompany Sangkuriang and her dog’s name was Tumpang. When
Sangkuriang came home, he brought the liver of the deer and then the mother cook it and they eat
it together. Emm after the mother and the son eat the liver, and then
Sangkuriang her mother his mother that it was the liver of other animal but it was the liver of his
dog, Tumpang. His mother became very angry and his mother took the Javanese pot from clay
and hit him in the head uhm while after they were eating. Ehm ups sorry I forgot one, and uhm
they put the liver in…. a rice bowl. After that, after Dayang Sumbi hit the head of Sangkuriang
with the clay pot, Sangkuriang lost his memory. Years later after Sangkuriang grow up, he forgot
that Dayang Sumbi was his mother. He came to Dayang Sumbi and fell in love with her. But
Dayang Sumbi knew that Sangkuriang was her daughter her son, and Dayang Sumbi did not want
to marry Sangkuriang. But because Sangkuriang force her to and then she gave some conditions
for Sangkuriang to fulfill. First of all, she wants Sangkuriang to built a dam around…..Citarum’s
river, and also for him to make a boat a small boat. Uh before but it had to be completed before the
day changes into tomorrow. And when Sangkuriang built the dam and also made the boat, Dayang
Sumbi was afraid that Sangkuriang could complete the task in one night. So she brought five white
scarves together and she throw it in the air so that Sangkuriang thought that it was morning
already. Sangkuriang was very angry when she when he saw that Dayang Sumbi did to trick him
and he uhm and then he kick the small boat until it flip over and uhm and afterward he gain his
memory back. After he gain his memory back, him and Dayang Sumbi live together happily ever
after as mother and son while the boat became the Tangkuban Perahu mountain.

Subject no. 9
Once upon a time, there was a pig …uh drank uh a king’s p. the p was place in coconut shell.
After drinking the king’s p, the pig … lay a beautiful baby girl. As time goes by, the baby girl

Sangkuriang was told by Dayang Sumbi to …uh to uh….and hunt a deer because Dayang Sumbi
wanted to have ….uh deer’s heart for the dinner. Uh Sangkuriang went to hunt the deer by
carrying a bow and an arrow accompanied with his dog, uh <asking the dog’s name and smile>
Tumang, Tumang. <laugh> in giving the order, Dayang Sumbi was uhm pounding rice grind uh by
sets of tools which a custom eh which usually used to pound rice <laugh>. And soon
afterwards, they uh Dayang Sumbi fix the dinner uh cook the rice and also cook the deer’s heart.
And she cook rice and put it in a rice jar p rice jar. <laugh> uhm after eating dinner, after eating
the dinner, uhm Dayang Sumbi ask Sangkuriang uh what uh what was it. And then Sangkuriang
told Dayang Sumbi that this actually uh it was si Tumang’s heart not deer’s heart. And then
Dayang Sumbi become angry and she….she to ok water jar and smash it on to….Sangkuriang
heads Sangkuriang’s head and opo yo? and told Sangkuriang to leave the house <laugh>. Couple
years later, long long years ja long years later, uh bothof them met and Sangkuriang fall in love
with Dayang Sumbi. Dayang Sumbi agree to accept Sangkuriang affection if he is able to build a a
dam to <pause> to….to what to block this opo iki? Citarum? Citarum’s river. And build….an
artificial lake. He also have to build a vessel uh… then….unfortunately, Dayang Sumbi che ated on
Sangkuriang. He …oh she……blow of five scarves to….cheated Sangkuriang as if ….the sun eh
the morning has come. Then Sangkuriang realizes his fault and then…..and then they become
mother and son. <laugh> and happily ever after.

Subject no. 10
It is an indonesian traditional story, uh and the title is Sangkuriang. Uhm first of all, once upon a
time, there was uh…a… pig like a pig but the pig is not a pig like we saw in the farm, but the
pig is live in the forest such as wild pig. And this pig has a birth uh uhm having a birth of a son,
a human son because this wild pig, this female wild pig is drinking uhm what is it? A urine, a urine
from the king which is put in the coconut head. And…and then because of she drinks that urine,
then she is having a birth. Uh and then the sons uh sorry it is a female not a son, it is a daughter
<laugh> so the female’s name is Dayang Sumbi. And then Dayang Sumbi uhm then got uh having
a son too, he name his son Sangkuriang. One day, Sangkuriang is old enough, he has to …t o hunt
in the forest, she ask him to have uh…uh…deer liver, deer’s liver. And…uhm…I forgot the story
<laugh>. And…Dayang Sumbi told sangkuriang to do that, he brings uh what is it? It’s a kind of
thing that used for …for separate the rice from its cover be cause the rice is has a cover and
she holds the traditional things that used by Javanese female in Indonesia to uh separate the
rice from its cover. And Sangkuriang to hunt the deer to get its liver, he use uh a bow and an
arrow. Uhm after a moment, he went home and he…he…present the heart of eh sorry the liver of
a deer to his mother. And his mother, in her house hold uh a pot for drinking use uh which is
used by uh Javanese…Javanese people, uh it’s like a drinking pot but it’s a special one, it’s
made from uh … uh what is it? Uh a special kind of soil. And in the house, there are also the…
what is it? It’s a place to put a rice, it’s made from usually it’s made from uh…what is it? Uh
made from…kind of wood . So, she put the rice in it. But uhm ok but aafter they eat from and
take the rice from that place, Sangkuriang told to his mother that actually this is not the uh liver of
a deer, this is actually the liver of a dog. But … actually she’s angry because what she ask is a
liver of a deer, not a liver of a dog, especially that dog is uh become his accompaniance for a long
time and she told Sangkuriang to get away, to leave his house. And a few years later, Sangkuriang
become grown up and adult and they meet again. And Sangkuriang fell in love to his own mother ,
because he has memory lost, he doesn’t remember that actually the woman that he is falling in
love s his mother. So he propose Dayang Sumbi to…marry him. Of course Dayang Sumbi doesn’t
want to do that because Sangkuriang is his own son. So, to make it impossible, Dayang Sumbi told
Sangkuriang to block the river of Citarum, to block the water, so it wouldn’t flow anymore so it
would create upon. Ans she told him to make a kind of boat. But Sangkuriang say yes, he certain
that he can do it. He serve it but and uhm when Dayang Sumbi aw it actually sangkuriang has
almost … will almost finish his job. So, Dayang Sumbi try to find ideas how the preventive
happens. So, she…she blow five white…five white uhm … white scarf to make…to make in a
hope that the dawn has come. So then when she blow this scarf , Sangkuriang taught that it was
down already and he faied, he failed to fulfill the…what Dayang Sumbi want. Then, after then she
realize that actually the one he feell in love with is his mother and he realize that he has mistake
and dayang Sumbi forgive him and.. finally they live ever after as a mother and a son.

Uh there is an animal, I forgot the name, uh it gives birth to a baby girl uhm because she drinks
the water from uh the coconut and then after the baby girl grows up, she gives birth to another
baby boy, and the baby boy called sangkuriang. Uh one day the mother uh gives an arrow and a
bow to Sangkuriang and ask him to hunt for a doe and…uh while uhm she’s cooking a meal for
him in a traditional uh tool to cook the rice. And then after Sangkuriang goes home and get uh
the liver from the deer, she tellls him that she will cook it for his meal but then after he taste the
liver, he said that it was not the deer’s liver but it’s the dog’s. so, I forgot…she cook the rice in
another place. And then when Sangkuriang said to his mother, she became uhm very angry and
she hits him with uh … a kind of jar and then ask him to leave the house. But the incident uh
spiritly cause Sangkuriang uh lost of memory, so…uh until one day they meet again. Sangkuriang
cannot remember that she was his mother and so he fell in love for her and so uh the mother she
didn’t want to love her, so she told him to make him uh a great lake before the down. So when
Sangkuriang finally work on it, she realize that he manage it on time. So she throw away uh five
white scarves to him and to show that it is already dawn. When sangkuriang finds out uh he
became uh really angry and he kicks out the boat he made so that it becomes a great lake that we
call now Tangkuban perahu. But after that, he got his memory and he recognize his mother. So
they live happily ever after as a mother and a son.

Subject no. 12
Uh once upon a time, there was a pig, uh animal in black color usually it has uh two…tanduk
uh…uh two horns uh and this is a story happens in the folklore of Indonesia. This uh animal born
uh a little baby uh, she she can born this baby because she has already drink uh the p of the king at
that time from the the uh if we eat the coconut and the…with throw the…outside part of the
coconut and we will find the hardest part of the coconut that cover the meat of the coconut
inside, that that is the part where the animal drink the p with. And the baby is a … is a girl. Is a
female. When she, when the baby was grown up, uh she has a son name Sangkuriang. Uh one day
she told Sangkuriang to take him uh his arrow and the part of the arrow to go to the jungle and
to find the heart of the deer, to become their dinner. And they uh she she told Sangkuriang to bring
uh to take the dog with him. Uh after that she take the… kind of stick made from uh from the
wood that usually used to hit the oak to produce the rice. And the…the oak will be laid down
in the place and will hit by the stick from the wood. And then sangkuriang goes to the wood and
finally at home, dayang Sumbi prepare the rice and the rice she put it in the rice bowl and also she
take the …she take the jar of water that made of uh that made from uh of part of the ground
that can form. Uh…after that Sangkuriang home, she brings the deer’s heart with him, and
Dayang Sumbi cook it and they eat it. After that, after the dinner’s over, Sangkuriang told to his
mother that actually it’s not the deer’s heart but it’s uh the dog that uh she takes the heart of that
dog. Dayang Sumbi is very angry and she hit Sangkuriang with that jar. Uh after that Sangkuriang
has an amnesia and he go uh he run away from the house. Years after that, Sangkuriang meet again
with Dayang Sumbi and finally because he has an amnesia, he start to fall in love with his own
mother. Dayang Sumbi realize that she didn’t want this happen. She told to uh…she applies two
conditions to Sangkuriang, uh that first Sangkuriang must uh change the…change Citarum river
into a dam, and he also must make a canoe for Dayang Sumbi. Realize that Sangkuriang able to
uh…almost able to to make her which is uh true <laugh> into reality, Dayang Sumbi spread five
white scarves to the air that uh make a symbol that the dawn is arrive. Uh Sangkuriang is very
angry, he kick the little canoe and surprisingly the canoe is changing into a mountain that now
known as Tangkuban Perahu mountain. But after that, Sangkuriang got his memory back. He
knows to…he knows Dayang Sumbi is and they live happily ever af ter as a mother and a son.

Subject no. 13
Once upon a time, there was uh a forest pig, drank a water from coconut so that the forest pig uh
born a baby, a female baby and the name of the baby is Dayang Sumbi. When Dayang Sumbi
adult uh she…she had a male baby namely sangkuriang. And then, one day Dayang Sumbi ask
Sangkuriang to find a deer’s heart in the forest so Sangkuriang took an arrow and uh the part
that is used with. Dayang Sumbi took tools to prepare the rice. The tools were uh… a long stick
made from wood and also a place also from wood, namely lumpang. And then when
Sangkuriang return, uh the heart’s deer uh…lays in uh banana leaf and then the rice being placed
in the … place for the rice made from rattan, called bakul. And then when sangkuriang said that

actually the the heart’s deer is not actrually the deer that actually the heart is the heart from the
dog, the mother gets angry. And then uh Dayang Sumbi, …hit Sangkuriang with a place for
water namely kendi, made from uh…sand. Uh… Sangkuriang ra n away from his home. And
then later on, not long the separation after the accident Sangkuriang amnesia and when she met
Dayang Sumbi he fall in love but of course Dayang Sumbi didn’t didn’t want to to…agree with
Sangkuriang. So Dayang Sumbi ask Sangkuriang to…to….uh to make a small boat namely
sampan and also to … to fence the river in one night. Uh because of dayang Sumbi was frighten,
she…she took five white clothes, she fly away the clothes so that Sangkuriang thinks that it
already morning. And when sangkuriang knew that she get angry and he kick the small boat and
the boat nowadays is known as the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu.

