Definition

it is a kind of text that used to describe how or why things happen. In explanation text, includes a
sequence of events ( how ) and provides reasons for a process or phenomenon ( why )

Example :

 Earthquakes
 The motorcycle
 the doll

Types of Explanation Texts :

Catogarized according to the type of process they describe :

1. sequential explanation : explanations that describe natural and non natural

phenomena, example : life cycles
2. cause and effect explanation : that links cause and effect in explaining
how and why an event occurred
example : volcanoes

Structure of An Explanation Text :

 general statement
starting the phenomenon issues which are to be explained
 sequence of explanation
the series of steps which explain the phenomena
 closing
it is the conclusion of the text
 social function :
it is used to describe how or why a certain phenomenon happens

linguistic features :
 used a action verbs like fall, grow
 use of present tense like are, is
 use passive voice
 connection conjuction like and, but
 focuses on general group rather than specific

Pengertian

adalah salah satu macam teks untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana atau mengapa suatu hal
terjadi. Termasuk urutan peristiwa dan alasan mengapa terjadi suatu peristiwa itu.

Contoh :
 gempa bumi
 sepeda motor
 boneka

Macam-macam teks eksplanasi

Didasarkan pada penjelasa suatu hal terjadi :

1. eksplanasi contoh : yaitu menjelaskan tentang kejadian alam ataupun bukan. Contoh :
alur kehidupan
 2. eksplanasi sebab akibat : menjelaskan sebab aibat suatu fenomena terjadi . contoh :
gunung merapi

 pengertian umum : menjelaskan fenomena secara umum
 urutan peristiwa : menjelaskan urutan peristiwa yang terjadi
 penutup : ada kesimpulan dari teks tersebut

tujuan :
untuk mendeskripsikan suatu fenomena terjadi

kaidah kebahasaan :
 menggunakan kata kerja aksi seperti jatuh, tumbuh
 menggunakan present tense
 menggunakan passive voice
 menggunakan kata hubung seperti dan, tapi
 fokus kepada hal umum dibanding khusus
