Narrator : Once upon a time, in a place deep inside the forest, there were a green giant named Buto
Ijo and two sacred hermits. They were best friends. One day, the hermit came to the grotto to see
his best friends.

Hermit 1: There you are, my best friend, what are you doing?

Buto Ijo: Eating.

Hermit 1: Oh… no wonder. What are you eating?

Buto Ijo: [No response, just continue eating]

Hermit 2: [Just wake up, yawning] Hey, buddy. How are you? [shake Wise Hermit’s hand] Oh, I have
something you have to know. [searching for something]. Umm… before I slept I put my invention
here. Did you see it, Mr. Green? [asks to Buto Ijo]

Buto ijo : You mean some cucumber seeds? [remembering] Oh, I swallowed it with my meal. [laugh
annoyingly]

Hermit 2: What!!! [very angry]. You ate it?

Buto Ijo: [nod his head] Like dust.

Hermit 2: Oh my God!! It’s not ordinary cucumber seeds! It’s a magic one. If you plant it on the
ground, it will grow a big golden cucumber and there will be a baby inside it! That’s my greatest

Narator : Dahulu kala, di suatu tempat jauh di dalam hutan, ada raksasa hijau bernama Buto Ijo dan
dua pertapa suci. Mereka adalah teman baik. Suatu hari, pertapa datang ke gua untuk melihat
sahabatnya.

Pertapa 1 : Ini kamu, sahabatku, apa yang kamu lakukan

Buto Ijo : Makan.

Pertapa 1 : Oh… tidak heran. Apa yang kamu makan?

Buto Ijo : [Tidak ada respon, lanjutkan saja makan]

Pertapa 2 : [Baru bangun, menguap] Hei, sobat. Apa kabar? [berjabat tangan Pertapa Bijaksana] Oh,
saya memiliki sesuatu yang harus Anda ketahui. [mencari sesuatu]. Umm… sebelum saya tidur saya
meletakkan penemuan saya di sini. Apakah Anda melihatnya, Tuan Green? [tanya ke Buto Ijo]

Buto ijo : Maksudmu biji mentimun? [mengingat] Oh, saya menelannya dengan makanan saya.

Act 2

Narrator : One day, there was pleasant couple. They lived in a village near the forest. They lived
happily. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any children yet. Everyday they prayed to God for a child.

Mother : Oh God… please give us a child. I promise I will always protect my child. Please answer our
prayer. Thank you God.

Narrator: The green giant, Buto Ijo, by chances passed by the couple’s house. He heard what they
were praying for.

Buto Ijo: Whoa…ha…ha…ha! I heard that!

Mother : [gasps] Oh my God! W-Who are you?

Buto Ijo: I’m Buto Ijo.

Father : [comes toward his wife] What? Who is that, honey

Mother : Oh my husband, Buto Ijo is in front of our house. I’m scared. He will kill both of us!

Buto Ijo: Whoa…ha…ha…ha… I’m not going to kill you. But I will fulfill your request to have a child.

Father : You are just joking, aren’t you?

Buto Ijo: No…No… I’m serious. If you don’t believe me it doesn’t matter.

Mother : All right…. My husband, let’s see what he can do to help us.

Buto Ijo: [Gives the seeds] Look, here are some cucumber seeds. Plant these seeds, then you’ll get a
daughter.

Buto Ijo : Saya Buto Ijo.

Ayah : [datang ke arah istrinya] Apa? Siapa itu, sayang?

Ibu : Oh suamiku, Buto Ijo ada di depan rumah kita. Saya takut. Dia akan membunuh kita berdua!

Buto Ijo : Whoa…ha…ha…ha… aku tidak akan membunuhmu. Tapi aku akan memenuhi
permintaanmu untuk memiliki anak.

Ayah: Kamu hanya bercanda, bukan?

Buto Ijo : Tidak… Tidak… Saya serius. Jika Anda tidak mempercayai saya, itu tidak masalah.

Ibu : Baiklah…. Suamiku, mari kita lihat apa yang bisa dia lakukan untuk membantu kita.

Narrator : The next day, the couple planted the seeds. Months later, a golden cucumber grew in the
yard. The cucumber was getting bigger and bigger each day.

Mother : Look! Look! The cucumber grew very big! It’s so fantastic!

Father : Yeah, you right. What a very big one.

Mother : It’s ripe already. Does it work? How can this big thing give us a daughter?

Father : I don’t know. Don’t ask me.

Mother : I think it’s time for us to open it up. I wonder what makes it’s so big. Don’t you think so?

Father : Yes. Let’s cut it into two.

Act 4

Narrator : Years passed by and Timun Mas grew into a lovely girl. Her parents were very proud of her
but their hearts hurt so badly when they remembered their promise to Buto Ijo. The couple then
remembered that there was a sacred hermit living inside the forest. So they went there for the help.

Mother : [Knocking the door] Excuse us.

Hermit 2: [Comes toward the door and opens it] May I ask who you both are?

Mother : My name is Sarni. This is my husband. We both are farmers living in the village near the
forest.

Hermit 2: What do you want from me?

Father : We need your help.