Subject no. 14
One day there there is a celeng, celeng is a kind of pig that actually celeng is different from pig
but they have a same species. Uh this celeng uh drink uh an urine from king in uh batok kelapa,
batok kelapa is a coconut uh uh coconut. After drink the urine, the celeng pregnant and it uh it
appear a baby and the baby cause Dayang Sumbi. Uh after Dayang Sumbi adult uh she also uh
pregnant and she uh appear a uh a young man and the children of Dayang Sumbi is Sangkuriang.
And one day dayang Sumbi ask sangkuriang to hunt in the forest to find the heart of the deer and
Dayang sumbi ask sangkuriang to bring arrow and busur. Uhm Dayang Sumbi try to uh dayang
Sumbi prepare the rice and she bring alu and lumpang. Alu and lumpang are a kind of uh a
traditional thing to…to…uh to…the place of the rice before uh before the rice is cooked and
then after Sangkuriang uh come back from the forest, sangkuriang and Dayang Sumbi try to eat
the heart of the deer and uh and Dayang Sumbi has prepare the rice in the bakul nasi. Bakul nasi
is a kind of place of rice and it comes from wood. Uh after they eat uh they have dinner,
sangkuriang uh told his mother that the…the heart is not from the deer but the heart of the dog
Tumang. Then Dayang Sumbi was angry and she hit the head of sangkuriang uhm with kendi,
kendi is traditional thing to keep water. uh and then sangkuriang uh unconscious and they eh
and he doesn’t know his life and after a few years they meet each other and at …at the first sight,
Sangkuriang uhm falling in love to his mother, dayang Sumbi but Dayang Sumbi know that
Sangkuriang is her child and Dayang sumbi try to reject uh the love of Sabgkuriang by asking him
to make a small boat and also try to separate Citarum river. And sangkuriang try hard to finish the
job because he want to marry Dayang Sumbi. And Dayang Sumbi uh finally …Dayang Sumbi
don’t want, uh doesn’t want that Sangkuriang can finish his job, and then dayang Sumbi try to uh
throw the some uh five white selendang, selendang is a kind of long cloth. And then sangkuriang
hate that the job ahsn;t finish it and he fail so he uh kick the boat and we know the legend as
Tangkuban Perahu. And finally Sangkuriang conscious that Dayang Sumbi is his mother and they
live ever after as a mother and a son.

Subject no. 15
Once upon a time, there is a jungle pig, a pig that is uh that live in the deep forest who got
pregnant and give birth to a beautiful baby girl. And the baby girl was born because once there
was a king who…urinated in the coconut shell. And that jungle pig drank the water that particular
water urinated of the king in the coconut shell. The baby girl was then named as uh Dayang
Sumbi. Time went by Dayang Sumbi grew to a beautiful lady and further she give birth to a
healthy baby boy whose name is Sangkuriang. One day Dayang Sumbi ask his son Sangkuriang to
go and get his arrow and arch for hunting a deer for its liver. Dayang Sumbi then also took the uh
the <laugh> the uh an alu and lumpang those are tools to…to…<laugh> <tape stopped >. Alu and
lumpang is a tool for uh I mean they are tools to to grind rice ya anyway ok. Then when
sangkuriang wuth his arrow and arch hunting for the liver, dayang Sumbi also grind the rice, uh
then uhm in short Sangkuriang went back and brought to his mother the liver. The mother also
prepare the rice in uh in uhm a bamboo basket, traditional bamboo basket <laugh> that village
people usually use to to put the rice. Ya then they eat the meal together. After finishing the meal
Sangkuriang the told his mother , Dayang Sumbi that actually the liver they have eaten was not
the liver of a deer, instead it was the liver of the dog, ya the dog’s, Siamang ?<scratching her
frown>. The dog was uh the dog was accompanied Sangkuriang when they went hunting for a
deer. Dayang Sumbi was very very mad, very upset more than just mad then she hit sangkuriang’s
head with the clay pot, drinking clay pot, to uh ya to Sangkuriang’s head. As a result,
sangkuriang got amnesia. She uh he lost his memory. Moreover, Dayang Sumbi also expel his son

to, ya she throw the son away. For quite a while, after the incident, sangkuriang somehow got back
that kind of place and he uhm met a beautiful woman who happen to be Dayang Sumbi his mother.
Sangkuriang didn’t realize that the woman he met was actually his mother. Unfortunately that
Sangkuriang was fell in love with the woman that is Dayang Sumbi. And had itention to marry.
Dayang Sumbi recognize Sangkuriang as her son whom she want expelled. Try that she could to
stop the uh the proposal. Therefore she, she ask sangkuriang to block the river of Citarum to make
a dam. Not only that, she also ask Sangkuriang to make a small boat and all those things had
should be finish, had to be done before th dusk. Sangkuriang agrre to the requirement and make
those things. Then Dayang Sumbi who…was really to do anything to stop, then went and uh
…and uh with five slayers, long slayers, she made a sign as a dusk has arrive. Sangkuriang
realize that he got very angry and then he kick the small boat and the boat was then recognize then
as gunung Tangkuban Perahu. However after doing so, Sangkuriang realize that the woman is
actually his mother. He realize his mistakes and then they live happily ever after as a mother and
son. The end.

The Transcription of the Poor students of Speaking VI

Subject no. 1
Uh there is a wild boar uh which drinks the uh king’s urine uh in uh coconut fruit and then the
boar become pregnant and gives birth of a baby, uh a baby girl whose name is Dayang Sumbi. And
then later on after Dayang Sumbi has become an adult woman, she has a son whose name is S uh a
very strong young boy and they live together in a small village. One day Dayang Sumbi told tell
her son S to bring arrow and bow to hunt for a deer a deer to take the deer’s liver uh while
Dayang Sumbi herself take a tool to make rice and place to put the rice make rice for the dish
supper. After back from the hunt, Sangkuriang give the liver of the deer to her mother but her
mother doesn’t know that the liver that Sangkuriang give to her is not the deer’s liver but the
Sangkuriang’s dog Tumpang liver. His mother also prepare the rice in the place to put the rice
which has been cooked. And then S tells her mother that the liver he has given to… to her mother
is the liver of the Sangkuriang’s dog, Tumpang. Dayang Sumbi, Sangkuriang’s mother is very
upset, she is very angry to Sangkuriang, so she hit Sangkuriang’ s head with a jar. Sangkuriang
then Sangkuriang is afraid and he he leaves home. Uh bcoz Sangkuriang is hit by uh by her
mother, he lost conscious and he can’t remember a thing about he can’t remember his own mother,
Dayang Sumbi. Uh after years later, uhm S finally meet his mother again, but because uh but
seems he didn’t doesn’t remember his own mother, uh <laugh> and then he falls in love with
Dayang Sumbi. of course Dayang Sumbi uh doesn’t want to uh to take her son’s her son’s love,
she doesn’t … and then she uh but but Sangkuriang insist to …insist Dayang Sumbi to take his
love. So, finally Dayang Sumbi uhm gives several uh gives some kinds of conditions for
Sangkuriang if sangkuriang uhm wants Dayang Sumbi to take his love. Dayang Sumbi tell
Sangkuriang to dam to dam the river of Citarum and to make a boat a small boat, to make a small
boat before uh in one night before the morning comes. Sangkuriang … take the conditions, take
the conditions, he tries so hard to dam the river of citarum and then to make a boat and he almost
have finish his job. Dayang Sumbi feel afraid that Sangkuriang could could uh could have done
the the conditions she gave to him. So she tries to make Sangkuriang fail to dam the citarum river
and to make the boat. She then throws the nine scarfs uh nine white scarves so uh in order to make
S thinks that the morning has come….and then Sangkuriang uh kick the boat that he makes and the
boat finally become the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu.

Subject no. 2
Uh this is a story about uh Indonesian traditional story, the title is Sangkuriang. The story is uh
there there is a pig, wild pig who who born a…girl baby which is called ..which is named
uh…Dayang Sumbi. Uh the pig can uh could born the baby uh human baby because the pig drink
uh the king the king’s p from a coconut <laugh>. And after the /ba/ the baby grown up, she she
also has a son who name it Sangkuriang. And Sangku uh after Sangkuriang grown up Dayang
Sumbi who is the mother uh ask sangkuriang to to go to hunting, to go for hunting. And
Sangkuriang uh go going to hunting uh he take his bow and arrow to go to hunting uh and while
Sangkuriang to go to hunting, Dayang Sumbi…uh …dig the dig rice in her equipments. Uhm..
after return back from hunting, Sangkuriang gives deer’s heart to her mother and her mother eat it

with rice from rice pot. After her mother eat it, Sangkuriang tells to her mother that the deer the
heart is not the deer’s heart. its belong to to dog’s heart which is Sangkuriang’s dog. Uhm Dayang
Sumbi becomes angry after hearing that story he hit Sangkuriang in the head with… drinking pot,
uh and because of the because of that hit Sangkuriang lost his memory and Dayang Sumbi…tells
Sangkuriang to go out from her house. And for after that uh Sangkuriang met Dayang Sumbi
again, but he doesn’t remember who is Dayang Sumbi. And because he attracted to Dayang Sumbi
, he he propose Dayang Sumbi to marry him. Uh … but Dayang Sumbi doesn’t want to marry him
because Dayang Sumbi knows that Sangkuriang is her son. Uh and because of that, Dayang Sumbi
give the requirements to Sangkuriang to fulfill he want to marry Dayang Sumbi. Uh the
requirement is to … build a dam in Citarum river and build a small boat for Dayang Sumbi. And
Sangkuriang … almost fulfill the job and but Dayang Sumb i doesn’t want Sangkuriang fulfill the
job. And he he took her eh she took her linens five linens and throw it away so that Sangkuriang
thinks that it is already down. And because of that Sangkuriang becomes angry and he kick the
boat and finally the boat upside down and but after that Sangkuriang regain his memory and can
remember his mother again and finally he realize that he make a very big mistake. After that he
live with her mother happily ever after.

Subject no. 3
There is a forest pig born a baby because drink the king’s urine from the coconut. The baby is
Dayang Sumbi.Then the baby grow up and also born a son, named Sangkuriang. After
Sangkuriang grow up, his mother ask him to go hunting and he take arrow and uh …uh…
<laugh> the equipment. And Dayang Sumbi make rice in the uh… aduh opo yo… in the
… traditional things <laugh>. After Sangkuriang come, he give the deer’s heart to her mother and
then they eat it. Then Sangkuriang told that the deer is not the deer’s heart but his dog’s heart.
Dayang Sumbi angry and she hit Sangkuriang’s head with the uh… traditional pot beside the
bowl of rice then Sangkuriang lost of his mind and run away from his house. Time by time
Sangkuriang grow up and he still forget about his mother and then uh they meet each other. S
falling in love with his own mother and still uh Sangkuriang doesn’t know that Dayang Sumbi is
his own mother. And by the way Dayang Sumbi want to be his girlfriend but he gave eh ask
Sangkuriang to make a big ship to Sangkuriang then S make it for Dayang sumbi uh but S can’t
finish it before the sun rise. And he feel angry and kick it and changing to be uh uh and become
Tangkuban Perahu mountain. And uh his mother uh … not really angry and Sangkuriang
uh…uh… realize that Dayang Sumbi is his mother. Th en Dayang Sumbi throw some … opo yo
<laugh> uh five silk blanket to Sangkuriang. Then they live happy ever after as a mother and son.

