Indeks harga disebut juga dengan tingkat harga.
Indeks harga digunakan sebagai ukuran yang
menunjukkan berbagai perubahan yang terjadi
pada harga dari waktu ke waktu. Dengan kata
lain, definisi indeks harga adalah perbandingan
antara harga rata-rata suatu barang dalam
tahun berjalan dengan harga rata-rata untuk
tahun dasar.
