Example of Procedure Text
How to Make Fried Rice
There are many foods in this country. One of them is fried rice. To make fried
rice is quite easy. Follow the steps below:
White rice thats previously cooked
- Salt
2 carrots
- Ginger
Yellow onion
- Shrimp, chicken, tofu
Garlic
-Soy sauce
3 eggs
Bean sprouts
- Sesame oil
Black pepper
- Green onion
1. First of all, Prepare 4 cups of cooked
2. Second, Wash the vegetables, then dice the carrots and onions into small pieces. Set
them aside for the next step
3. Next, oil and heat up the pan to 100 degrees
4. Toss the vegetables into the pan for about 3 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon of salt into the
pan
5. Boil the chicken or shrimp with rest of the ingredients (optional)
6. Then, Put a bit more oil into the frying pan
7. Add an egg and scramble with other ingredients
8. Toss the rice in carefully
9. Add approximately 2 to 3 tablespoons of soy sauce while frying
10. Finally, Put fried rice on a dish and its ready to serve!
Definition
A text that shows a process in order.
A kind of text which teaches on how to make something completely. Procedure text is
dominantly structured with imperative sentence. It usually explains the ingredient or material
which is needed. Moreover, it will explain step by step how to make the thing.
Types of Procedure Text
Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity
For example: recipes, rules for games, science experiments, road safety rules, how to
do it manuals.
Texts that instruct how to operate things
For example: how to operate an appliance, a machine, the photocopier, the computer
Social Function
To describe how something is completely done through a sequence of series.
Generic Structure
1. Goal:
Showing the purpose
2. Material:
Telling the needed materials
3. Step
Describing the steps to achieve the purpose
Language Feature

The text usually:


a. is written in the simple present tense (do this, do that)
b. focuses on generalized people rather than individuals (first you take, rather
than first I take)
c. uses action verbs (cut, cook, pour, add, etc.)
d. uses temporal conjunctions (first, second, after that, then, next, finally) used to
connect the text.
e. uses detailed description (shape, size, color, amount)
Imperative Sentence
A type of sentence that gives advice or instructions or that expresses a request or
command. An imperative sentence typically begins with the base form of a verb,
For example:
You are angry with your friend and you want him/her to leave the r room.
You say= GO OUT!
Other examples:
Open your book, please!
Be careful!
Let me help you!
