What is Descriptive Text?

Descriptive Text is a text that contain the description of an object, which is an animal, place,
people, thing, etc.

Descriptive Text adalah bentuk teks yang berisi gambaran tentang suatu objek seperti
binatang, tempat, orang, benda, dll.

Biasanya descriptive text ditandai dengan penggunaan easy tense dan fokus pada satu objek
secara spesifik. Objek tersebut kemudian dibahas kembali secara lebih detail dalam teks
deskriptif tersebut.

Purpose of Descriptive Text

 To describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

Untuk menggambarkan dan mengungkapkan orang, tempat, atau benda tertentu.

 To make the reader can imagine as if what is being told is really real.

 Agar pembaca dapat membayangkan seolah-olah apa yang diceritakan benar-benar

nyata.

Generic Structure of Descriptive Text ( Struktur Teks Deskripsi)

 Identification
Is an introduction, in the form of a general description of a topic. This part introduce
where or who the subject being described is Such as : name, place, time, …

Identification merupakan pendahuluan, berupa gambaran umum suatu topik. Bagian ini
memperkenalkan dimana atau siapa subjek yang sedang dideskripsikan . Seperti : nama,
tempat, waktu,…

 Description
 Is to contain special characteristics possessed objects, places, or people described. In
detail information, For example traits, physical features, and other things that are written
specifically.

Description memuat ciri-ciri khusus yang dimiliki benda, tempat, atau orang yang
dideskripsikan.Serta Informasi rinci ,Misalnya sifat, ciri fisik, dan hal-hal lain yang
ditulis secara khusus.

 Conclusion
in this section there may or may not, because this will not affect the shape and function
of the descriptive text itself

Pada bagian ini boleh ada atau tidak, karena hal ini tidak akan mempengaruhi bentuk
dan fungsi dari teks deskripsi itu sendiri.

Characteristics Of Descriptive Text ( Ciri-Ciri Teks Deskripsi)

1. uses verb attributes, such as be (am, is, are)

Verb yang digunakan yaitu attribute verb, seperti be (am, is, are)

2. uses Simple Present Tense.(Menggunakan Simple Present Tense)

Simple present tense artinya menggunakan kata kerja dasar atau bentuk pertama (verb 1)
serta menggunakan kata kerja yang dapat menunjukkan kepemilikan atau keadaan sebuah
objek. Descriptive text menggunakan simple present tense karena descriptive text
menceritakan sebuah fakta dari objek yang dideskripsikan

3. focuses on that one object.

4. uses adjectives or adjectivese.

Biasanya kata sifat digunakan untuk memperjelas kata benda . example : a beautiful
beach, a handsome man, the famous place in jepara

5. uses interesting language.

6. Descriptive text uses actions verbs.

George

(Identification)

I have to pick up someone today at the airport. He is from Australia. His name is George. I never
meet him before and I do not have his picture. So, I prepare a small board and write his name. I
will bring that at the airport. I hope George will find me.

(Description)

Before his flight, he informed that he wore black shirt, blue jeans, and red shoes. He also brought
a big orange bag. What I had known from him is that he has 190 cm tall, thin body, his hair is
red, and he has thick mustache.

2. Descriptive Text an Animal

Turtle

(Identification)

I have a little Brazilian turtle. I got it when I was fishing at the river near my home. Normally,
there is no that kind of turtle at that river. I guess the turtle was belonged to somebody before it
escaped. That was my lucky day because I found it.

(Description)

Looking at the size of the turtle, the age is around a year. The colour is still yellowish green.
Baby Brazilian turtle has green colour and the colour will slowly change along its growth. That
turtle is a kind of water turtle but sometimes it stays at dry place for a while. Thus, this turtle
which is known as red-eared slider is a semiaquatic turtle. A give it the name Kura-kura. I keep it
at my pond and it seems like happy living there with my fish. Sometimes it is swimming around
but sometimes it does not move at all on the stone in the middle of the pond. I don’t really
understand the right way to take care of turtle. As long as it wants to eat, I think it will survive.

Pink Beach

Pink Beach or Pantai Merah Muda is one of the beaches in Komodo island, East Nusa Tenggara.
The beach is called Pink Beach because the sand beach is pink. The pink color of its beach is a
mixture of white sand beach colors mixed with crushed coral, shells, calcium carbonate from
marine invertebrates that are very small, and also Foraminifera, microscopic amoeba that has a
red body shell.

At Pink Beach, there are so many marine organisms. No fewer than 1,000 species of fish,
260 species of coral, and 70 species of sponge can be found here. Having so much marine life,
this place is a proper spot for snorkeling and diving for sea sports lovers.

Handphone

My favorite thing is my handphone. It was actually my Dad’s handphone. After he bought a new
one, he gave it to me.

(Description)

The brand is Samsung Galaxy A51. The display size is 6.5 inches. The color of my handphone
is black. I use it for connecting with my friends, listening to music and also learning new
languages. I have installed some language learning applications in my handphone. I also love
taking pictures with it. The result is very sharp and bright. This thing is very useful for me.
