TO CELEBRATE THE UN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE DAY
ON 23 APRIL 2020
 PENDAHULUAN

Puji syukur ke hadirat Illahi rabbi yang telah melimpahkan segala nikmat dan karunia-nya
kepada kita semua, shalawat dan salaam tidak lupa kita haturkan kepada Rasul kita Muhammad
Shalallaahu ‘alayhi wa salaam yang telah bersusah payah untuk menyampaikan risalah dari-
nya agar menjadi rahmat bagi semesta alam.

Alhamdulillaah hari ini kita masih diberi nikmat sehat, sehingga kita dapat merancang acara
yang sangat ditunggu-tunggu ini SPELLING BEE CONTEST BY GIBBI dalam rangka memperingati
The UN English Language Day pada 23 April 2020 ini.

Umumnya kita telah mengetahui sejarah lahirnya Bahasa Inggris. Nyatanya telah berdampak
sangat baik bagi peradaban ini. Dengan bahasa, kita dapat saling memahami dan
berkorespondensi dengan baik mengingat, Bahasa Inggris telah diakui sebagai salahsatu
Bahasa terpenting di dunia, untuk membuat orang di berbagai belahan negara saling
terhubung. Hal itulah yang membuat kami merasa sangat antusias untuk dapat memberikan
sumbangsih bagi bangsa ini, untuk mencerdaskan anak-anak Indonesia, serta merangkul anak-
anak Indonesia agar terus semangat berprestasi dan tidak pernah berhenti menyongsong
masa depan cemerlang untuk membangun bangsa ini, melanjutkan perjuangan-perjuangan
kita semua untuk Indonesia yang lebih baik.

Spelling Bees are a long-running tradition that encourages young children to develop
their spelling skills and
vocabulary, as well as developing their poise for public speaking. Though the rules
and regulations vary
according to the state or local area, the premise of the competition is the same as
youngsters are pitted against
one another with the aim of becoming champion and perhaps going on to represent
their state in the National
Spelling Bees
Competition.

TUJUAN PENYELENGGARAAN ACARA

1. Memperingati The UN Languange Day pada tanggal 23 April 2020

2. Memacu semangat putra dan putri bangsa Indonesia untuk senantiasa
mengembangkan dan mengasah bakat-nya.
3. Menumbuhkan kesadaran betapa pentingnya menguasai Bahasa Inggris di masa
sekarang untuk menghadapi MEA (Masyarakat Ekonomi Asean) di masa mendatang.
4. Menumbuhkan rasa nasionalisme anak bangsa( merangkul mereka agar sadar betapa
pentingnya melatih kompetensi dan potensi untuk membangun bangsa ini)
5. Menyadarkan semua pihak, bahwa belajar Bahasa Inggris itu tidak sulit dan
membosankan.

KETERANGAN MENGENAI ACARA

A. Who do we need for a Spelling Bee?

 There are three important actors in a Spelling Bee:

1. The participants
2. The judges
3. Two pronouncers
B. How do we set up a Spelling Bee contest ?

In order to set up successful Spelling Bee contests, it is important to divide participants

into different categories based on their level of English, and to create appropriate wordlists
for each.

For Brainwave, we have created three spelling categories:

1. Star spellers: Levels 1 and 2

2. Smart spellers: Levels 3 and 4
3. Super spellers: Levels 5 and 6

berjalan. Kedepannya akun ini akan digunakan untuk sounding kegiatan-kegiatan terbaru
GIBBI, promosi berbayar dan ataupun tidak berbayar setelah rubik postingan sudah bagus dan
memiliki nilai jual di pandangan audience. Adapun aspek-aspek yang diperlukan untuk rubik
postingan akun sosial media GIBBI adalah:

1. Kualitas foto-foto kegiatan yang sedang dan akan berjalan di GIBBI ( Supported Camera:
HP/ Camera)
2. Design untuk feeds timeline sosial media ( Photoshop sudah ada di PC Ibu MV, dan
Adobe Illustrator belum ada)
3. Coppy Writting
4. Ide- ide konten untuk mengisi feeds-nya agar lebih komunikatif dan bersahabat.
b. Bekerjasama dengan Media Televisi, Majalah, Koran yang memuat kolom tentang
pendidikan, dan lain sebagainya.
 1. Semua team GIBBI harus memahami dengan baik Visi dan Misi GIBBI yang
sesungguhnya.

Spelling Bee Contest for Junior High School and Senior High School Level

MASTER SPELLER The master speller is the person on stage that reads the words
to the spellers from the specified words list that is
to be used in the competition. The list consists of words founding books approved by
English Panel, such as
Longman Dictionary. The master speller appointed is
Pn Nelly Ajim

JUDGES The judges have ultimate control of the competition. They can correct
errors as soon as they see them if they
believe the rules have been breached, or that the master speller has made errors in
his pronunciation or
definition of a word. Appeals can be made from the spellers as well as their parents
or teachers, but
they must be done so immediately. Appeals are handled at the end of each round

TIME KEEPER Only one time keeper is appointed. The time keeper needs to ring
the bell twice after 90 seconds as soon as the
master speller pronounces a particular word.