Hermit 2: Okay, please come in. Tell me the story.

Narrator: The couple told the hermit about their wish and how Buto Ijo fulfilled it. And also the
promise they made with the Giant. The hermit listened to them carefully as him nodded for the
umpteenth time, until the couple finished their story.

Hermit 2: Oh! Yes, I know it exactly. He hid my invention, some magic cucumber seeds, then gave it
to you both to get a child, is it right? Hmm….we need to do something to revenge his greed.

Mother : Please, good Hermit, help us. Don’t let Buto Ijo take one dearest daughter.

Father : My wife is right, good hermit. What shall we do?

Hermit 2: Okay, okay. Easy. I have several “little” invention. Look, here is the bundle. There are four
things and messages inside. They will help Timun Mas run away from the giant.

Father : [Takes the bundle] Are you sure they will work?

Hermit 2: Trust me, it works. Buto Ijo must be punished for his action.

Narator: Pasangan itu memberi tahu pertapa tentang keinginan mereka dan bagaimana Buto Ijo
memenuhinya. Dan juga janji yang mereka buat dengan Raksasa. Pertapa itu mendengarkan mereka
dengan hati-hati saat dia mengangguk untuk kesekian kalinya, sampai pasangan itu menyelesaikan
cerita mereka.

Pertapa 2 : Aduh! Ya, saya tahu persis. Dia menyembunyikan penemuan saya, beberapa biji
mentimun ajaib, lalu memberikannya kepada Anda berdua untuk mendapatkan seorang anak,
bukan? Hmm….kita perlu melakukan sesuatu untuk membalas keserakahannya.

Ibu : Tolong, pertapa yang baik, bantu kami. Jangan sampai Buto Ijo mengambil salah satu putri
tersayang.

Ayah : Istri saya benar, pertapa yang baik. Apa yang harus kita lakukan?

Pertapa 2 : Oke, oke. Mudah. Saya memiliki beberapa penemuan "kecil". Lihat, ini bundelnya. Ada

Narrator : It so happened that one day on Timun Mas’s seventeenth birthday, Buto Ijo came for the
couple’s promise.

Buto Ijo: Whoa…ha…ha… Hey, peasant, where is your lovely daughter? I come here to pick her up.
Remember the promise you said to me!

Father : Please be patient, Buto Ijo. Timun Mas, my daughter, is playing in the field.

Buto Ijo: I know you’re lying! But never mind, I’ll find her by myself! [Turns away to find Timun Mas]

Father : He’s gone. Timun Mas, come here, child.

Timun Mas : Yes, daddy, I’m coming. Who’s that?

Mother : He is Buto Ijo, the green giant. For some reason, he’s looking for you. I’m sure he’ll come

Narrator : After that, the giant chased Timun Mas and he was getting closer and closer. Timun Mas

appeared between them.

Buto Ijo: [Smirks] Ho…ho…ho. You think you can run away from me! No way! Whoa…ha…ha…ha. I’ll
get you! [Swims through the sea]

Timun Mas: Oh my God! How did he do that?? I don’t know he can swim!

Buto Ijo: Wait for me, you little girl!

Timun Mas: Oh no! He’s getting closer to me. There’s no other choice! Take this, giant!

Narrator : And then she took the chili seeds and threw them at the giant. Suddenly the seeds grew
into some trees and trapped him. The next thing he knew, the trees grew some thorns as sharp as a
knife.

Buto Ijo: Ouch…Ouch! It hurts badly!

Timun Mas: Take that one too, evil creature!

Buto Ijo: So, you want to play with me huh? You’ll regret it when you lose!

Timun Mas: Oh no! He is still chasing me! I must run faster!

Narrator : Once again, the giant almost caught Timun Mas. So, Timun Mas took the cucumber seeds
and threw them onto the ground.

Buto Ijo: What now? What’s this? Cucumbers are everywhere! They look delicious! I guess it’s better
for me to have appetizers first.

Timun Mas : Hosh…Hosh…Oh I’m out of breath. But the giant was eating the cucumbers. This is
my chance to run away!

Buto Ijo: [Yawns] Whoaaah…I’m very sleppy. I want to sleep first. After that I’ll find Timun Mas. Wait

Narrator : Timun Mas kept on running as fast as she could. But soon she was very tired herself. And
things were getting worse as the giant had woken up.

Buto Ijo: Whoaaah…I’m fresh again! Hey, Timun Mas, you can’t run away from me. I’ll get you!

Timun Mas: Oh, God, he has woken up! What shall I do, God? Please help me!

Buto Ijo: So, you want to play hide and seek, don’t you? Where are you? C’mon, c’mon little girl…

turned into a big swamp.

Narrator : The giant fell into the swamp but his hands almost reached Timun Mas. Suddenly the
swamp pulled him to the bottom and his hands lost her.

Timun Mas: Finally I’m free!

Buto Ijo: Oh, no… help! Help me! Someone help me!

Timun Mas: No one will help you, giant, because you’re a bad person.

Buto Ijo: Please help me…!! I swear I won’t do something bad again! Promise me!

Hermit 1: [comes out of the blue] Are you sure about your words?

