Setiap orang tentunya punya versi tersendiri bila ditanya tentang apa film terbaik yang pernah

ditontonnya. Kali ini, American Film Institute menurunkan film-film terbaik sepanjang sejarah
dalam versi mereka dalam tajuk “AFI’s 10 Top 10”.

Pilihan AFI ini didasarkan kepada pilihan seribu lima ratus juri dari kalangan artis, kritikus dan
sejarahwan. Film-film yang masuk nominasi dikelompokkan dalam sepuluh kategori, mulai dari
film animasi hingga film epic.

Namanya juga film-film terbaik sepanjang masa, tentunya semua film, yang dari jaman jadul
sampai sekarang masuk hitungan. Masuk akal jadinya, jika film To Kill o Mockingbird produksi
tahun 1962 yang menjadi pemenang untuk genre Courtroom Drama, kurang dikenal anak jaman
sekarang. Padahal film ini mengalahkan Kramer Vs. Kramer (1979) dan A Few Good Men
(1992) yang lebih populer.

Lihat pula, misalnya The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of Ring (2001), yang harus puas
bertengger di posisi dua, di bawah The Wizard of Oz (1939) untuk genre fantasi. Sementara itu
film legendaris The Godfather (1972) bertahta di kursi nomor 1 genre gangster dan sekuelnya
The Godfather Part II (1974) di urutan ketiga, hanya dikalahkan oleh Goodfellas (1990)

Dari seluruh film pilihan, sutradara Alfred Hitchcock menempatkan empat filmnya di dalam