Subject no. 4
Uhm one day, there is a uh a pig in the forest that uh drinks something from the place that there is
the p from the king. And that’s why the pig become pregnant and the pig have a children, have a
daughter. The daughter name Dayang Sumbi. When Dayang Sumbi grow up uh she is pregnant too
and she has a son named Sangkuriang. When Sangkuriang old enough to go to hunting, she ask her
son to hunt a heart of a young deer. And uhm with his dog accompany him name Tumang. While
doing that she is uh she do she do something with the rice uh wearing lumpang and alu. That is a
traditional uh traditional equipment to make the rice. Uh and to accompany her son to go
hunting, Sangkuriang bring arrow with him…and uh busur uh busur is something to make the
arrow flashed<laugh>. Uhm after going to the forest, Sangkuriang went home and he bring what
her mother ask her that is the heart of the deer. And they eat and uh Dayng Sumbi bring the rice
in the bakul, uh bakul is like a place for the rice. And she also prepare water in kendi,uh
traditional place for for water. After having the dinner, Sangkuriang told her mother that
actually what is what they have eaten is not the heart of the deer but it’s a heart of his dog, and
Dayang Sumbi were very angry and she ask she ask her son to leave. Before that she hit the head
of the son with kendi. That’s why uh Sangkuriang become become forget with what he have so far
and she didn’t he did not recognize his mother anymore. And Sangkuriang leaves. Few years later,
uhm Sangkuriang met his mother again and because Dayang Sumbi is very beautiful, Sangkuriang
become uh Sangkuriang falling in love with his mother. But his mother do not like Sangkuriang so
she ask Sangkuriang to do something like uhm to make the sungai Citarum stop and make a big
big mountain. Sangkuriang work very hard and almost did it but Dayang Sumbi don’t likes it don’t
like that Sangkuriang do what she want to do and she uhm…fly five white selendang, selendang is
uh white white uhm… something to cover uhm women uhm women body in the old past time.

And then that is like, uh it seems like is already morning so … Sangkuriang was very mad and he
throw the…the ship the little ship and he become he become he remember what he have done. And
Sangkuriang realizes that Dayang Sumbi is his mother so they live ever after as a mother and a
son.

Subject no. 5
Once upon a time, there was a boar in the jungle which is become pregnant after drinking a.…a p
of a king which is put in a… half cutted of coconut. And the boar was give a birth to a baby girl
who name is Dayang Sumbi. And after that, uhm…Dayang Sumbi live in the jungle and have
pregnant and give a birth to a boy called named Sangkuriang. They live together happilly. And
with her dog call….Tumang. One day, Dayang Sumbi asked Sangkuriang to hunt in the jungle,
and he have to bring back a uh …a deer’s heart. After that, Sangkuriang and Tumang g o to the
jungle to hunt for the deer by bringing arrow and uh another tool. While the Dayang Sumbi make
rice in uh…uhm…in… alu and lumpang <laugh>. And when sangkuriang back, he have one heart
and put it in a…and put it in a…some // place and while is while is….while that time Dayang
Sumbi is making a… preparation for the food. They have meals, sangkuriang told his mother,
Dayng Sumbi that it’s not the deer’s heart but it heart of Tumang, their dog. Dayang Sumbi
become angry and hit sdangkuriang with a pot. After hitted by a pot, Sangkuriang get amnesia and
Dayang Sumbi ask sangkuriang to leave. After they separate, Sangkuriang once a time meet again
but Sangkuriang has forgot who is Dayang Sumbi and he was fall in love with Dayang Sumbi. But
Dayang Sumbi refuse sangkuriang’s love. But sangkuriang is….forcing Dayang Sumbi to accept
his love,. But Dayang Sumbi is agree with two conditions. That Sangkuriang can make a dam or
block the water from …. Citarum’s river and…..make a little canoe before sun rise. And
Sangkuriang do that task, with full of hope and when he almost finish , dayang Sumbi is afraid if
Sangkuriang can….can do this task well. So, Dayang Sumbi release five scarves which indicated
that the morning is has come. And after knowing that, Sangkuriang is mad and kick the canoe and
then the canoe fell down and become a mountain call Tangkuban Perahu. And after the mountain
eh after that incident, Sangkuriang remember everything and he knows that dayang Sumbi is his
mother. So, they live together again peacefully. That’s it.

Subject no. 6
There are a wild pig in the jungle. After she she drinks a water from the coconut skin, … she …
she born a baby. The baby was a Dayang Sumbi. After Dayang Sumbi married, she … she uh she
opo iki? <pause> melahirkan iku opo? She have a child and she name the child Sangkuriang. One
day, Dayang sumbi told Sangkuriang to .. get <pause>. One day she told Sangkuriang to hunt in
the jungle. Sangkuriang bring his arrow and … and his equipment. While Sangkuriang hunt in
the jungle, Dayang Sumbi crush the rice in the .. lumpang with the with the … wood wood stick.
After Sangkuriang come back from the jungle, they eat together.and Dayang Sumbi take the rice
take the rice from the from that place from it place and then after all of them all of them finish
their .. their <pause> breakfast, Sangkuriang told Dayang Sumbi that what they eat is not the heart
of the deer but the heart of the dog. And then Dayang Sumbi get angry so he hit Sangkuriang head
with kendi. Because of that Sangkuriang lost lost of his lost his mind and Dayang Sumbi told him
to get away from the house. Because of loosing his mind, Sangkuriang love Dayang Sumbi when
they first eh they meet eh in the first time. But Dayang Sumbi know knows that Sangkuriang his
her son. So that she make the condition for sangkuriang. The first one is to <(pause> membendung
iku opo? <pause> to hold the water of Citarum river. And the second one is to make a ship a small
ship. And Sangkuriang try to … to fulfill his promnise but Dayang Sumbi worried about the

name Dewi Sumbi. Some years later when the daughter grown up, she become pregnant because

find…to find meal to eat and then Sangkuriang starts to go to the forest by uh bringing an arrow

uh the mother …cooking the liver of the deer given by Sangkuriang and also the rice in the uh…
uh the rice place. But suddenly Sangkuriang acknowledge that actually the liver is belongs to to

because of Sangkuriang killing the dog the mother got angry because actually the dog was
Sangkuriang’s biological father. And then the mother hits uh the mother hits Sang hits
Sangkuriang on his head with uh kendi, a kind of pot made from the clay and moreover the
mother ask Sangkuriang to go out from the house. Since then Sangkuriang …. uh he he lost his
memory of his his previous life and he begins starting a new life and….mmm some years later the
mother and the mother and the son meet again in situ a different situation because uh when a first
time Sangkuriang saw…. .his mother he feels that he he …he loves her and but but the mother

he he stop his feeling his love feeling toward her and then they begin a new life a happy life as a
mother and a son.

Uh one day, uh there is a a…apa ini?…uh a pig uh forest pig and he drink a p from a king in uh
<laugh> coconut skin. Then he pregnant and get a baby girl name Dayang Sumbi. After that,
Dayang Sumbi get pregnant and he there is a son name Sangkuriang. Uh one day, uh Dayang

his mother say that deer heart is from his dog. And his mother angry and take a kind of tea pot I

Uh one day sangkuriang meet his mother and he look his mother is so beautiful so he…he uh he
propose his mother but his mother don’t want and … his mother give a requirement. Ok. If
Sangkuriang can make a mountain maybe and a small boat, her mother will marry sangkuriang.
And when Sangkuriang must do that before the sunshine. And the night when Sangkuriang do his
job to get her mother that he never know, uh he …uh her mother try to …uh to cancel his job and

five clothes I don’t know. And af ter that Sangkuriang become angry and he kick the small boat

One day there was uh a there was uh an animal, in Indonesia it is called celeng, you know celeng
is a big animal uh indonesian people often say that celeng is uh eh sorry people often name
celeng as a pig forest maybe ya. So uh one day this celeng uh drunk a water from a uh from a
what it is called batok kelapa uh it is from from coconut so it is a place like a plate but the plate
is from coconut. And then the celeng drunk the water inside. You know what is the water it is the
…<asking help> ya, it is urine of a king. After after he…after he drunk it and t hen uh..the seleng
was pregnant. And then after that …several months later the celeng uh…melahirkan itu apa ya?
Uh celeng …the celeng have a children uh and then he names Dayang Sumbi. Uh…several years

Sumbi names her children Sangkuriang. Sangkuriang you know is like a strong boy ya. One day
uh…one day Dayang Sumbi ask the Sangkuriang to hunted a deer in the forest in the jungle and
then dayang Sumbi give the arrow to the Sangkuriang, the arrow and the …what it is call? Uh
when you use the arrow you have to use…it is something like uh …so it is a device to to runs
on the arrow. While Sangkuriang went to the forest, uh sorry sorry, when Dayang Sumbi ask
sangkuriang to hunted a deer uh he said to Sangkuriang that he would be accompanied by …uh her
dog Tumang. And then while Sangkuriang went to the forest, uh Dayang Sumbi use use alu, so alu
is a kind of stick to …menumbuk itu apa ya? to…<imitating the way of menumbuk >what is
it call? So there is alu and lumpang. Inside of the lumpang is a rice and the rice is hitted by the
alu. Uh and then in the, late in the afternoon, sangkuriang came back from the jungle and he said
to his mother that he got something. So it’s a deer, it’s a deer meat not meat uh a heart of the meat.
The mother was very happy at that time because sangkuriang get what she wants. And then they
they ate together and after the dinner, uh the Sangkuriang said to her mother that uh “mother I was
lie to you. Uh something that you have eaten is not a deer is not a heart of a deer as what you
want but it’s a meat of your dog.” Uhm before they eat…uh so except that there is a there is a
place where the rice is placed. Hearing that her son was lie to her, dayang Sumbi was very
dissapointed and she was very angry to her son, and then after that eh take the kendi, kendi is a so
… long time ago there is a place of a water if you put the water inside, then you the water will
be cold, will be fresh. So it is not like a jar but it is from uh tanah liat. So uh Dayang Sumbi
the kendi to the head of the Sangkuriang. And then, after that sangkuriang runs from his house and
he became uh he forget everything because Dayang Sumbi hits his head. And even he forgot his
mother. One day, one day they met a girl that she is her mother but Sangkuriang didn’t know about
that because Sangkuriang ya. Uh…after look at the girl, sangkuriang felt in love with that girl that
is his mother. Uh but her mother know that he is Sangkuriang her son. Uh and then after
Sangkuriang said to his mother that he loves her and then his mother have a plan to …inorder not
to make Sangkuriang dissapointed uh she ask Sangkuriang to make a small ship …in a night, in a
day. Ya looking at her son working very harder as so motivated, her mother was worried at that
time. So in the middle of the night, the mother use uh blow up the aduh selendang…you know this
one…uh aduh kain itu apa…. a piece of cotton that it is a sign that it was already in the morning.
Sangkuriang knew the girl’s mind, so sangkuriang was very dissapointed, he kick the small ship
and then her mother realize that she has to be secure to his son. And then they live together happy
after.

