Tujuan Pembelajaran

6. menyusun teks prosedur sederhana sesuai tujuan
komunikatif, struktur dan ciri kebahasaan dengan benar.
Definition, Purpose, Kinds, Generic Structure and Language
Features of Procedure Text
A. The definition (arti) of procedure text
Procedure text is a text that is designed to describe how
something is achieved through a sequence of actions or steps.
(Teks prosedur adalah teks yang dirancang untuk
menggambarkan bagaimana sesuatu dicapai melalui urutan
tindakan atau langkah-langkah).

B. The purpose/aim/goal (tujuan) of procedure text

The purpose of procedure text is to tell the reader how to do
or make something through a sequence of actions or steps.
(Tujuan dari teks prosedur adalah untuk memberitahu
pembaca bagaimana melakukan atau membuat sesuatu
melalui urutan tindakan atau langkah-langkah).
C. The Kinds (macam/jenis) of procedure text
There are some kinds of procedure text that we can find in real life
as the following
• Procedure text yang menjelaskan bagaimana sesuatu bekerja
atau bagaimana menggunakan instruksi/operasi manual.
Misalnya how to operate computer, how to record video, how to
use a mixer, etc.
• Procedure text yang menginstruksikan bagaimana melakukan
aktivitas tertentu.
Misalnya how to make a noodle, how to dance, how to play
basketball, etc.
• Procedure text yang berhubungan dengan perilaku manusia.
Misalnya how to succeed, how to live happily, how to be a good
person, etc.
D. The Generic Structure (susunan umum) of procedure text
• Title : biasanya berisi tujuan dari suatu kegiatan atau hal
yang akan dilakukan atau dibuat nantinya. Judul teks
kadang bersifat opsional (tidak selalu tertera/tertulis)
• Materials (ingredients/tools) : materi biasanya berupa
bahan-bahan atau alat-alat yang dibutuhkan dalam
melakukan suatu hal dalam procedure text. Materials
bersifat opsional atau tidak selalu ada, misal how to live
happily maka alat dan bahan tidak diperlukan
• Steps/methods/ways : merupakan serangkaian langkah-
langkah atau tips yang harus dilakukan untuk mencapai
tujuan.
E. Language Features (unsur/ciri kebahasaan) of procedure text
1. Kalimat pada bagian sequence of steps berupa command (perintah) sehingga
menggunakan verb 1 (kata kerja bentuk 1) yang ditempatkan di awal kalimat.
Dalam imperative mood (subjek kalimat tidak perlu ditambahkan karena
“you” sudah tersirat).

Contoh Imperative

You Add water to the mixture.

(Tambahkan air ke dalam campuran tersebut.)

You Beat egg whites until they are stiff.

(Kocok putih telur hingga kaku.)

2. Procedure text menggunakan number (penomoran) atau sequence of adverb

untuk menunjukkan urutan pengerjaan tugas.

Contoh Sequence of Adverb

first, second, next, after, finally/at last

3. Penggunaan adverbial (berupa prepositional phrase)

untuk memberikan informasi durasi/waktu (how long?
when?), tempat/posisi (where?), dan/atau cara (how?)
suatu tindakan seharusnya dilakukan.

Contoh Adverbial
a. Pour the batter into cupcake cups.
(Tuang adonan ke dalam mangkuk
cupcake.) tempat

b. Cook them for 5 minutes.

(Masak mereka selama 5 menit) durasi waktu

Title How to Make Blackforest
Ingredients • 7 eggs
• 1 tea spoon of baking powder
• 1 ½ glass of flour
• 1 glass of sugar
• 1 tablespoon of chocholate powder
• 2 tablespoons of melted chocholate
• 250 gram of melted butter
Steps 1. Prepare a big bowl, pour eggs, baking powder and sugar.
2. Mix them till smooth.
3. Pour the melted chocholate, chocholate powder and melted
butter.
4. Stir well with spatula.
5. After you prepare the baking pan which cover with the butter and
flour, pour the dough into it.
6. Bake it for 30 minutes.
7. The blackforest cake is ready to be served.

• It would probably not cook well if we baked the blackforest for 15 minutes
only.
10. According to you, what kind of utensil do you need to make blackforest?
• In my opinion, we need a big bowl, mixer, stove, sauce pan, spatula, baking
pan, oven and serving plate to make blackforest.
