Pengertian, Tujuan, dan Ciri-ciri Descriptive Text

Descriptive Text adalah bentuk teks yang berisi gambaran tentang suatu objek.
Dalam bahasa Inggrisnya, dipahami bahwa Descriptive Text is a text that contain
the description of an object, which is an animal, place, people, thing, etc.
Tujuan dari Descriptive Text adalah mendeskripsikan atau menggambarkan suatu
objek khusus. Communicative purpose of descriptive text is to describe particular
participant.
Struktur Descriptive Text
▪ Identification (identifikasi): gambaran umum tentang suatu topik.
Bagian ini biasanya ada di paragraf awal. Struktur descriptive text ini
bertujuan untuk menjabarkan apa yang akan dibicarakan di paragraf
tersebut. Makanya baru berupa informasi general. Misalnya contoh
descriptive text tentang tempat. Bagian identification bisa diisi tentang di
mana letak tempat tersebut, berada di negara apa, atau daerah apa. Tapi
perlu diingat ya bagian ini penjelasanya belum spesifik, hanya pengenalan
dengan tempat tersebut. Penjelasannya cuma informasi umum.
▪ Description (deskripsi): penjelasan berisi ciri-ciri khusus yang dimiliki benda,
tempat, atau orang yang dideskripsikan. Di bagian ini baru spesifik
pembahasannya. Misal deskripsi gunung, bisa dibahas tentang
ketinggiannya, jaraknya hingga temperatur saat berada di situ. Bisa juga
ditambahkan informasi seperti aktivitas apa aja yang bisa dilakukan di situ.
Language Features Descriptive Text
• Specific participant: memiliki objek tertentu, tidak bersifat umum dan unik
(hanya ada satu). Misalnya: Uncle Jack, Borobudur Temple.
• Penggunaan adjective (kata sifat) untuk memperjelas noun (kata benda).
Misalnya: a handsome man, a beautiful woman.
• Penggunaan simple present tense: Pola kalimat yang digunakan adalah
simple present karena menceritakan fakta dari objek yang dideskripsikan.
• Action verbs: terdapat kata kerja yang menunjukkan sebuah kegiatan
(aktivitasnya dapat dilihat). Misalnya: run, walk, cut, etc.
Contoh descriptive text tentang hewan

The koala is an iconic Australian animal. Often called the koala “bear,” this
tree-climbing animal is a marsupial—a mammal with a pouch for the development
of offspring.
Though koalas look fuzzy, their hair is more like the coarse wool of a sheep.
They have two opposing thumbs on their hands, and both their feet and hands
have rough pads and claws to grab onto branches. They have two toes, fused
together, on their feet, which they use to comb their fur.

Contoh descriptive text tentang manusia

Debby Putri is a model from Surabaya. Now she is a student of State Senior
High School 71 Surabaya. Debby is the first daughter of Mr. Fajar Putti and Mrs.
Ana Karaeng. Debby became a famous model when she won the competition of
Teenage Model 2005 and YTC Jrang-Jreng 2004.
Debby is brown-skinned. She is tall and slender. She is 17 years old. Debby
has wavy, long, black hair, a pointed nose and rather big ears. Her face is oval
and her cheeks are dimpled when she smiles.
Debby is an attractive girl in her blue jeans. She likes wearing a cotton jacket
and a T-shirt. She always wants to feel relaxed. She is neat and well-dressed.
Debby is cheerful and friendly girl. Everybody likes her because she is a
humorous and creative girl. She gets on well with other people and she never
forces her opinions on others. But sometimes Debby is short-tempered when she
loses her personal things.
Her hobbies are cooking Japanese food, shopping and singing. Debby has a
beautiful voice and her favorite singer is Ruth Sahanaya.

Dad said he found Ross near our house, crying looking for his mom. But Dad can’t see
her, so Dad decides to bring him home and give him some comfort.

He was born on August 19th, 1969, in Massachusetts, U.S. Perry started his career on
television show in 1979.

Now, it’s been a year since Ross come to our family. His small body has grown up into a
size of a football ball. Ross is a good dog, and we love him so much.

Then, he began his popularity when he plays a main role on a sitcom called “Friends”. His
character Chandler Bing is very iconic. The jokes that he tells on the show is hilarious and
always remembered by the fans.
Ross is a good eater. He always finished everything we gave him.

Matthew Perry is a well-known actor and comedian.

Ross is a small puppy. His size is as big as the palm of my hand. Ross is so fragile.
Sometimes I afraid I will hurt him if I want to take him up.

Not only that, but he also stars in some films, such as “The Whole Nine Yards” and “17
Again” Recently, Perry and his “Friends” co-stars reunited again and appeared on “Friends
Reunion”.