MASTER OF CEREMONY (M.C) The master of ceremony will conduct the event
such as calling the speller and welcoming all the participants
and members of the floor. The M.C will begin the event and end the event.

RULES AND
REGULATIONS

1. Introduction1.1 The competition will be an oral spelling competition.1.2 The

competition will
held in Computer Lab of SK. Pekan Pitas , at 8.30 a.m. , on the 13th April
2012 (Friday).
2. Rules of the
COMPETITION.
a. All the spellers will be given a number to determine their spelling turns.
The numbers will
be randomly drawn from a
box/container
b. All the spellers will be seated in numerical order on a stage, facing the
audience, master speller, timekeeper
and judges.
c. The official/teacher-in-charge will prepare the words, definition of the
words and sample
sentenc
es.
d. Each speller beginning with speller number one will called to the front
and the master speller
will read out the words to be spelt.3. Each speller is given 60 seconds
to spell the words once
the master speller has pronounced the word. A bell will be rung
twice after 60 seconds

3. Spellers are strongly encourage saying the words, spelling it and then repeat it
when they have
finished spelling it. However the judges will not disqualify any speller for
failing to pronounce the
word either before or after
spelling it.
4. By saying the word aloud before spelling it, the speller has a chance to confirm
what they have
hear
d.
5. If the speller says the words differently from what the master speller has
pronounced, the master
speller will clarify the word by repeating the word
to the speller.
6. If the speller fails to complete the spelling within the 60 seconds time frame,
the speller will be
disqualified / dropped from the
competition.
7. The spellers are only allowed once to ask for the word to be repeated during
the 60 seconds time

8. Once a speller begins spelling a word, he or she may pause and start all over
from the beginning
within the time
frame.
9. All the words spelled during the competition must follow the British standard of
English. Other
types of spelling like the American variation will
not be accepted.
10. The judges will be in control of the competition. Their decision will be final on
all questions and
no objections will be
entertained.
a. After spelling the word, if the spelling is correct, the judge will announce
„CORRECT .́ If
the speller is incorrect the judge will press the buzzer and
announce „INCORRECT ́
b. If the spelling is correct, the speller will return
to his/her seat.
c. If the spelling is incorrect, the speller will be dropped from the
competition. The master
speller will give the correct spelling of the word and the speller will
have to leave the stage.
d. The next speller is then called to the stage and given
his/her word to spell.
e. Once all the spellers have had their turns, the round is over and the next
round begins with
 the remaining
spellers.
f. This continues until only five
spellers remain.
g. The last five spellers to remain will be declared the winners and will
qualify to participate
at district
level.
11. Official dictionary.
a. When it comes to spelling bees, nothing is more important than making
sure
the spelling is proper. The official source to determine the proper
spelling in spelling bee is
LONGMAN dictionary of contemporary English. All words that are used
in a
spelling bee can be found in this edition of the
Longman‟s dictionary

a) Registration

Fill in the form that is given by the commitee completly, and return it as soon as it is completed,
if you have any questions, you can contact the CP( Contact Person that is given)

b) The Rules in The Contest Area

 Come to the contest area in Pejaten Village Mall minimal 15 minutes earlier to
do a briefing.
 Participants should not leaving the area without permit.
c) The Contest Rules
The prounouncer will clearly pronounce the word two times. You should pronounce the word
and say each letter distictly. You will have two minutes to spell the word. At the end of the
word, you should say the word again. You won’t be disqualified if you don’t say the word at the
beginning and end of the spelling, but it helps the judges to know when you are beginning and
ending. You may ask the pronouncer to repeat the word, define it, use it in a sentence, provide
the part of speech, provide the language of origin.

a. “ Can you repeat the word?”

b. “ Can I have a definition, please?”
c. “ Can you use it in a sentence, please?”
d. “ Can I have the part of speech,please?” i.e. noun, verb, adjective, etc.

must spell one word per round. Rounds 1–3 There are three initial rounds where participants
accumulate points according to the number of words spelled correctly.

1. Word spelled correctly = 5 points (green flag)

2. Word spelled incorrectly = 0 points (red flag)
3. In rounds 1–3, participants are allowed to start again even if they have misspelled the
word, as long as it is during the time frame specified and before the second repetition.
After this point they will be flagged and cannot repeat the word. Note that this is only
permitted during the first three rounds and does not apply to the final round.
4. After rounds 1–3, the judges add up the participant’s points in order to see who passes
to the final rounds. Only participants with 15 points will pass to the next rounds. Final
Rounds The final three rounds will take place according to the rules outlined below.
5. Once a participant has been given a word to spell by the pronouncer, they have to
pronounce the word before and after spelling it. If they fail to do so, they are eliminated.
6. The participant may ask the pronouncer to say the word again. The participant can ask
for a maximum of three repetitions.
7. Having started to spell the word, a participant may stop and start over. In retracing their
steps, however, there can be no change of letters, or their sequence, from those first
 pronounced. If the letters or their sequences are changed in the respelling, the
participant will be eliminated.