Uh in one day, a forest pig something like that, born born a girl and the pig born the girl because
the pig drink the king p from the …uh coconut a place uh place like uh the place from the place
from coconut something like that. And the girl the name for the little girl is dayang Sumbi. And
when the Daqyang Sumbi is is adult, she …she born a boy and…the name of the boy is
Sangkuriang. And one day Dayang Sumbi want…want sangkuriang to go to the forest to…to uh to
hunt … the liver of deer and Dayang Sumbi ask him to go to the forest with his dog. Si Tumang

arrow and a kind of archery like that. And when sangkuriang go to the forest, dayang Sumbi uh
… prepare to make to make the rice with some some …to …uh something that from the wood,
something like that and to hit hit the… the stick from wood and put put the rice in the
something..from the wood also. The shape is square, something like that. And after that the
Sangkuriang came back to his house and his mother prepare for their lunch and the mother prepare
uh put the liver of the deer in the banana leaf and then put the rice in …in…uh a place is also
from bamboo like that to keep the rice. And when they want to eat, sangkuriang tell to his
mother that actually the liver is not deer liver but it is his dog, Si Tumang liver. And his mother is
very angry, she hit she hit his head with…with uh it is something from clay that you
can…uh…you can put water in there so you can drink from this one and so his mother hit
with this kind of this part. After that Sangkuriang become forget anything, he don’t he doesn’t
know anything. And one day they meet again, sangkuriang meet eh after he forget anything. His
moher make him run from the house until one day they meet, so sangkuriang meet his mother and
his mother meet Sangkuriang, but because Sangkuriang uh forget anything so he doesn’t know that
dayang Sumbi is his mother. And Sangkuriang become falling in love but his mother is very shock
because she know that Sangkuriang is her son. And but still Sangkuriang still force to meet

be her husband if he can …uh …he can…make afence in the irver and also make a small boat only
in one night. And sangkuriang try to make it, and when sangkuriang make it, it near of the finish,
Dayang Sumbi become afraid and he she made she try to make how to make it become
unsuccessful. Dayang sumbi throw out the five white scarf in the air so it’s like that the morning is
coming. Sangkuriang become angry and then he … he throw the small boat until the small boat
become Tangkuban Perahu. And after that they become happy family as a mother ahd a son.

Uh one day there was uh celeng that give uh that was given birth because uh it …it apa ya, it has
eaten the p of king on uh…from batok kelapa and the baby name Dayang Sumbi. Uh one day
Dayang sumbi have a baby name Sangkuriang and Dayang Sumbi offer uh offer sangkuriang to go

the leaves, banana leaves, then he said that this is not the …heart of deer, this is the heart of the
dog Tumpang. Uh this statement make his mother angry and his mother hit hit Sangkutriang with
a place of water, I think made by uh ,made from uhm apa ya…not from wood but from…soil and
until uh sorry his mother his Sangkuriang until he lost his mind. Uh one day Sangkuriang and
Dayang Sumbi met again, and because Sangkuriang lost his mind, he didn’t know that Dayang
Sumbi uh is his mother and Sangkuriang fell in love with Dayang Sumbi and Dayang Sumbi give
some uh…some statements that Sangkuriang should make small boat that should be finished
before morning, but Dayang Sumbi make it fail because she throw the uh…something like uh
…something like… clothes but not clothes, uh something like uh something that use by dancer
in Javanese uhm and after that uh and after that sangkuriang uh…kick the small boat until

of the deer with busur and arrow and then Dayang Sumbi uh…Dayang Sumbi hit the rice with
the alu and lumpang that those equipment is the traditional equipment in Indonesia. After the
eh Sangkuriang go back to his home, dayang sumbi cook this heart of deer and and prepare the
prepare rice in the rice cooker but Sangkuriang tells to Dayang Sumbi that the heart of deer
absolutely is the heart of the dog. And Dayang Sumbi becomes angry and he throw
the… traditional place uh water place call kendi to his head and make Sangkuriang become
amnesia. One day Sangkuriang falls in love with dayang Sumbi and Dayang Sumbi know it and
make Sangkuriang to…build th e dam in the Citarum river. Then Dayang Sumbi in the morning
throw the uh throw five clothes to the river that …that morning will come. And Sangkuriang
becomes angry and kick the boat and the boat now which call Tangkuban Perahu. After that

with rice in rice box. Sangkuriang told Sumbi that it is the …heart that they already ate is not deer
heart but his dog heart. Sumbi was very angry and hit him with uh…with a glass. Because of that,
uh because of that sangkuriang lose his mind and forget about anything. Someday Sangkuriang

so…so sumbi didn’t accept, Sangku uh his love. But because uh Sangkuriang force him eh force
her to accept his love, Sumbi uhm said that she will accept Sangkuriang love if Sangkuriang can
make the river the water in the river stop, so Sangku eh before tomorrow morning. So Sangkuriang
uh…put some rocks in the river uh to stop the water. Sangkuriang almost done hyis job but
suddenly Sumbi saw sangkuriang almost done, so sumbi throiw some uh…Sumbi throw some
clothes to the river to make uh to make Sangkuriang think that, to make Ssangkuriang thought that
it’s morning. But Sangkuriang know about Sumbi uh knows about Sumbi doing and he hit the
boat. After Sangkuriang hit the boat, sangkuriang suddenly get his mind again and remember that
Sumbi is her mother, is his mother. So they live happily together until they dead. Thank you.

Sangkuriang was asked by dayang Sumbi to…to hunt the ehart of uh…mount deer and then
Sangkuriang go uh went to the forest with arrow and uh I don’t know, uh with busur, to be used
with the arrow to shot the arrow. And then uh Dayang Sumbi uh …brought alu and lumpang,
it is a kind of equipment which are used to to make the rice uh to pill the skin of the rice. And
then uh Sangkuriang go uh went home and he brought the heart of the mount deer to his mom and
they ate together with the rice, the irce in the uh…in big place, uh in the traditional uhm place
which is made from uh from uh what we call anyaman <laugh>. And then dayang Sumbi uh,
and then finally sangkuriang told his mom that it is not the heart of the mount deer but the heart of
the dog, Tumang. And then his mom was very angry and hit him by kendi, uh the place for water
which is made from uh…which is made from the clay. And then Sangkuriang lost his memory.
Finally sangkuriang grow up and become handsome person. He fell in love with his mother and
then sanmgkuriang meet her and fell in love with her. Uh Sangkuriang asked her mother to marry
him but uh her mother asked to Sangkuriang to…uh…to make a small boat and make the barrier
for the Citarum river. Uh and then sangkuriang almost finish that job, but uh…but dayang sumbi
didn’t want to marry him so…and Dayang Sumbi was very afraid that his son can finish the job so
she throw away uh traditional cloth from Java and it…it means that the sun rise has com e, has
came. Final uh…and because of that, uh sangkuriang uh felt that he is fail so he was very angry
and he kick the boat until the boat is uh…becomes Tangkuban Perahu. But uh finally Sangkuriang
can get his memory again, so they can live together happily as a mom and son. Thank you.

One day there is an animal who drank king’s when the king has piss in some kind of coconut uh
coconut fruit. Uh and then the animal is pregnant and it birth a baby. The animal uh the animal is
some is some kind of rhinoceros but uh it is not a rhinoceros also, it is like a pig. But a pig
with two horns who usually lives in jungle and forest. The baby grows up and becomes a
beautiful woman named Dayang Sumbi. Then she has a child and Dayang Sumbi decide to name
him Sangkuriang. One day Sangkur eh one day Dayang Sumbi asks Sangkuriang to hunt for a for
a deer’s liver because she wants uh because she desirely wants to eat it. So Sangkuriang left with
an arrow and a bow when Dayang Sumbi is preparing for uh the meal. She prepares the…she is
uh she is waiting Sangkuriang and preparing for drill eh grinder to grind the rice…and also the uh
grind stick to…to grind to grind the rice which in the grinder. And also yes it is. And when
Sangkuriang is back the woman uh already…uh the rice and she has put it in a basket plus a
potter to put the liver. Sangkuriang when he went to the jungle, he did not find any of deer’s liver.
But…because he, because he feels he has has to fulfill her mother, his mother’s will instead he
kills the Tumang, the dog and after that he he he takes out the his liver. So the one that
Sangkuriang brings back to his mother is not is actually not a deer’s liver but a dog’s liver,
Tumang’s that Tumang’s liver. And then Sangkuriang tells it to his mother that it is Sangkuriang’s
liver. Sangkuriang uhm Dayang Sumbi went very mad and through the potter to cook the liver, to
Sangkuriang’s head. Sangkuriang’s head is is hurt and bleed and he ran from the house.
Sangkuriang actually has lost his memory. His has lost all his memory after that. Sangkuriang
wondering and one day he he he found a woman and he directly fell in love with her. Because he
was uh because his memory all was lost he didn’t realize that the woman is actually his mother.

wound in his head uh won’t to uh won’t to uh will not to accept his…will not accept his uh uh will
not accept his asking, asking to get marry with her. So Dayang Sumbi ask Sangkuriang to….b lock
Citarum’s river and made uh a giant boat for her. Sangkuriang….takes the….takes the uh the
requirement. And he work out hard for the night to make to fulfill Dayang Sumbi’s, what Dayang
Sumbi asked to him. When dayang Sumbi see that the Sangkuriang almost made it, she feels very
confused and then as as her effort she ran into she ran into Citarum’s river and, and.…she…….and
she waves the uh clothes and she waves white clothes to the sky to sky direction and shouting the
sun has risen. Sangkuriang thinks that he has he has he has filled. He feels very mad and he kicks
the uh almost done boat into the river. The boat comes from the air and fell into the town the boat
becomes a very huge mountains that we we call it we call the mountain now uh Tangku Gunung
Tangkuban Perahu.

some rice in rice place. And then Sangkuriang told her mother that he killed si Tumang. But
actually the liver that he gave to her mother is not deer’s liver but it is uh si Tumang’s l iver. And
when Dayang Sumbi heard that she got very angry, she got very mad to Sangkuriang and she pick
up this kendi, kendi is kind of tea pot, uh traditional people put water in it and she hit that to

his memory. And after a while, he met his mother again. But when he met her uh he for the first
time he saw her, he fall in love with her. S does not know it that Dayang Sumbi is his mother and

build a small boat. Sangkuriang do her best, Sangkuriang to do his best, and it made Dayang
Sumbi bit scared I guess. So, he came to the near the river and she wave five scarf uh five white

baby. And after few years, this baby has grown up and the name is Dewi Sumbi. Dewi Sumbi had
a boy, the son name Sangkuriang. And one day Dewi Sumbi ask Sangkuriang to hunt for deer and
to take the deer’s heart, th e deer’s heart. And she told to Sangkuriang, ”please take Tumang with
you to hunt the deer and arrow and uh I forget the name uh and … busur <laugh>.” It happen

then his mother cook the heart but it seems that it isn’t the deer’s heart but it’s Tumang heart,
Tumang heart. And Dewi Sumbi get mad and hit Sangkuriang with the place of water made from
uh soil yes and it happen when they had dinner. The dinner is consist of rice in bakul nasi and the
heart. After hitting Sangkuriang with the place of the water, Sangkuriang withdraw from the house
and lost his memory and then one day Sangkuriang met Dewi Sumbi again but because he he lost
his mind, he didn’t he didn’t remember she is his mother, she propose his own mother to get
married. And Dewi sumbi try to refuse. But because Sangkuriang insist Dewi Sumbi ask to
Sangkuriang to stop the Citarum river and to build a small boat just in one day. It seems that
Sangkutriang will success in that time but Dewi Sumbi didn’t want to marry with her own son. So
she she give the his <pause> uh what is English term for selendang? Uhm <pause> some kind of
clothes, just say it clothes, the clothes number is five and to make Sangkuriang thinks that it’s
already morning. So, Sangkuriang will stop working. But later on Ssangkuriang remember that
Dewi Sumbi is his own mother and they live happily forever.

