STRATEGI MENJAWAB SOAL REPORT TEXT

Report Text adalah teks bahasa Inggris yang menghadirkan informasi tentang sesuatu seperti
alam, hewan, tumbuhan, hasil karya manusia, dan fenomena sosial dengan apa adanya. Informasi
yang dihadirkan dalam Report Text adalah hasil dari observasi dan analisis secara sistematis.

Tujuan Komunikatif Report Text

Tujuan komunikatif dari Report Text adalah menyampaikan informasi tentang sesuatu (to report
something/ to give general information about), mendeskripsikan (to describe general or
common characteristic of…), dan menjelaskan (to explain something in general) secara umum
tentang gejala alami, lingkungan, benda buatan manusia, atau gejala-gejala sosial.

Ciri-ciri Report Text:

A. Ciri Generic structure:
Dalam Report Text, terdapat struktur teks yang terdiri dari dua bagian, yaitu:
1. Ada General Clasification
Pada bagian general clasification (klasifikasi umum) berisi pengenalan fenomena/ benda
yang akan dibicarakan dengan menyertakan pernyataan umum yang menerangkan
subjek laporan, keterangan, dan klasifikasi-nya.
2. Ada Description
Pada bagian Description (gambaran) terdiri dari gambaran dari fenomena/ benda yang
didiskusikan dari bagian ke bagiannya, kebiasaan atau tingkah laku untuk benda hidup,
ataupun kegunaannya untuk benda secara detail.
B. Ciri Kebahasaan Report Text
Dalam sebuah Report Text terdapat beberapa ciri-ciri kebahasaan (language features)
seperti berikut ini:
 Menggunakan general nouns (kata-kata benda umum), seperti ‘Reptiles in
Comodo Insland’, dsb.
 Menggunakan relating verbs (am, is, are) untuk menjelaskan ciri, misalnya
reptiles are scaly animals (ciri ini berlaku untuk semua reptilia), dsb.
 Menggunakan action verbs dalam mejelaskan perilaku, misalnya lizards cannot
fly, dsb.
 Menggunakan Present Tense untuk menyatakan suatu yang umum, misalnya
Komodo dragons usually weight more than 160 kg, dsb.
 Mengguanakan istilah teknis/ ilmiah, misalnya water contains oxygen and
hydrogen, dsb.

The Yogya Kembali Monument is located in Yogyakarta. It is three kilometres north of the Yogya city
centre in the Jongkang village of the Sleman Regency. The monument was inaugurated on June 29th,
1985 to commemorate the historic Indonesian struggle for independence. Yogya Kembali means Yogya
Returns, as a reminder of the returning of the Indonesian Republic Government.
There are two sections of the Yogya Kembali Monument. The first section of the Cureng Aircraft is on
the eastern gate, while the other section of Guntai Aircraft stands closer to the western entrance of the
monument. The Monument has two wheeled-machine guns which can be seen from a podium towards the
eastern and the western side. In the southern end of the yard, there is a wall engraved with 420 names of
freedom fighters who lost their lives during a great struggle, from December 19th, 1948 to June 29th,
1949. A poem by Chairil Anwar, titled Karawang Bekasi, is written on one side of the wall dedicated to
these unknown patriots.
The Yogya Kembali Monument is surrounded by fish ponds. It is divided into four alleys which lead to
the main building. The main building consists of different floors displaying a wide range of collections
during and after the war times. It shows dioramas, carved reliefs or collection of clothes and weapons.
