The Definition of Giving Instruction

Giving instruction is an expression that used to give or ask somebody to do something
that what we want. Giving instruction same with imperative sentence.
Tujuan giving instruction adalah untuk memberikan anjuran atau suruhan kepada
seseorang yang diajak lawan bicara. Sebenarnya giving the instruction itu sama halnya
dengan the imperative, untuk rumus dan tata cara pembuatanya juga sama. Untuk
menambah jelas dari rumus yang disebutkan, mari kita perhatikannya dibawah ini.
1. Verbal instruction
Rumus
Verb 1 + object!
Contoh:
 Turn on the stove!
(hidupkanlah kompor!)
 Study more seriously if you want to not to miss the examination
(belajarlah yang lebih serius apabila kamu ingin tidak ketinggalan ujiannya!)
 Drive the car slowly, it is still raining hard!
(kendarailah mobilnya dengan pelan-pelan, ini masih hujan lebat!)
 Please, play in the inside, there are many thunders!
(tolong, bermainlah didalam, ada banyak badai!)
 Sweep the floor now because the guest will come here ten minutes later!
(sapulah lantai sekarang karena para tamu akan datang sepuluh menit lagi!)
 Brush your teeth, before going to bed and after having eating!
(sikatlah gigimu sebelum tifur dan setelah makan!)
 Please call me, it is urgent!
(tolong hubungi aku, ini sangat penting!)
 Listen to your teacher and write down the point of his explanation!
(dengarkanlah gurumu dan tulislah poin penjelasannya!)
 Tidy your toys after playing them!
(rapikanlah mainan-mainanmu setelah memainkannya!)
 Wash the clothes as soon as you can, it is difficult to get the sun light !
(cucilah baju-bajumu segera mungkin kamu bisa. Sangat susah untuk
mendapatkan sinar matahari!)
  Buy me a kilo of egg, I would like to make a birthday cake for tomorrow!
(belikanlah aku satu kilo telur, aku hendak membuat sebuah kue ulang tahun
untuk esok hari!)
2. Nominal instruction

Be + adjective/noun/adverb !
Contoh
 Be quickly
(lebih cepatlah!)
 Be louder when giving the explanation!
(lebih keraslah saat memberikan penjelasan!)
 Be closer, I can not see the words!
(lebih dekatlah, saya tidak bisa melihat huruf-huruf!)
 Be more seriously when you train dancing !
(lebih seriuslah saat kamu berlatih menari!)
 Be brave, we believe that you can do it!
(beranilah, kami yakin bahwa kamu dapat melakukannya!)
 Be polite in front of someone who has elder age than you!
(sopanlah didepan seseorang yang mempunyai umur lebih tua dari pada
kamu!)
 Be calm, I am still fixing it!
(tenanglah, aku sedang memperbaikinya!)
 Be careful, the road is slippery !
(berhati-hatilah, jalanan sangat licin!)
 Be quite, the examination is running now!
(tolong diam, ujian sedang berlangsung sekarang!)
 Be here, there has been full of the people!
(disinilah, disana sudah penuh dengan orang-orang!)
 Be strong when you face the problem!
(kuatlah saat kamu mengahadapi masalah!)
Contoh Dialog Giving Instructions and Response

1. Percakapan bahasa Inggris memberi instruksi bisa dilakukan dengan sangat

sederhana perhatikan cara seorang ayah memberi tahu bagaimana cara menyiapkan
ujian.

2. Percakapan dibawah ini cukup panjang dan menunjukkan cara memberi instruksi
dalam bahasa Inggris. Perhatikan kakalimat-kalimat imperative yang digunakan dalam
memberi instruksi (giving instruction).

Rani: You know, I’m thinking about designing a website for our company.
Bidu: You’re right but we have no one who has got good command of codding and
webbing.
Rani: That doesn’t matter. We can learn it. Let me read the instruction to make a
website. First of all, login to home page. Click on the ink in the navigation panel.
Then, click the ‘Sign Up Now’. Now create your Website.
Bidu: Wow. That’s easy. I think we can do it.

1) Command
There are some giving instruction in command form that usually we use in the dialy
life, those are:

 Direct/Impolite:

"Go!"
"Get that for me."
"Stop!"
"Put that away."

 Indirect:

"Could you go?"

"Could/would you get that for me?"
"Could you stop that?"
"Could you put that away (for me)?"
 Polite/Positive:

"Go, please."
"Get that for me please."
"Stop, please."/"Please, stop."
"Put that away, please."

Negative:
When we want to tell someone not to do something, we simply add "do not" or the
shorter form "don't" before the verb. This shorter form is much more common.
"Don't (do not) go."
"Don't get that."
"Don't/Never say that!"

Contoh Ungkapan Giving Instruction

Untuk ungkapannya biasanya menggunakan rumus dasar imperative sentence atau
kalimat perintah yang bernada positif.
Perhatikan contoh kalimat perintah atau imperative sentence dibawah ini:
• pill the fruit and cut into the cube then add some honey
(Kupaslah buhnya dan potonglah kotak kotak lalu tambahkan madu)
• wash the spinach then boil for 2 minutes
(Cucilah bayam lalu rebuslah selama 2 menit)
Didalam memberikan sebuah perintah hendaknya kita mengucapkan dengan nada
yang sopan dan dengan menggunakan tambahan kata berupa “please”, dimana kata
simple ini mampu mempertegas namun bernada sopan. Letak dari kata “please”, bisa
berada diawal kalimat, ataupun dibelakang kalimat dengan menyertakan tanda baca
seru (!). Perhatikan contoh dibawah ini:
• Please , turn on the television !
(Tolonglah, hidupkan televisisnya)
• Give me some water, please !
(Berilah aku air, tolong)
Memberi sebuah perintah yang secara sistematis, harus menggunakan kata –kata
berikut ini, seperti:
• first ..
• second..
• third…
• then …
• next…
• after that …
• finally ..
Yang perlu diperhatikan bahwa memberi sebuah perintah bukanlah hak yang salah,
namun tugas kita setelah seseorang melakukan apa yang harapkan hendaknya kita
mengatakan ucapan “thank you”. Hal tersebut bertujuan untuk menghargai mereka
yang telah bersedia melakukan apa yang kita harapkan..Perhatikan contoh contoh
instruksi berikut ini :

How to make a piggy banks from the cans
1. first of all, find a can
2. second, wash it and clean up the empty can
3. third, make a slot (long thin hole) on the upper side by using a screw or nail and a
hammer. If you can has a thin layer, you may use a sharp knife
4. Then, to make a pretty bank, wrap it with coloured paper or else you can paint it
5. finally, a piggy bank has finished