Subject no. 4
One day uh a pig has born a girl name Dayang Sumbi uh this pig can born a baby uh because the
baby because the pig drink from the coconut shell. After the girl grown up, she born a uh a boy,
uh whose name is Sangkuriang. Uh one day Sangkuriang uh have been told to hunt a deer heart so
that they can eat for dinner. Sangkuriang told to brought some arrow and the tool he brought his
accompanion his dog … and also … one uh her mother Dayang Sumbi is using alu and lumpang
… uh to make some food. Uh after retirn from the forest, sangkuriang brought some deer heart,
and uh Dayang Sumbi prepare the rice in uh place for rice made from wood but after they eat the
deer heart, Sangkuriang told her mother that this is not deer heart but her his dog, it is his dog
heart. and then her mother Dayang Sumbi angry to his son so he use a jar and smash to
Sangkuriang head. Uh after that, Sangkuriang lost his mind and do not remember anything. So
Sangkuriang left and one day Sangkuriang met his mother Dayang Sumbi again. But he didn’t
recognize his mother because he has lost mind. He fall in love with her own mother with his own
her mother and then uh Dayang Sumbi of course didn’t want uh doesn’t want uh her son love her
because Sangkuriang is her son. But Sangkuriang insist that Dayang Sumbi should take her love.
Uh Dayang Sumbi will agree Sangkuriang demand if Sangkuriang can … uh … take or
accomplish his her demand. Uh which is the first one is his uh he should make uh the river shut
down and he has to make a boat uh in one day. Sangkuriang uh agree to accomplish the task. Uh
after Sangkuriang already uh near near the success make all of the condition uh suddenly… of
course Dayang Sumbi doesn’t want that happen because he doesn’t want her son marry her. Uh
Dayang Sumbi use some … <stoping the tape> <look at the wall> then Dayang Sumbi use white
clothes usually use by woman to make uh … some <stopping the tape> <looking at the ceiling>
make a decoy so that like if it already morning of uh uhm Sangkuriang very angry that morning
has come before her task before her task uh before his task accomplish. So he kick the boat and

flip over and then become a mountain. Uhm after that Sangkuriang realize that her mind is already
back and he knowthat Dayang Sumbi is her mo her mother his mother and then they live together.

Subject no. 5
One upon a time, there is uh forest pig. And the forest pig, after he drinks the urine of king’s
urine, uh…on the half of the coconut. And after that the pig…suddenly…suddenly appear one
female baby and the female baby’s name Dayang Sumbi. Uh and then Dayang Sumbi grow up and
he eh she…h as a child name Sangkuriang. And one day she told to sangkuriang to looking for the
deer heart for her to make to have dinner. And Sangkuriang prepare his bow and he…he uh…his
uh … panah <laugh> and his dog name Tumang. And then when while his mother prepare rice by
alu and lumpang, alu and lumpang is used to hit the rice…to make it make it and cook it,
something like that. Uhm after …after Sangkuriang for a long time looking for the heart deer and
at night he go home and he take the heart to his mother…his mother ask him…she ask him…and
he said that it is not deer’s heart but it is his dog’s heart, Tumang’s heart. His mother is very
angry and his mother hits his head by uh the… kendi…and then…uh…uhm it is the rice plate.
And then finally Sangkuriang lose his mind, uh I mean amnesia <laugh> and he when he go out
from home for a long time. And one time, he met again his mother but he cannot he cannot uh he
don’t know that she is her mother even he is falling in love with her, with the woman. Uhm but his
mother told uh give him uh…syarat itu apa ya uh…requirement? Ya his mother give him some
requirement if he wants to be with her, to be his wife. And the requirement he need to…he need to
apa itu tadi? He need to make a small boat and to dam Citarum river. and finally after his mother
knows that Sangkuriang almost do his job, the mother of course he wants to make some uh…she
wants to bother Sangkuriang by release some… some..some selendang to the river to show that
the time is up, it is already morning now. When Sangkuriang knows his mother tricks,
Sangkuriang is angry very much and he he kick the small boat to the Citarum river. and then the
Citarum river is broken. So the Citarum river we know now as Tangkuban Perahu. And
Sangkuriang finally knows his mistakes and she lives together happily with his mother as a mother
and son.

Subject no. 6
One day, there is a wild pig who get pregnant because of drinking uh…king urine from the…kind
of coconut uh and … one day /sh/ there’s a child born … uh and a wild pig give her name Dayang
Sumbi. After Dayang Sumbi grown up, she get pregnant too and she got a son name Sangkuriang.
One day Dayang Sumbi told Sangkuriang to hunt the deer to take the heart. she she told
Sangkuriang to take an arrow and…uh…and it’s something to launch the arrow. While then
Dayang Sumbi take an … taking it something to…uh…to…to press the rice …uh… and then
after Sangkuriang went home from it hunting, Dayang Sumbi prepare…prepare the dinner uh with
the heart of the deer that sangkuriang hunt. And…and ri ce on its place. After Sangkuriang eat the
heart of the deer, it was not the heart of the deer but it was the heart of his dog. When dayang
Sumbi heard that, she got angry. She hit her son’s head with…uh…and Dayang Sumbi hit
Sangkuriang head with something hard that makes sangkuriang losing uh losing his mind. And
told Sangkuriang to leave the house. One day, they met each other and because of Sangkuriang
forgot anything, he fall in love with Dayang Sumbi. Then of course Dayang Sumbi doesn’t want it.
But because of Sangkuriang insist, uh Dayang Sumbi make two conditions that uh Sangkuriang
have to cmplete. First is to…uh…to <asking help> membendung itu apa ya? ….to to dam the
citarum river and the second is to make the small boat. And… because Dayang Sumbi d oesn’t
want his eh her son to complete anything he mention, he run and …menerbangkan itu apa ya uh
and then she flew away five sheet of clothes in the coclour of white. And then Sangkuriang thinks
that iot’s already uh the time is over. And it makes Sangku riang mad then he kick the small boat
until down. And then this boat become the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu. After that Sangkuriang
get his mond back and he realize that the things all he do is wrong. Finally, they live together
happily.

Subject no. 7
There was a pig, a kind of Indonesian pig drink the king’s p from the … uh…from the <laugh>
…peanut aduh kok peanut sih <laugh>…. drink the p from the waist of the coconut fruit. And
the pig lay uh give birth to a daughter, a girl name Dayang Sumbi. After years Dayang Sumbi have
a son name Sangkuriang. One day Dayang Sumbi wants wanted Sangkuriang to…to hunt a deer

and take the deer’s heart. So Sangkuriang bring her his bow and arrow go to the forest while
Dayang Sumbi prepare the meal, the dinner with alu and lumpang, that’s kind of the tolls to
prepare the rice. And then Dayang Sumbi told Sangkuriang to bring…to take their dog with
sangkuriang goes hunting. And then when the dinner times comes, Sangkuriang bring the heart of
the deer back home then…uh…Dayang Sumbi prepare the meal. Dayang Sumbi give him the
heart of the deer lay in banana’s leaf and prepare the rice in some kind of container made of
maybe bamboos or some kind of that…when Sangkuriang told Dayang Sumbi that that wasn’t
the heart uh deer’s hear t, Dayang Sumbi goes mad and eh goes angry to Sangku angry with
Sangkuriang and hit Sangkuriang with kind of pot or uh kind of … its name kendi that’s made
from clay and she hit Sangkuriang in the head that’s make Sangkuriang uh got amnesia and said
eh and Dayang Sumbi told eh tell him to go away from her home. Uh several years later, uh
Dayang Sumbi meet again with Sangkuriang but at that time Sangkuriang Sangkuriang so …had
amnesia so Sangkuriang hasn’t didn’t remember his mother so he fell in love with h er mother and
her mother cannot resist it, cannot yes. And then Dayang Sumbi approve his …opo eh accept his
love but with two reasons that is build a dam in Citarum river at Citarum river and make a small
boat eh small boat. And when Sangkuriang have almost finish it then Dayang Sumbi…uh
throw…throw five…scarf, white scarf to the air that make Sangkuriang taught that it was already
down. And then Sangkuriang so get so mad and kick the boat that turn the boat into the mountain
Tangkuban Perahu and suddenly he remembered all that the Dayang eh the girl Dayang Sumbi
was her mother.

Uh this story told us about sangkuriang uh it’s a folk story in indonesian. There was uh I don’t
really know in English, …a pig uh…a jungle pig maybe, it was a female pig and she …oneday
she found uh …what is it in English?…uh coconut uh coconut something. And there was a water
in it, she doesn’t know what it was because she was very thirsty and she drank it, actually that was
uh urine of a king. And miracle happens, she was pregnant and she give birth to a female, it was a
baby girl and she name that Dayang Sumbi. When dayang Sumbi grow up, she also had a baby, it
was a baby boy and she name it sangkuriang. One day she told Sangkuriang to go for hunting,
hunting for uh… and she told Sangkuriang to take a pig, deer’s heart, and then she also gave him
uh arrow and uh…she told apa ya? <laugh> I forget what busur it was, busur aja deh <laugh> and
busur. Dayang Sumbi also told sangkuriang to take Tumpang their pet uh it was a dog to
accompany him in the jungle to hunting and Dyanag Sumbi was at home uh waiting for the
cpoming of her son and she…did something for making a rice with alu and lumpang. And then
when her son came home she….she cook all the deer’s heart that her son g ave her and she also
make a made a rice and she put it in a bowl of rice and… after eating she eh I’m sorry
Sangkuriang told her mother that it was not, it was really not a deer’s heart but it was Tumpang’s
heart. And then her mother became really mad because of that and she hit …uh uhm sangkuriang’s
head with kendi, kendi was something uh the place for water, it was traditional tool especially
use for uh ok it’s used by Javanese people. Because of that sangkuriang got amnesia, he
couldfn’t remember anythin g and then…he also…kick out from the house by her mother. One day,
they met again but they don’t really know each other. But actually the mother know that it was
sangkuriang her son, but sangkuriang didn’t know that it was her mother because he lost his
memory. And then Sangkuriang felt in love with her mother because of Dayang Sumbi cannot do
anything, Sangkuriang force her, she uh … she made a conditions to Sangkuriang. She told him to
make a one boat in one day and Sangkuriang had to be had to fixed before the sun rise, the sun
rose. Actually Sangkuriang can make it because he got help, he got a favor from jin uh superstition
something like that, then because Dayang Sumbi afraid that he could make it then she…uh she
flight, she made her shawl uh five of her shawls white colour and she .. so it just look like the sun
has rosen in the sky. Sangkuriang become really mad and Dayang Sumbi make uh … explain it to
him, he could understand and then they became a mother and a son like it was before.