Buto Ijo: Arggh… Hermit! Finally you come! Please help me!

Timun Mas : [shocks] Who are you?

Narrator : Finally, the good hermit helped Buto Ijo, his best friend. As soon as the giant got out of
the swamp, it was disappear. Then the giant apologized to Timun Mas as well as to the hermits.

Fortunately they forgave him. From then on, Buto Ijo lived as a good giant and always helped the
peasants with their fields. As for Timun Mas, she lived happily with her parents with no fear
anymore.

Narator : Setelah itu raksasa itu mengejar Timun Mas dan dia semakin dekat. Timun Mas lalu
mengambil segenggam garam dari bungkusan itu. Dia menyebarkan garam dan secara ajaib lautan
luas muncul di antara mereka.

Timun Mas : Ambillah raksasa jahat itu!

Buto Ijo : [Tersenyum] Ho…ho…ho. Anda pikir Anda bisa lari dari saya! Mustahil! Wah…ha…ha…ha.

Timun Mas : Ambil yang itu juga, makhluk jahat!

Narator : Sekali lagi raksasa itu hampir menangkap Timun Mas. Jadi, Timun Mas mengambil biji
mentimun dan membuangnya ke tanah.

Buto Ijo : Bagaimana sekarang? Apa ini? Ketimun ada di mana-mana! Mereka terlihat lezat! Saya kira
lebih baik bagi saya untuk memiliki makanan pembuka terlebih dahulu.

Timun Mas : Hosh…Hosh…Oh aku kehabisan nafas. Tapi raksasa itu memakan mentimun. Ini adalah

malam ini!

Narator : Timun Mas terus berlari secepat mungkin. Tapi segera dia sendiri sangat lelah. Dan
keadaan menjadi lebih buruk saat raksasa itu terbangun.

Buto Ijo : Whoaaah… aku sudah segar kembali! Hei, Timun Mas, kamu tidak bisa lari dariku. Aku akan
mendapatkanmu! Hohoho…

Timun Mas : Ya Tuhan, dia sudah bangun! Apa yang harus saya lakukan, Tuhan? Tolong bantu aku!

Buto Ijo : Jadi, kamu mau main petak umpet, kan? Kamu ada di mana? Ayo, ayo gadis kecil…
datanglah ke ayah!

Timun Mas : Tuhan! Tolong bantu aku!!

Buto Ijo : Ini dia, gadis kecil! Satu langkah lagi dan aku akan menangkapmu!

Timun Mas : Ini adalah harapan terakhirku! [Melempar sesuatu] Ambil itu, Buto Ijo!

Narator : Dengan putus asa dia kemudian melemparkan senjata terakhirnya, terasi. Ajaibnya, pasta
itu berubah menjadi rawa besar.

Buto Ijo : Oh, tidak, apa ini? Sangat lengket dan bau amis! Timun Mas…! Aku bersumpah akan
menelanmu begitu aku menangkapmu!

Narator : Raksasa itu jatuh ke rawa tapi tangannya hampir mencapai Timun Mas. Tiba-tiba rawa
menariknya ke bawah dan tangannya kehilangan dia.

Timun Mas : Akhirnya aku bebas!

Buto Ijo : Oh, tidak… tolong! Tolong aku! Seseorang tolong aku!

Timun Mas : Tidak ada yang akan membantumu, raksasa, karena kamu orang jahat.

Buto Ijo : Tolong bantu saya…!! Aku bersumpah aku tidak akan melakukan hal buruk lagi! Berjanjilah
padaku!

Pertapa 1 : [tiba-tiba muncul] Apa kamu yakin dengan kata-katamu?

Buto Ijo : Arggh… Pertapa! Akhirnya kamu datang! Tolong bantu aku!

Timun Mas : [terkejut] Siapa kamu?

Pertapa 1 : [Memalingkan wajahnya ke Timun Mas] Ah, apa aku membuatmu takut? Biarkan saya
memperkenalkan diri. Saya seorang pertapa. Jadi panggil saja aku pertapa. Anda tidak perlu tahu
nama asli saya. Dan raksasa ini adalah sahabatku.

Buto Ijo : Ya, saya sahabatnya! Tolong keluarkan aku dari sini!

Pertapa 1 : [Berbalik ke Buto Ijo] Aku akan membantumu jika kamu berjanji tidak akan melakukan
hal buruk lagi dan berhenti menjadi orang yang serakah.

Buto Ijo : Ya, saya berjanji! Saya berjanji akan menjadi orang baik! Anda dapat mengandalkan saya!

Narator : Akhirnya pertapa yang baik itu membantu Buto Ijo, sahabatnya. Begitu raksasa itu keluar
dari rawa, dia menghilang. Kemudian raksasa tersebut meminta maaf kepada Timun Mas sekaligus
kepada para pertapa.

Untungnya mereka memaafkannya. Sejak saat itu, Buto Ijo hidup sebagai raksasa yang baik hati dan
selalu membantu para petani di ladangnya. Sedangkan Timun Mas hidup bahagia bersama orang
tuanya tanpa rasa takut lagi.
