SIMPLE PAST TENSE

Kompetensi Dasar :
3.10 Menerapkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan teks interaksi
transaksional lisan dan tulis yang melibatkan tindakan memberi dan meminta informasi
terkait keadaan/ tindakan/ kegiatan/ kejadian yang dilakukan/terjadi, rutin maupun tidak
rutin, atau menjadi kebenaran umum di waktu lampau, sesuai dengan konteks
penggunaannya. (Perhatikan unsur kebahasaan simple past tense)

4.10 Menyusun teks interaksi transaksional lisan dan tulis sangat pendek dan
sederhana yang melibatkan tindakan memberi dan meminta informasi terkait keadaan/
tindakan/kegiatan/ kejadian yang dilakukan/terjadi, rutin maupun tidak rutin, atau
menjadi kebenaran umum di waktu lampau, dengan memperhatikan fungsi sosial,
struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan yang benar dan sesuai konteks

Simple past tense merupakan salah satu tenses atau bentuk waktu dalam
Bahasa Inggris yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan aktifitas atau kegiatan di masa
lampau dan telah lewat. Tenses ini juga digunakan untuk mengekspresikan kegiatan
yang menjadi kebiasaan di masa yang telah lampau.
 Formula dari Simple Past Tense sebagai berikut:

Kalimat Affirmatif

S + was/were + adj/adverb/noun + …

Kalimat Negatif

S + was/were + not + adj/adverb/noun + …

Kalimat Interogatif/pertanyaan

Was/were + S adj/adverb/noun + …?

Example:
1.   (+) Mr. Mustofa was sick yesterday.
(-) Mr. Mustofa was not sick yesterday.
(?) Was Mr. Mustofa sick yesterday? Yes, he is. No. He is not(isn’t)

2.   (+) They were angry.

(-) They were not angry.
(?) Were they angry? Yes, they were. No, they were not(weren’t)

Catatan :

To be “was” digunakan untuk subjek “I, he, she, it”.

To be “Were digunakan untuk subjek “You, they, we”.
Untuk membuat kalimat menyangkal/negatif dan pertanyaan maka kata bantu atau to be
di atas digunakan.

Keterangan :
S        : Subject
V2      : Kata kerja bentuk kedua(past)
V1      : Kata kerja bentuk pertama(infinitive)
O       : Objek
Adj     : Adjective(kata sifat)
Adv    : Adverb(Kata Keterangan)
 Table of regular and irregular verbs

Example:
1.   (+) Mrs. Hani went to Ujung Negoro Beach last week.
(-)  Mrs. Hani didn’t go  to Ujung Negoro Beach last week.
(?) Did Mrs. Hani go to Ujung Negoro Beash last week? Yes, she did.      No, she did
not(didn’t).

2.   (+) They studied English last night.

(-) They didn’t study English last night.
(?) Did they study English last night? Yes, They did. No they did not
     
Catatan :
Untuk membentuk kalimat negatif maka kata bantuk Did + not digunakan dan untuk
membentuk kalimat tanya Did diletakkan di depan kalimat.

Kata Kerja(Verb) yang digunakan dalam Past tense adalah Kata Kerja bentuk
kedua(past). Kata kerja dibagi menjadi dua yaitu Regular verbs dan Irregular verbs.

Regular Verbs(Kata kerja beraturan) ditambah akhiran –ed

Contoh:
Play menjadi played
Stop menjadi stopped
Watch menjadi watched
dll.

Irregular Verbs(kata kerja tak beraturan) yaitu kata kerja yang tidak memakai kaidah
tambahan -ed, akan tetapi bentuknya tak tentu atau berubah-ubah.
Contoh:
Sing menjadi sang
Go menjadi went
Cut masih utuh cut
dll.

Kata Keterangan waktu(Aderb of time) yang digunakan biasanya :