Ok this is a story about uh Indonesian folks, uh a story about Sangkuriang. In this picture there’s a
celeng, celeng is a …a unique animal in Indonesian. Uhm this celeng give birth to uh a little
baby girl because it drank what the urine of a king and then uh then uh from the what coconut
container. And the little baby girl name Dayang Sumbi. And after Dayang Sumbi was a woman,
adult, he give birth uh she has uh she had uh a son name Sangkuriang. One day she told

leaf and rice in the container. And after they had eaten it, sangkuriang told his mom that it was
not the deer’s heart but it actually was Tumang, heart, their dog. Of course Dayang Sumbi
became very angry and he hit Sangkuriang head with a jar which make uh sangkuriang became uh
get amnesia and then he run away from the house. After a long time, they meet again, and
Sangkuriang met his mom but because he cannot remember anything about Dayang Sumbi then he
fell in love with his mom. And want to marry his mom. His mom make the requirement that he
had to block the Citarum uh Citarum river and make a boat just before the sun rises. Uh
Sangkuriang make uh make it possible for it and he almost did it actually, but Dayang Sumbi
worried about it and she ...she ran to the river bank eh to the edge of the river and she uh throw
five clothes so people think that the sun have rise. tHen Sangkuriang became verry angry and he
kick the boat he lamost make and then the boat become Tangkuban Perahu. And then Sangkuriang
reagin his conscious back and he recognize that Dayang Sumbi is her mom and they live ever after
again.

h there is a story, it’s uh Indonesian story uh the tittle is Sangkuriang. There is a wild pig, uh one

make a rice. And then he uh when he get it, he comes back to his home and Dayang Sumbi ready
make a dinner for them. And uh his mother cook a heart and he put as a dinner. And then when
Sangkuriang eat it, he say that it wasn’t the heart that he have hunted, it’s a heart of th e dog name
Tumang. And his mother become angry and hit him with traditional place to put the water uh
usually it use uh in small village and he hit on Sangkuriang head and then he run from his house.
Beside the heart he use uh a to put a rice they use uh… traditional place usually made uh by
uhm…usually made by bamboo because there is no uh…<laugh>. And then after a long time
they meet again. When Sangkuriang see his mother, he fall in love with her. But uh his mother
know about Sangkuriang. He know he is her son. And then uh he want uh he give the requirement
to his son, first he have to…uh…close the stream of Citarum river and the second requirement is
he have to make a small canoe. And uh Sangkuriang try hard to do it and his mother want to make
it fail and then his mother take uh five of small…uh…small clothes, it uses uh and she blow it to
the air. And then sangkuriang know it and thoink that it’s morning. And then finally Sangkuriang
realize and hit canoe and becomes Tangkuban Perahu. And then finally Sangkuriang realize that is
his mother so they live happily forever.

Ok. Good morning. Uh the story is about uh about traditional story about uh which thell about the
story of Tangkuban Perahu. The story begin with uh there is uh what I that? Celeng, celeng is a
kind of uh …what is that? Pig? A big pig. In that time, the celeng is have already what’s that?
Uh pregnant and the celeng have a child and the child is not animal but it’s a human. That because
that celeng drinks uh what is that? A water from the king, actually the water is uh air kencing dari
si raja, the water is from the king is from uh… batok kelapa? <laugh> uh that give miracle that the
celeng can pregnant and the result of the pregnant the celeng born some uh a human. So he give a
name Dayang Sumbi. A long that time, Dayang Sumbi have a children, male children that she give
the name is Sangkuriang. Someday Dayang Sumbi told Sangkuriang to get hunting and to get the
heart of the …uh heart of the deer. And after that Sangkuriang goes to looking for the heart of the
deer by taking an arrow and uh…what is that? Uh a kind of wood which shape is half of the
circle to be use with arrow. And then because he cannot found any deer he decided to kill his
dog, si Tumang and he took the Tumang heart. For a moment, dayang Sumbi make the rice by
using uh alu and lumpang, alu and lumpang is a kind of tool that villagers use to uh…to…uh to
crush the rice. And in the night when the dinner begin, uh Dayang Sumbi put the heart of si
Tumang to the table infront of the bakul nasi. Bakul nasi is a kind of uh…a place for…for rice

and to to put in the table. But after that she uh what is that? Uh sangkuriang explain to the
Dayang Sumbi that it’s not the heart of the deer but it’s the heart of the dog, si Tuma ng. Dayang
Sumbi getting anger and crash the…the…uh Sangkuriang head with the kendi. Kendi is a small
place to put the water to put the water, to keep the water, ok. After that that…ater
that…happen Dayang Sumbi uh…told to Sangkuriang to go to get out from the house because she
must getting very anger with him. Around uh many years later, Sangkuriang meet Dayang sumbi
agai. Dayang Sumbi become a pretty woman and sangkuriang getting interested with her. But
sangkuriang didn’t know that the girl is his own mo m. And sangkuriang try uh he try to getting
closer with dayang Sumbi and after that he try to getting get married with dayang Sumbi. Uh of
course dayang Sumbi didn’t want to marry with sangkuriang. He try to uh what is that? Make that
it is so hard for sangkuriang. She told Sangkuriang to to cover the rver and to make the small boat
in one night. Sangkuriang sya “that it’s ok, I will do that.” And after around uh around middle of
the night, uh what is Dayang Sumbi want is uh almost Sangkuriang, uh Sangkuriang almost suceed
of what he do to fulfill what Dayang Sumbi wants. Dayang Sumbi afraid of that, so she choose
selendang, white selendang… white silk with the white color uhm and because Sangkuriang afraid
that it have already morning, so he can’t finish th e job. And after that dayang Sumbi…uhm and
Sangkuriang uh…couple days uh Sangkuriang getting health again and he remember about her
mom. So and the end of the story they live together again as a mother and son. Thank you.

king’s piss from uh…it is the skin of the coconut <laugh>. And after that eh the baby’s name is
Dayang Sumbi. Then after that, she grow up and born a baby name Sangkuriang. Uhm…Daya ng
Sumbi ask Sangkuriang to hunt the deer and get the heart for his mother. He brought uh
panah….<looking at ceiling> uh apa ya, uhm…oh ya arrow and the ….uh arch? <laugh>. And
dayang Sumbi make the dinner by hitting the rice in a plate made from rock name lumpang
<imitating gesture of pounding> by the wood stick. After that uh …eh in the evening Sangkuriang
come and give the heart of the deer to his mother so then Dayang Sumbi cook it. Then they
eat…eh sorry I forget, uh dayang Sumbi put the rice in the…ap a ya? ,laugh>…uh rice jar
<scratching her frown>, and they eat. After eating Sangkuriang tell Dayang Sumbi that the heart is
not the heart of deer but the heart of the dog. So, dayang sumbi angry and she kick eh kok kick,
uh she …she…memukul tadi apa ya, k ok jadi lupa? Uh…oh ya hit! Uh she hit sangkuriang’s head
with uh… a pot made from soil until Sangkuriang become eh forget anything. Then he run form
his house. Few years later, he meet Dayang Sumbi. But because of he forget his mother, he fell in
love. Although Dayang sumbi didn’t want, Sangkuriang still force her. So dayang Sumbi makes
two…uh…two conditions that are making the small boat and stem the citarum’s river. It must be
finish before morning. So, sangkuriang try hard and almost finish when Dayang sumbi uh wave
five white… silk to the air to sign that morning has come. Sangkuriang angry because he really
love Dayang Sumbi. He kicks the boat and it is called Tangkuban perahu now. Then they live
happily until the end.

dinner and put the rice in basket of rice. After finish eating, Sangkuriang tell to dayang Sumbi
that the heart is not the deer heart except the dog heart. Of course Dayang sumbi angrya dn then
hit him in head with uh a kind of pitcher but made from soil. The result is Sangkuriang lost his
memory. One day, they meet again. But as we know that Sangkuriang is get amnesia, he don’t
know his mother. He fell in love with Dayang Sumbi. Of course dayang sumbi don’t want. She
then give two reasons to sangkuriang that should be done before next morning. First, making the
small boat and then second uh block the Citarum river. Sangkuriang almost finish it but Dayang
sumbi make it fail. She flight the white scarf in the air. Uhm…sangkurianga ngrya nd he kicks the
boat and now the boat is become a mountain name Tangkuban Perahu. Sangkuriang finally aware
and he love Dayang Sumbi as his mother, not as his wife.

In the jungle, there is a black pig who drink the urine of the king from the kingdom in the coconut
head which cause the black pig get pregnant and gave birth a baby. This black pig name the baby
uh Sangkuriang. After a long time, the baby grow up and born a child, it is Sangkuriang.
Someday, Sangkuriang go hunting because of his mother ask him. He then take the arrow and the
uh…the equipment to take the heart of the deer. After that Dayang Sumbi took uh the
uh… special tools in Javanese to crush the rice. At night, after Dayang Sumbi cook the deer
heart and the rice in the rice jar, they are eating. After that sangkuriang told his mother that the
heart is the dog’s heart, not the deer heart. It makes Dayang Sumbi angry and hit with the jug and
cause Sangkuriang unconscious. Sangkuriang go away from home and he never come back to his
house again. Many many years later, Sangkuriang came to the jungle again and he meet Dayang
Sumbi. But because Sangkuriang unconscious, he fell in love with Dayang Sumbi who is his own
mother. Dayang Sumbi know it and she refuse. Then she make two appointments uh make the
small canoe and block the Citarum river. Sangkuriang agree to do that so he try hard and almost
succeed. But Dayang Sumbi afraid and she run to the the side of the river and blow uh the uh
….shawl to the air as a sign that morning is coming. Sangkuriang hate it and hit eh kick the canoe
until the canoe become the uh apa tadi? <asking help> oh ya Gunung Tangkuban Perahu.

Subject no. 15
Once upon a time, there is a forest pig who drank the king piss from the uh… the hardest part of
coconut skin. And then the forest pig gave birth a girl, Dayang Sumbi. One day after the girl grow
up, she become pregnant and then she uh gave birth also uh a boy, that is Sangkuriang. After that
she uh want to eat the deer’s liver and she told Sangkuriang to h unt in the forest by giving him an
arrow and uh…busur?…<looking at ceiling>….and a bow. When his mother Dayang Sumbi uhm
use the stick to pound the rice in the uhm….in the… pounder place made from the hard stone
<laugh>. Then in the night they eating. There are the deer’s liver on the banana leaf and there are
also rice in the uh…well now this place is called magic jar but in the past time is called bakul
nasi <laugh>. For the first time Dayang Sumbi is happy because she can eat the deer’s liver but
then she change her mood after hearing that the liver is their dog’ liver, si Tumang. She crush
Sangkuriang’s head with the…what’s that? <looking the picture deeply>, uhm crush him with the
uh it’s like a pitcher but it’s traditional and made from the…clay. Sangkuriang then suffer
amnesia and he goes away from home. After a long time separate from his mother, he meet
Dayang Sumbi again and fall in love with her because he don’t know the truth. Dayang Sumbi
refuse and give him uh two…two…what?….uhm two conditions? < scratching her frown> that is
uhm he have to…he has to make a small boat and he has to dam the Citarum river. Actually
Sangkuriang can finish it but because Dayang Sumbi fail him with throwing five uhm white…uh
throwing the slayers, Sangkuriang fail. Then he angry and kicks the boat and the boat now become
eh called Tangkuban Perahu Mount. Finally Sangkuriang conscious of what he have done is wrong
and he ask apologize to his mother and then they live together again.

is uh see a deer and she want his eh sorry her child to catch the deer. So, Sangkuriang borrow a
arrow and uh things for use it and Dayang Sumbi uh make a rice, not make uh but to cook the
rice that the rice is must uh must produce first and uh it use uh Indonesian is said lumpang and
alu uh place for the rice and alu is the stick for uhm for for hit the rice, so the rice is more uh
maybe more good for the taste. And so S after uh after S go home and borrow the heart deer, uhm
Dayang Sumbi cook and <pause> cook and <pause> and make the rice and now its name is rice
cooker but in Indonesian is say uh the bakul nasi. Uhm after they eat, S told the truth that it’s not
the deer heart but uh it’s a, it’s uh her mom dog heart, the name is Tumang who eh which sorry
which Dayang Sumbi uh before he want to catch the deer, Dayang Sumbi <pause> ask the dog to

like a pot for drink of water and he go round and he got amnesia. Because he got amnesia, so he
didn’t remember his mother. Uh one day, he meet his eh his mother but he falling i n love. But
Dayang Sumbi who know the truth didn’t want her child uh has a feeling like that so he <paus>
she want uh like two wishes, so she think that Sangkuriang can do it, she want uhm makes
Citarum river can stop and then make a small boat and it must finish … before morning. Uh but
Dayang Sumbi is false because Sangkuriang … Sangkuriang can do it and it almost finish. So, uh
she find uh five scarf uh white scarf but uh it can look like uh morning so S who didn’t know that
angry because he think that the morning is coming but he can’t finish it. So he …. he kick the
small boat and then uh it … the place is upside down and become the mountain and the mountain
is name Tangkuban Perahu. But after that uh Sangkuriang got his remind again and he can know
his mom and then they live happy. The end.

Subject no. 2
There is a boar who had drink uh who drink uh the king’s p from the coconut fruit but it just a
half of a coconut fruit without its meat, and until one day this boar has pregnant a baby girl and
her name is Dayang Sumbi. And then Dayang Sumbi grown up, she pregnant a baby boyand his
name is Sangkuriang. Until one day Dayang Sumbi call her son to take an arrow and uh its what is
this? A half of wood which usually we sue it with an arrow. Meanwhile Dayang Sumbi take a
what is this? Take uh something to to cop top rice with its stick call alu in indonesia. Dayang
Sumbi tell her son to to hunt a deer’s heart with his dog name Tumang. But when he finally came
home, he he tell he prepare that that deer’s heart. Meanwhile D S prepare the rice on banana leaf
in rice pot. When she prepare that, S tell that it is the real deer’s meat but that is his dog’s heart.
And finally Dayang Sumbi get mad and she hit his sn head with the jar. Because of it, because of
that, Sangkuriang get amnesia. Several days later, Sangkuriang meet her mother … and she eh he
directly falling in love with her. But D S didn’t want to be his love, so she .. get any saint reason
and she tell sangkuriang to make a to make a river, make make a little boat and <laugh> and hold
the river. So S with his power of love make it enthusiaslly. Uh D S look at it and she found that it
will finish soon. So she try to make it .. unsuccessful. So, she go to the side of the river and she
spread the five pieces of some kind of white textiles and then S who didn’t know that there is D S
who made it, he shock and he finally angry because he can finish his job. And he finally know that
there is Dayang Sumbi’s job. Until finally he kick his little boat until it turn the backside and
<pause> and be a mountain name Tangkuban perahu. Finally bothe of them live happily as mother
and son.

Subject no. 3
Uh once upon a time, there’s a forest pig uh who drunk the king’s king’s <laugh> from the
coconut fruit. And then the forest pig is ja the forest pig was pregnant and born uh born a baby.
The pig uh and then the pig named her Dayang Sumbi. An then Dayang Sumbi grown up and have
a baby name Sangkuriang. Uh and then someday, Sangkuriang uh was get by his mother to uh to
to to get the deer heart for the dinner. And then uh Sangkuriang mother wants to wants to uh
wants him to take the busur uh busur is what what uh is the is a wood use to uh use by an arrow
to kill the deer and get the heart. Uh for the dinner, Dayang Sumbi prepare the rice, she she
wanted to uh hit the rice with alu and lumpang. Alu is the tool use to hit the the rice in lumpang.
And and Sangkuriang gone with his dog Tumang. Uh after uh after uh few minutes or few hours
uh Sangkuriang have eh has know has no uh has no get the deer heart. And he kill Tumang and get
the heart to give give it to his mom. And the heart is bungkus itu apa ya? Bungkus itu is uh take in
a daun? Uh takes the heart in a leaf and then give it to his mom. And then uh his mom is very
happy because uh Sangkuriang can get this eh can get the heart. And his mom is prepare was
prepare the rice in uh in … uh apa ya, uh aduh ga tau <laugh> wis in bakul nasi and eat the heart
together with his her son. Uh and then uh his mom is does is didn’t know th e heart is from
Tumang heart. And then after his son told her it is Tumang heart and then the his mother is very
angry and get the kendi. Kendi is a tool to uh household is household <laugh> to keep the
water. And his mother get the kendi and hit his son in his head. Huh after few months maybe uh
Sangkuriang is is is <pause> Sangkuriang doesn’t know his his mother again because lupa? He is
forgot his mom. Trus, and after he met his mom, uhm he is falling in love with his mom and want
to married her. And then Sangkuriang make some uh make some syarat? Membuat syarat <laugh>
requirements to marry his mom. His mom eh he will build uh dam itu apa ya? Uh make a dam and

a boat for hi mom to marry him. And then to fail the plan, his mom uh throw the uh selendang,
selendang is very long kain? Kain? <asking help> clothes? uh selendang is like a very long
clothes, five clothes she is throw to fail the plan. And Sangkuriang become angry and uh and
know and know his plan is fail. And he<(gesture> <asking help> kick the boat and become uh
Tangkuban Perahu mountain. And then suddenly, Sangkuriang become conscious become
conscious and he rely that D S is his mom. And then Dayang Sumbi and her son Sangkuriag live
together happily.

There uh there is a pig, it is a pregnant pig uh she is pregnant because she she drank…because she
drank king’s king’s p. and after she she has a birth the baby the girl baby name…Dayang Sumbi.
He eh she drank the king’s p from the coconut …I don’t know the name…<laugh>. And after
Dayang Sumbi grown up, she is pregnant and she gave she gave a birth to the baby boy named
Sangkuriang. She has a…she has a dog named Tumang. And one day she ask Sangkuriang to…she

deer. She wants to eat the deer’s heart. And Sangkuriang take an arrow and he ask Tumang to go
for hunt. …uh..uh she ask the equipment to go hunt, an arrow and also…and also the tools made
from half circle wood <laugh> while and … uh… <laugh> and the rope. And after
Sangkuriang go to the go to hunt, Dayang Sumbi blend the rice in the with the tool called lumpang
is a is a tool made from made from the rock and alu is made from wood. Uh…finally
Sangkuriang arrive and they eat uh they are eating the heart of deer with the rice in a…in a… uh
this tool call bakul, is made from wood is kind of bowl rice bowl made from wood. And after it
has been eaten, sangkuriang tells Dayang Sumbi that it wasn’t deer heart but it was Tumang
heart. dayang Sumbi get mad and she throw and she throws up Sangkuriang with the kendi. Kendi
is uh kendi is uh a tool for water made from clay <laugh>. It make Sangkuriang has get
amnesia. And after that Sangkuriang go away from the house eh..Dayang Sumbi ask Sangkuriang
to go somewhere. And for long long time, after that they meet again and Sangkuriang falls in love
with Dayang Sumbi. He doesn’t know that Dayang Sumbi is his mother because he gets amnesia.
Dayang Sumbi cannot uh she cannot refuse because because Sangkuriang force him too. And
Dayang Sumbi uh..she says yes with the … <asking help> syarat itu apa?…ya requirement. She
says yes with the requirement to make a dam in Citarum river and make a boat, a small boat.
Sangkuriang feels that he is able to make the dam and small boat. And after after the … and he
finally …he has done … he almost finish the job and Dayng Sumbi threat him bad with throw five
cloth eh scarf throw five white scarf to indicate that the morning uh this is already morning.
Sangkuriang gets mad and he kick …he kick the small boat until upside down oh and finally he
remind.everything. and he apologize to Dayang Sumbi and they live happily ever after as a mother
and a son.

Subject no. 5
Uh one day, there is a pig pregnant a human baby because the pig uh drink uh a king uh urine.
And uh from coconut. And the boy eh <laugh> the girl name Dayang Sumbi. And after that,
dayang Sumbi is grow up and he pregnant uh a baby and name Sangkuriang. And uh…uh he told
Sangkuriang to…to to look for uh…rusa itu apa ya? Uh apa ya rusa itu? To kill a …aku kok jadi
lupa ya…uhm deer ya? <asking help> uh Dayang Sumbi told Sangkuriang to kill the deer to take
the heart of the deer, but he…he don’t uhm aduh ceritane kok jadi lupa ya <laugh>…Sangkuriang
to kill the deer with an arrow and…uhm…busur itu…uh…and busur <laugh> to kill the deer but
he …he don’t kill the deer but he kill the dog to take the dog’s heart. And… but her
mother…uh…eh his mother uh…menumbuk…wants to make a rice by alu and lumpang. And
after sangkuriang back from his hunt, he bring uh … uh heart of deer but he tell his mother this is
not deer’s heart but anjingnya sapa ya? <asking help> ya Tumang heart. Then her mother hit
Sangkuriang …his head with…with kendi. And with…uh and besidethe rusa’s heart there is
bakul nasi <laugh>. And then sangkuriang running to eh kok running, dissapear. And one day,
Sangkuriang meet his mother in…in…a place.and Sangkuriang didn’t realize that uh that is his
mother and he falling in love with dayang Sumbi and Dayang sumbi give her uh give him a
challenge to…if Sangkuriang love her, Sangkuriang should build a river to…membendung…to
build a river. But Dayang Sumbi realize that Sangkuriang can do that. Then dayang
Sumbi…uh…throw selendang to uh… to cheating to cheating Sangkuriang bt San gkuriang realize
that Dayang Sumbi cheating him. And Sangkuriamng get angry and he kick the tadi apa perahu

…he, and after that he…realize that there is no uh.. the re is useless, tidak berguna, useless that
uh…and…he begin with another new life with his mother.

Once upon a time, uh there is a pig uh which eh who gave a birth to a daughter and her name is
Dayang Sumbi. He…he gave the birth because he d rink urine from the coconut uhm ok. And after
the daughetr grown up and become a woman he gave a birth to a son, his name is Sangkuriang.
One day, he told her son to go to the forest and bring her heart of deer and he went with uh…he
went with a busur and panah. And Dayng Sumbi stay with her alu and lumpang, she wanted
to…to make a rice. Uh but after a while,after some times, Sangkuriang came and he brought the
heart of deer and Dayang Sumbi cook it and he deserve it with the rice in…in its place but after
they ate…Sangkuriang told his mother that what they ate is not a heart of deer but heart of the
dog. And his mother very angry then she hit her son head with uh… kendi and told him to go away
from home nad never come back. Then one day they met each other, but because of amnesia,
sangkuriang didn’t remember about his mother and he fall in love with his mother but Dayang
Sumbi refuse him. But because Sangkuriang insist so Dayang Sumbi uh gave him two…conditions
that first he have to make uh…make a dam and th en he have to…uh…make aboat uh before the
sun rises in the morning. And he…and after while, he almost ready to make a boat but Dayang
Sumbi wa afraid and she run to the…to the…sea sore?…oh side of the river and she …what is
it?… she uh she…<laugh> she blow five of…<laugh>…it’s uh…five white selendang, and
Sangkuriang taught that the sun rises. And he became very angry and then he kick the nboat until
it upside down, and the boat became bigger and bigger and it become the mountain Tangkuban
Perahu. And after that sangkuriang get his memry back and he remember that Dayang Sumbi was
his mother and they live together as a mother and a child.

Subject no. 7
There is an old story about Sangkuriang. One day there is a … a pig. It drinks…and…it drinks the
urine of king from coconut. And then it…and then it has a baby and the baby name Dayang
Sumbi. And then after some years later, dayang Sumbi has a boy name sangkuriang. One day ,
dayang Sumbi wants his son to to catch the…the heart of the deer. Then sangkuriang tak e
the…<tape stopped> then sangkuriang bring anythings to go to the jungle. And then his mother
take alu and yes alu and lumpang, and then she make…she make the rice. After Sangkuriang back
to home, the mother Dayang Sumbi put the rice into the… the box, and then take and then put the
heart of the deer on the …on the uh…and then Sangkuriang put the heart of the deer on the banana
leaf and then they eat together. After they eat…Sangkuriang said to his mother that the heart of
the deer is not a deer heart, it’s a it’s dog heart, Tumang heart. And then his mother take the…take
the…uh…and then his mother take the place of the water and fight him. It cause Sangkuriang
can’t remember anything. And then after that, dayang Sumbi meets his son again. But Sangkuriang
ahsn’t Sangkuriang doesn’t remember that Dayang Sumbi is his own mother. Uh Sangkuriang falls
in love with his mother. But because his mother know that is her son, then she doesn’t want to
marry with Sangkuriang. But Sangkuriang still want to marry his mother. Then Dayang Sumbi
makes two…requirements, that is uh that are first, Sangkuriang have to make a little ship and the
second he have to build the…the dam and it must, it have to be built in one night before the
morning come. And then because Sangkuriang finish his work, Dayang Sumbi…and then Dayang
Sumbi fly the five…the five cotton it means that morning has come. And finally sangkuriang is
angry and she eh hekicks the little ship and then it becomes Tangkuban perahu mount. And then
sangkuriang and his mother live in peace now.

Subject no. 8
One day there was the pig had the baby. It was pregnant ebcause he drank king’s air kencing in
batok kelapa. The baby name Dayang Sumbi. After Dayang Sumbi grown up, she was pregnant
and had a baby name Sangkuriang. One day dayang Sumbi told sangkuriang to get panah and
busur to find a deer heart. And then uh Dayang Sumbi get uh alu and lumpang to
uh…menumbuk padi. Sangkuriang went with his dog name Tumang. After Sangkuriang went to
home, dayang Sumbi made the dinner. She put deer heart in a daun pisang and the rice in a bowl.
Sangkuriang told tat it wasn’t deer heart but it was uh his dog Tumpang heart. Dayang sumbi
became angry and hit his head with kendi. Sangkurtiang become amnesia and then…dayang

sumbi mengusir sangkuriang from the house. One day, they were meet. Because Sangkuriang was
amnesia so when he saw Dayang Sumbi, he became falling in love with her. Of course Dayang
Sumbi didn’t want it because she know that sangkuriang is her child. But sangkuriang try
to… pursue her. Uh…finally Dayang sumbi give two requirements, first is membending Citarum
river and make a boat. And then sangkuriang try to make it and Dayang Sumbi didn’t want uh
Sangkuriang finish it well, Sangku…uh Dayang Sumbi went to the side of the riv er and uh blow
five white selendang to show for sangkuriang tat it was uh sun rise. Uh…because of that,
sangkuriang become angry and then he uh kick the boat and it fall down and then become
Tangkuban perahu. Uh after that, Sangkuriang became recover again and then they live together
happliy as a mother and a child.

Subject no. 9
There is a pig drink from eh drink king’s p from uh coconut place and the baby was born. The
baby’s name was Dayang Sumbi. And Dayang Sumbi uh was grown up and she’s pregnant and
give birth to Sangkuriang. Uh one day sangkuriang…uh…want to take a deer heart and he…he
bring he bring an arrow and the utilities. Dayang sumbi take uh take a kind of stick for make a
rice uh…in lumpang. When he arrive at home, he give it to his mother and his mother was make
the rice in…uh… rice place. After they eat together, suddenly Sangkuriang says that this is not the
deer heart but this is a dog heart. And his mother was angry with him and he…he…eh she hit him
with kendi. Uh and Sangkuriang got amnesia and he run away from home. One day they meet
again. But because Sangkuriang was forgotten, uh he fall in love with dayang Sumbi. But dayang
Sumbi refuse him, she will be ok if Sangkuriang can fulfill two conditions. First he has to make a
river as a dam. And second, uh…he have to…he have to make a small boat. But because Dayang
Sumbi doesn’t want it work, she …give five long clothes to give information that morning ahs
come. And Sanmgkuriang was angry and he kick the small boat until become Tangkuban Perahu
mountain. Uh after…after he conscious about that, uh they live happily ever after.

Subject no. 10
Uh in the jungle uh there was a celeng, uh a celeng …uh drink urine from batok kelapa and
then…uh this celeng uh born a baby, name Dayang Sumbi. Uhm…aft er dayang sumbi was a dult,
dayang Sumbi born a baby name Sangkuriang. Uhm one day, Dayang sumbi ask her son to go
hunting a deer. Then sangkuriang take uh the arrow and the bow and Dayang Sumbi take uh…uh
alu and lumpang. After Sangkuriang return home, sangkuriang give the liver of the deer to his
mother and his mother uh cook the…that liver and put into the bakul nasi. Uh it’s the place for
the rice. Uh what is, what has eaten is the liver of the deer. Uhm and then uh after hearing is the
fact, his mother become furious and then she pu the kendi to his son head until the sangkuriang
become unconscious. And then Sangkuriang ask her to be his wife but dayang sumbi refuse him
and then uh…because Sangkuriang insists, then dayang sumbi ask him to to make a dam and a
small boat. Uh because snagkuriang almost finish the demand, uh dayang sumbi throw selendang,
a piece of cloth away. Then sdangkuriang angry and kick the..small boat until he become
conscious then he live with his mother again.

Subject no. 11
In the last time, there is uh a forest pig which is drinking uh king’s piss from uh
from…uh… batok kelapa. Uhm the forest pig suddenly born a child and name Dayang Sumbi.
Later on she born a boy and name him uh sangkuriang. One day Dayang Sumbi tell his son to hunt
deer and take the uh the uh the heart. Sangkuriang took the arrow and uh busur, and Dayang
Sumbi uh make the rice into small part using uh alu and lumpang, the traditional tool in Javanese.
In the afternoon, Sangkuriang come and then Dayang sumbi cook the heart and lay on the banana
leaf and rice lay on the uh…bakul nasi. After that, Sangkuriang told eh after they eating he tells
the truth that the heart is not the deer heart but dog’s heart. His mother angry and then throw the
kendi to Sangkuriang’s hea d. A long long time then they meet and Sangkuriang fall in love with
Dayang Sumbi because he forget anything about his life. For the first time, Dayang Sumbi don’t
want but then she ask Sangkuriang to make a small boat and uh to…uh membendung…uh stop the
Citarum river into one area and only in one night. Dayang Sumbi don’t want to marry Sangkuriang
so she uh she fly away the / / <laugh> to show that morning come and Sangkuriang fail.
Sangkuriang angry and kick the boat until uh…uh turn over and it be come uh Tangkuban Perahu
mountain. Then Sangkuriang realize and they live happy with his mother.

In the forest there is a pig that can born a child. This pig can born a child because this pig drinks a
king’s piss from the uh… coconut. And uh this child growing up uh and this child is a girl, and uh
her name is Dayang Sumbi. And after the Dayang Sumbi become a woman, Dayang Sumbi have a
child and someday Dayang Sumbi told her son to hunt in the forest, use uh bow and arrow. After
that uh after that the child hunt in the forest and he hunt a deer. His mother blend the rice in the uh
lumpang and alu <laugh>. After that uh her son come home and give the heart to her mother to be
cook. After her mother cook and put the rice in rice cooker, uh her son told her mother that heart
is not a deer’s heart but his dog’s heart. After that her mother angry and her mother hit her son in
the head with kendi <laugh> and the son becomes amnesia. After years later, her mother meet
with her son and after that her son falling in love with her mother because that son don’t know he
that he falling in love with her with her with his own mother. Because her mother know that her
son that that boy is her son, that mother give some condition to that son that son married her. First
that the son have to make a aqueduct. Second he has to make a boat. And that son almost fulfill
that requirement. Uh before that before the son fulfill the requirement, her mother throw five
silks…to to make the…the to make it as if that the sun h ave arrive. So her son angry and her son
kick that boat and that boat become Tangkuban Perahu.

Subject no. 13
Once upon a time, there was a celeng <laughs>. Uh It uh the celeng uh drinks from the… coconut
skin and then finally she gave births…aaaaand she h as a daughter who has name Dayang Sumbi.
Dayang sumbi has a son and his name is uh Sangkuriang. On one day Dayang sumbi ask her son
to take arrow and uh the archers? <scratching his frown> eh masa archers sih? Uh o ya arch…to
find a deer because she wants to eat uh a deer’s heart. And then sangkuriang fowled her mother’s
order and find a deer. Finally uh and her mother prepare the tools to make uh a deer meat. Finally
sangkuriang went to find a deer but uh until in the afternoon he has got nothing. And then, he
remember that he has a dog and he tries to … <looking at the picture deeply> he tries to….he tries
to full his mother by kill the dog and never tell what kind of meat is that. And then uh sangkuriang
catch the dog and kill him. And then he took his heart and give it to his mother but say that it’s the
deer’s heart, and then they’re going have a dinner together. Uhm the rice is in the uh rice place.
And after the dinner sangkuriang said to his mother that it was the dog’s heart. And her mother
was very angry and took kendi. Kendi is something like uh things to have uh the water. And
then he throw it to sangkuriang head and uh make the sangkuriang heads wounded and bleeding.
And finally sangkuriang run from that from his house and he had an amnesia. He forgot everything
he remembered. He forgot that uh he has a mother his name is and then a few months later uh he
saw a woman. And then sangkuriang falls in love with her and try to know her. But the girl is
Dayang Sumbi. And dayang sumbi realize that uh the boy who fall in love with her was her son.
And then uh she….and then she asked the conditions that Sangkuriang must block the Citarum
river and built a big boat uh before morning. And he only have time only a day. And then
sangkuriang try to do his best. And he almost finish his job but her mother interrupted his job with
he took uh…a rooster and then she take five silk to…<laughs> to inform that as a signal that it
was already morning. And then uh sangkuriang very disappointed and kick the boat and the boat
becomes a mountain. Nowadays uh the mountains was called as tangkuban perahu mountains. And
then finally after that incidents, sangkuriang remember again about himself and about his mother
and then they live happily ever after as a mother and a son.

Subject no. 14
Uhm there is a pig drink a water from the coconut part and birth a female baby. Her name is
Dayang Sumbi. After she grow up, she also birth a male baby name Sangkuriang. Sangkuriang is
very strong so Dayang Sumbi ask him to hunt in the forest uhm a deer uh deer’s heart. Dayang
Sumbi ask Sangkuriang to bring arrow, uhm busur <laugh> and his dog, si Tumang. After that
Dayang Sumbi cook the rice using the eh prepare the rice uhm use uhm smashing device?
<laugh> and uhm the place and then she cook the rice and put in the bakul nasi. In the night they
ate together but after eating Sangkuriang tell his mom that it wasn’t the deer’s heart but the
Tumang’s heart. Of course listening it Dayang Sumbi angry and hit Sangkuriang’s head with
…uhm kendi. Then Sangkuriang got anemia and left his home. One day, they meet each other and
Sangkuriang fall in love with Dayang Sumbi. Dayang Sumbi give two conditions that Sangkuriang

do all but she uhm his mother wave the uhm…the selendang <laugh>. Sangkuriang angry and he
kick the small ship and he realize and they live happy forever.

Subject no. 15
One day, in the jungle there is a wild pig drinks the urine from the uhm batok kelapa. And then
the wild pig uhm born a child, and she gave name her uhm Dayang Sumbi. After she becomes
adult, she then born a child and she named him Sangkuriang. One day, after Sangkuriang grow up,
she is asking Sangkuriang to find the deer’s heart and then give it to her. He uhm took the panah
and busur and Dayang Sumbi took alu and lumpang. After that, uhm after Sangkuriang find the
deer’s heart, Dayang Sumbi eat it with the rice in the bakul nasi. After finish eating, Sangkuriang
say to Dayang Sumbi that the heart is not the deer’s heart but the dog’s heart. Finally Dayang
Sumbi angry and hit Sangkuriang’s head with uhm kendi. One day they meet again and
Sangkuriang fall in love with Dayang Sumbi. Dayang Sumbi reject and give uhm the requirements
to Sangkuriang that has to do. First is he had to uhm to build the dam in Citarum river and build a
small boat. Sangkuriang start doing and he almost finish but Dayang Sumbi try to fail his works by
